Helen Skelton to host Last Night of the Proms at castle
Helen Skelton is set to host a special 'last night of the proms' concert at Carlisle Castle in July.
The UK Proms in the Park tour 2025 is set to arrive in Carlisle for two nights at Carlisle Castle and will feature the UK dance anthems orchestra and the UK proms orchestra on July 4 and 5.
The last night of the proms is one of the most iconic classical music concerts in the world and features some of the finest classical music in the world when it is held at the Royal Albert Hall in September.
The UK proms weekend kicks off in Carlisle with the 30-piece dance anthems orchestra who will take the audience on a 'pulsating journey' through the past four decades of classic dance tunes with soloists and dancers.
On Saturday, July 5, Carlisle Castle will be the venue for a night full of pomp and circumstance as the UK proms orchestra and a host of special guests take the audience on a journey through some of the most loved classical pieces from TV, film and theatre, featuring all the classics from the Last Night of the Proms.

The event is set to play host to three bars and street food will be on offer from the award-winning Digbeth Dining Club.

UK Proms Artistic Director and co-founder, Holly Teague commented: 'We are so excited to be joined by such talented presenters and artists this year. Carlisle Castle was such a special concert for us last year, and this year we've tweaked and tuned the programmes for both evenings to give you more of everything.
'More music, more singing, more dancing, more fun.
'We are so looking forward to taking our fabulous orchestra on tour, led by conductors David Danford and Joe Davies.'

TV star thanks Cumbrian M&S staff for help with last minute holiday wardrobe
CUMBRIAN TV personality Helen Skelton has taken to social media to thank staff at a Cumbrian Marks and Spencer store - as she showed off her holiday wardrobe purchased in the store 'hours before' boarding a plane to Spain. The popular former Blue Peter and Strictly Come Dancing Star praised the assistants at the Carlisle Marks and Spencer store, for distracting her children whilst she chose outfits for a recent group holiday. In the post on June, 3 Helen said: "Thank you to the ladies in the Carlisle Marks and Spencer who distracted my gang from wrestling the mannequins while I tried to find 'appropriate' length shorts hours before boarding a plane with 30 of whom I hardly knew (until know). "Even got a bikini that is waterslide proof." Helen shared a series of stunning pictures on the social media site Instagram saying she had 'promised' the staff she would share some pictures with fans.

Helen Skelton reveals she feels 'lucky' to be with Gethin Jones on Morning Live
Cumbria's Helen Skelton has revealed the importance of working with a crew that 'really clicks'. Currently presenting the BBC's flagship morning programme, This Morning, Helen has been a mainstay on our screens for some time. "Michelle and I used to flat share back in London so people say, 'You've got a natural chemistry', but we have known each other since we were in our twenties, starting out in telly. "If you have to go to work and you like what you do and you do it with people that are like an extension of your family, then you're very lucky and I definitely feel like that at Morning Live," she adds. "That's always what's been instilled in me, and that's how I approach my mum space. I hate to admit it, but the older I get, the more I realise [my mum] knows what she's on about."

Iconic steam locomotive pictured in Carlisle for anniversary special
A steam locomotive was pictured at Carlisle Station on Saturday as part of the 150th anniversary of the iconic Settle to Carlisle line. The Pepperclass A1 steam locomotive 60163 – Tornado was seen arriving at Carlisle station around 1pm on Saturday, May 31. The locomotive was hauling The West Yorkshireman excursion which ran from Bradford Forster Square to Carlisle via the Settle and Carlisle line. The journey over the Settle-Carlisle line featured on Channel 5's 'The World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys' programme. The Tornado was greeted by crowds at Carlisle Station (Image: Paul Grindley) The route crosses viaducts, travels through valleys, and passes by the stunning Yorkshire Three Peaks — Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside in one of the UK's most picturesque rail journeys. The route was celebrating 150 years of the Settle to Carlisle line as well as the 200th anniversary of the railway and the city of Bradford in West Yorkshire being the city of culture for 2025. The Tornado locomotive was completed in 2008 to an original design by Arthur Peppercorn. It is the first new build British mainline steam locomotive since 1960, and the only Peppercorn Class A1 in existence after the original batch were scrapped. In 2017, the Tornado became the first steam locomotive to officially reach 100 mph on British tracks in more than 50 years.
