Dame Joanna Lumley's brutal response as she opens up about retirement
Dame Joanna Lumley is one of the greats of TV and film, with a career spanning decades. The actress is known as a femme-fatale as well as being a comedian and stage thespian, and even as she approaches 80 she has no plans of stopping yet.
The beloved model was born in 1946 in India back when it was under British control, but moved back to the UK as a young girl and went straight to boarding school. Shockingly, she was turned down by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, but soon found her way into acting regardless.
Her first big role was a few lines as a Bond girl in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but she soon found plenty of work in popular TV shows such as Coronation Street, Steptoe and Son, and Are You Being Served?, before finding her breakout role as Purdey in The New Avengers.
The iconic star spoke at the SANDS International Film Festival of St Andrews in Scotland on April 26, and said that despite having made a huge mark on the industry she's by no means ready to hang her hat up yet.
'I'll be here when I'm 90 - as long as I can speak. When I was 16 and told the careers officer at my convent school that I wanted to go into acting, he told me that the only jobs open to me in film would be as a continuity or make-up girl,' she said, according to the Daily Mail.
Joanna - who recently shared what she'd 'ban' among teens, added: 'In the past women like me would have been sidelined at 38 but now there are lead parts for people in their 50s and big parts for those in their 70s.'
While the Amandaland star is a huge success, she also spoke about the struggles she's been through to get to this point - particularly after becoming a single mum aged just 21.
'I've been skint – I had no money, and we lived off Marmite sandwiches for months, and I burnt furniture to keep us warm,' she said, adding: 'But having a son to look after gave me such motivation to work, and it wasn't so bad – it made me tough, and I learnt resilience.'
The star has just secured her next major role in the Netflix hit show Wednesday, playing the main character's grandmother Hester Frump. Alongside gushing over all the fun wigs she gets to play as the creepy character, Joanna also described what she's truly like behind the scenes.
The star explained that starting out as a model taught her to be thrifty and think on her feet, describing how back in the day models were often expected to do their own hair, makeup and nails.
And now - unlike many celebrities and their diva antics - the longtime vegetarian only has one demand while working around the world.
"The only thing I put on my rider when travelling is that I don't eat meat or fish in case I get an upset tummy,' she revealed. 'So if I am presented with meat when I visit somewhere I just say, 'Oh it is against my religion.''

Celebrity SAS star Rebecca Loos' affair with David Beckham explained
Rebecca Loos is set to appear on Celebrity SAS but her rise to fame came on the back of her alleged affair with David Beckham so here we take a look at the affair scandal in detail Back in 2004, Rebecca Loos was the most sought after person in the UK after she revealed that she'd had an alleged affair with none other than David Beckham. At the time, both David and Victoria Beckham denied her allegations but the former personal assistant stood her ground and exposed their alleged four-month affair to the press, for the entire world to read. Now, the 48 year old mum of two is set to appear on Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins and yet again her alleged affair with the former England footballer has become a subject of discussion once again. Rebecca will join Louie Spence, X Factor star Lucy Spraggan and Adebayo 'The Beast' Akinfenwa for the military inspired reality TV show. It comes after Cat Deeley found moving back to the UK 'really hard' before split from Patrick Kielty. At the time, Rebecca told Sky that David was an "amazing lover" and "they couldn't keep their hands off each other." She explained: "We were just locked into each other all night, conversation-wise, other people noticed… we just connected. I think the chemistry between David and me was so strong… people were aware and they weren't very happy." She added: "He knows how to please. He's not afraid of a woman's body. He seems to know what he's doing" Rebecca faced backlash for selling her story but in 2021 the reality TV star reflected on why she made that decision that caused a huge media storm. She explained to Closer: "I just felt the need to be truthful. Whether you've done something that's right or wrong, it was kind of just eating me up. I was living a lie and keeping secrets." She continued: "Max Clifford [former celebrity agent] said to me he'd negotiate an exclusive with the newspaper and that if I was willing to tell absolutely all the juicy details, then I would get up to five or six hundred thousand pounds. Ridiculous money." According to reports she told the Daily Mail: "People said I was mad. Who was this guy? I hardly knew him, what on earth was I doing? But look at everything I have now, I am so happy. I have no regrets, I am so happy with my life now." She reportedly said: "But many people are so afraid of change. Change is good, change is how you learn, people should just f**king go for it. I like the way my life has taken me. If I hadn't been famous, I would not have been invited on the TV show where I met my husband, Sven and had my lovely boys. I would not have had the life I have now." Rebecca met her husband Sven Christjar Skaiaa, who is a medic, during filming 71 Degrees North. The couple married in 2012 and share two children together. The family now live in Norway and she works as a youga teacher while not on TV. In a statement released at the time, David said: "During the past few months, I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts." Victoria had remained silent in 2004 but three years later she admitted: "I'm not going to lie. It was a really tough time. No one said marriage was going to be easy. Yes, there have been bumps along the road. But the fact is we've come out of everything we've been through stronger and happier."

Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson gives update on show's future after Channel 4 axe
Naked Attraction first graced our screens back in 2016 and quickly became a fan favourite before wrapping up last year Naked Attraction star Anna Richardson has given an update on the show's future after a year off air. The Channel 4 programmes sees every day people take their kit off in a bid to find love. One person is met with several naked figures and have to choose who they want to go on a date with without seeing their faces or even chatting first. The controversial programme first landed on our screens back in 2016 but came to an end last year. 65 episodes aired across seven series before it ended in March of last year. Many fans have been hoping that the show is just taking a break and that it will actually return at some point. Anna has spoken to the Daily Mail where she said she also hopes that Naked Attraction will come back to our screens once again. She said: "I am desperate for it to come back. "I want a campaign that basically says 'Bring back Naked Attraction'. It is wildly popular. People absolutely love it. It is funny. It's about acceptance. "And I think at the moment, in a world where we're all actually a bit p***ed off and we feel ground down in this country, you know, there's a huge amount of division and anger. I think Naked Attraction brings a bit of levity. "So the fact is, the truth is, I have no idea whether it's coming back. I really hope so, because it's a fun show to do, and it does very well, but I have no idea about about the politics of whether it is or not, but let's keep our fingers crossed." Viewers were shocked when the show first aired nine years ago. Anna helps the single person choose who they want to date while they all stand in different coloured pods. Those standing in the pods reveal a different part of their body during each round while the single person sends one person home each time. At the end they finally reveal their faces while the single person strips off as well. A final person is then chosen as they pop their clothes back on and head out on a date together. Anna said that she believes that Naked Attraction has paved the way for other controversial dating shows. She said that reaction was "crazy", as she explained: "Everybody had a breakdown when Naked Attraction was announced. And, you know, the press went absolutely crazy... 'this is a new low for, you know, new low and moral standards on British television.' "And of course, we were trailblazers, so now we've paved the way to things being more open and talked about and accepting. "

Prince Harry responds to claims he 'struck Prince Andrew and bloodied his nose'
Prince Harry had addressed claims he punched Prince Andrew in the face at a family gathering in 2013 Prince Harry has refuted allegations that he left Prince Andrew with a "bloody nose" during a heated confrontation, as claimed in a explosive new book. The Duke of Sussex stands accused of striking the Duke of York at a family event in 2013 after calling him a "coward" in author Andrew Lownie's latest work Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. Relations are said to have erupted between the Royal duo after Harry learned of "something Andrew said" behind his back, he writes, noting that the bond between the pair has remained strained for over a decade following the purported incident. In a fresh excerpt from the publication, Mr Lownie states: "At a family gathering in 2013, Harry and Andrew had got into a heated argument, and punches were thrown over something Andrew said behind Harry's back." In the book, which is being serialised by the Daily Mail, he continued: "According to a source close to both men, Harry told him he was a coward not to say it to his face. "Harry got the better of Andrew by all accounts, leaving him with a bloody nose before the fight was broken up," reports the Mirror. The writer also characterised Prince Andrew's rapport with both his nephews Harry and William as "problematic", with Andrew subsequently alleged to have informed the Duke of Sussex that his union with Meghan Markle would "not last more than a month". Harry's representatives have dismissed both allegations featured in the new publication. In a statement to People magazine, a member of the Duke's staff said: "I can confirm neither of those things are true. Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight. "Nor did Prince Andrew ever make those comments about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry." The book also claims that Prince William has been operating behind the scenes to back Andrew's removal from the Royal Lodge, the £31 million Windsor estate where the Duke of York resides with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. This comes after numerous reported efforts by King Charles to have his brother ejected from the 31-bedroom mansion, with the Duke of York seemingly determined to remain. Photographs from earlier this year revealed the property looking notably deteriorated, with black mould, dampness, and cracked paintwork evident around the exterior, as well as the outbuildings and the gatehouse. The Prince of Wales is reported to have "long harboured" contempt for both Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, according to the book, and would seek to remove the pair himself upon ascending to the throne should his father fail to do so.
