The United Arab Emirates is set to take part with a fully integrated national pavilion at the 17th edition of the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), to be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from 22 to 27 July 2025.This participation embodies the UAE's sovereign vision to develop a cutting-edge national defence sector, led by specialist institutions with the expertise to advance industrial capability.
The national pavilion will be overseen by Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement (Tawazun), in line with its central role in supporting local defence industries and enhancing their global competitiveness.
The UAE Pavilion will host a number of leading national companies operating in the defence and technology sectors, including EDGE Group, Calidus, and Capital Events — the latter showcasing ongoing preparations for the 2027 editions of the IDEX and NAVDEX exhibitions.
Also taking a central role is Tawazun Industrial Park (TIP), which will highlight its strategic expansion plans aimed at developing an advanced and enabling industrial ecosystem. TIP will also present its capabilities as a national platform for attracting defence-related industrial investment and high-tech manufacturers, reinforcing the UAE's position as a leading industrial hub in the region.
Matar Ali Al Romaithi, Sector Chief of Defence and Security Industry Affairs at Tawazun, stated: 'Our participation in IDEF 2025 is a continuation of our strategy to build strategic industrial partnerships and strengthen channels of cooperation with key regional and international defence markets. Türkiye is a vital partner in our shared drive for innovation and the development of modern, effective defence systems.'
'With the support of the UAE's wise leadership, Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement continues to advance national defence industries, enhancing their global competitiveness through access to cutting-edge technologies, the expansion of strategic partnerships, and investment in qualified Emirati talent.' he added.
Al Romaithi noted that this participation forms part of the Council's recently launched 2025–2028 strategic plan, which aims to develop a fully integrated defence industrial enablement, advanced technology adoption, and the attraction and development of national talent. The plan also seeks to deepen international cooperation, support economic diversification, and cement the UAE's status as a global hub for defence and security industries.
The UAE's participation in this prominent international event — ranked as the world's fourth-largest defence exhibition by number of exhibitors — reflects the nation's ambition to cement its leadership in defence innovation, sovereign technology, and a knowledge- and sustainability-driven economy.

Drydocks World Launches Public Contest to Name Middle East's Largest Floating Crane

Drydocks World, a subsidiary of DP World and one of the UAE's most prominent maritime facilities, has launched a city-wide competition inviting Dubai residents to name a monumental new engineering achievement—a 5,000-tonne floating crane, the largest of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. This colossal crane marks a milestone in the company's decades-long journey at the forefront of maritime engineering. With the capacity to lift loads of up to 5,000 tonnes and a reach of 180 metres—equal to the rooftop height of the Burj Al Arab—the floating crane is designed to support mega maritime and energy projects. It is currently under construction by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (ZPMC) and is expected to arrive in Dubai in the summer of 2026. However, the name must be selected now to be engraved onto the crane during its fabrication phase. Drydocks World is calling on engineers, creatives, students, and everyday residents alike to participate. Suggested names must reflect the UAE's values—such as strength, maritime heritage, and forward-looking innovation—and can be in either Arabic or English. Each entry must include a short explanation of the inspiration behind the proposed name. H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, stated, This crane is more than machinery. It's a symbol of Dubai's ambition, resilience and engineering excellence. Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, added, This new crane represents the next leap forward in scale, capability, and innovation. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, including Drydocks World leadership, Emirati cultural figures, and branding experts. The winner will receive a signed full-size 2025 McLaren Racing helmet, presented in celebration of the upcoming Formula 1 finale at Yas Marina Circuit. Dubai residents have until August 4, 2025, to submit their entries at The chosen name will become a permanent part of regional maritime history, engraved into one of the world's most powerful cranes. New Housing Dispute Law Reinforces Dubai's Commitment to Emirati Wellbeing and Social Stability

Directors General of key Dubai government entities have affirmed that the newly issued law concerning the settlement of disputes arising from citizen house building contracts reflects His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's commitment to enhancing the well-being and family stability of Emirati citizens. The law is seen as a strategic measure that supports sustainable social development and improves the efficiency of the judicial system. The law establishes a structured legal framework to resolve disputes between Emirati citizens, contractors, and consultants involved in residential construction projects. It integrates both amicable and judicial settlement mechanisms within a clear timeframe, aiming to expedite housing delivery, preserve contractual obligations, and enhance trust in the system. His Excellency Prof. Saif Ghanem Al Suwaidi, Director General of Dubai Courts, noted that the law aligns with the objectives of the 'Year of Community' and contributes directly to the Dubai Social Agenda 33. He emphasised that the new legislation ensures swift justice, helping avoid lengthy litigation processes and enabling housing projects to proceed without delay. His Excellency Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, described the law as a milestone in Dubai's housing sector. He highlighted that it helps streamline relationships between stakeholders, ensuring all citizen housing projects are executed according to urban planning and quality standards. By doing so, it contributes to greater family comfort and satisfaction. Adding further insight, His Excellency Prof. Abdullah Saif Al-Sabousi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Judicial Council, pointed out that the law is a valuable addition to the emirate's judicial structure. It includes the establishment of a dedicated branch within the Centre for Amicable Settlement of Disputes, enabling efficient, specialised handling of cases. This move supports Dubai's broader efforts to strengthen alternative dispute resolution and reinforce public trust in legal processes. Overall, the law is expected to elevate the quality and reliability of citizen housing initiatives while ensuring long-term benefits for Emirati families through timely, fair, and expert-led conflict resolution.
