American singer Jason Derulo rates chicken rice ‘10 out of 10' at Lau Pa Sat

SINGAPORE – Ahead of his evening performance on June 25 at The Star Theatre, American R&B star Jason Derulo went on a local food hunt at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre.
The 35-year-old Want To Want Me singer tried a variety of dishes, from chicken rice, chilli crab sauce lala clams and rojak to desserts like ice kacang.
He was joined by 27-year-old local content creator Denise Teo, who goes by supercatkei online.
Derulo said of ice kacang: 'It doesn't look like it's going to be creamy, but it's very creamy. A lot of flavours going on. I love mango. I'm going to give this a nine out of 10.'
The singer then proceeded to sample chicken rice. He said: 'Yeah, that's it. I could eat this everyday. A 10 out of 10.'
Rojak, however, was not to his liking. 'The sauce looks nice. Peanutty. I don't love peanut with my dinner, so it's not really my vibe. I'm gonna have to give that a four.'
The video ended with the You DJ, I'll Drive singer trying lala. 'This is way better than it looks. This is an eight out of 10.'
Derulo is currently on his Nu King World Tour, which stops in Ho Chi Minh City on June 28. The Florida native made a name for himself on TikTok during the pandemic by taking part in viral challenges and more. He currently has 66.1 million followers on the video platform.

He last held a concert here in 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and also headlined the Sundown Festival in 2023 at Pasir Panjang Power Station. While the Golden Melody Award winner appeared cheerful onstage, he recently had to deal with the death of one of his dogs. Gabi was hospitalised in Taipei due to health conditions a few days before the singer had to leave for Shenzhen to hold a concert on June 21. In a post on June 24, the singer said he and his wife and manager, Summer Lin, had stayed with the dog for a while before they left . When they arrived in Shenzhen, things in Taipei seemed to be under control. However, before the final rehearsal for the Shenzhen show, they received the news that Gabi had died. Hsiao wrote: 'Summer and I cried loudly in the lounge for a long time. I almost collapsed on the day of the performance, and still shed tears during the final curtain call.' On June 22, he took the earliest flight back to Taipei to deal with the dog's funeral. He said: 'Our whole family needs time... Because I have to let you know, she is my child. The moment, which was caught on video, showed Beyonce wearing a white cowboy hat with an American flag by her side performing her song, 16 Carriages (2024), from the back of a red convertible when it slanted in the air over the crowds. 'Stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop. Stop,' Beyonce calmly announced as she paused the performance over the roaring crowd, which called for her to be brought down. The car and Beyonce were harnessed to cables and she could be seen gripping one as the vehicle continued to dangle over concertgoers, who held up their illuminated smartphones like candles. Beyonce, 43, was slowly lowered to safety, much to the joy and relief of her fans who cheered her. 'OMG, she scared me,'' one fan shared in a video. In another clip when she was back onstage, Beyonce told the crowd, 'If ever I fall, I know y'all would catch me.' It was not clear what led to the mishap. Parkwood Entertainment, Beyonce's management company, said in an Instagram post that 'a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyonce uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt'. The company said: 'She was quickly lowered and no one was injured.' A representative for NRG Stadium, where the concert took place, did not give further details. In a compilation of images from the show, the company also included one of Beyonce performing from the dangling prop. The concert, in her hometown, was the first of her two shows at NRG Stadium last weekend. The concerts are part of her international Cowboy Carter Tour, which opened in April in Los Angeles, to support her 2024 album, Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the Grammys in 2025.
