Will fill up 1 lakh govt jobs in Telangana by June 2026, says CM Revanth Reddy; 42% BC quota in local polls, slams BRS at Tirumalagiri meet
HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday promised to provide one lakh govt jobs to Telangana's youth before the Congress regime completes two-and-a-half years in office, by June 2026.
He also reaffirmed his party's commitment to implement 42% political reservations for BCs in upcoming local body elections.
Addressing a public meeting at Tirumalagiri in Thungathurthy constituency in Nalgonda district, Revanth hit out at the previous BRS govt for 'failing' both the unemployed youth and the backward classes.
He launched the second phase of ration card distribution.

"The BRS didn't give jobs or empower the people.
Lakhs of students waited endlessly while the govt ignored vacancies," Revanth said. "In just one year, our govt has created a record by filling 60,000 jobs-a feat no other state has matched. We'll ensure one lakh jobs before mid-2026. The Congress will rule for 10 years to build a $1 trillion economy by 2035," he said.

"We will bring Devadula project water to your fields soon. What stopped the BRS for 10 years?" he asked.
Revanth emphasised the Congress' commitment to BC reservations. "As Rahul Gandhi promised, the 'Indiramma govt' will implement 42% BC quota in local body polls. No more being ruled-BCs will become the rulers," he declared.
Urging party workers to prepare for the upcoming sarpanch, ward member, MPTC, ZPTC, and ZP elections, Revanth used sharp rhetoric: "Don't let others win.
Pluck them out like ganja weed from a Tulasi vanam." "Ask yourselves-are you getting fine rice, free bus travel, gas cylinders at Rs 500, 200 units of free electricity, Rs 2 lakh crop loan waivers, MSP with bonus, and Rs 9,000 cr Rythu Bharosa? The answer is yes. And unlike former CM KCR, I'm accessible.
Anyone can meet me," he said.
'Ration cards restored
with dignity'
Taking a swipe at the BRS, the CM pointed out that no new ration cards were issued in the past 10 years. "We are not only issuing new cards but also allowing lakhs of new members to be added. Ration cards are the poor's identity and their right to eat fine rice," he said. Later, he distributed ration cards to select beneficiaries and handed over a Rs 49 crore interest-free loan cheque to women SHGs.

Big challenges ahead for new DIG Vartika Katiyar
Ballari: Vartika Katiyar, a 2010-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Ballari zone. She previously served as the DIG of the State Home Guards and Civil Defence Corps. Following the retirement of BS Lokesh, the former Inspector General of Police of Ballari zone on April 30, Vartika assumed the position that remained unfilled since then. The Ballari zone encompasses Ballari, Vijayanagara, Koppal, and Raichur districts, featuring significant locations including the Unesco World Heritage Site Hampi, iron ore mines at Ballari and Sandur, Tungabhadra dam in Koppal, thermal power stations in Ballari and Raichur, and lengthy borders with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. As a result, there was a rise in interstate traffic, attracting tourists and workers from both India and abroad. Naturally, this led to an increase in crime cases, with the highest number reported in the Hampi Development Authority. The new DIG is also tasked with managing the multitude of unauthorised resorts and the range of illegal activities taking place there. In the first week of March this year, incidents such as the sexual assault of an Israeli tourist and a local resort owner in Sanapur, located in the Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district, the murder of a tourist from Odisha, and the assault on an American national were highlighted in both national and international media. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I'm retiring! In this context, R Hithendra, the additional director general of police (Law & Order), sent a letter to Koppal SP Ram L Arasiddi on June 30, directing him to take immediate action to safeguard foreign tourists. Nevertheless, issues such as illegal mining, unauthorised resorts, gambling, and illegal sand smuggling persist without interruption. In the meantime, the Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA) scheduled an eviction operation for July 16 to remove illegally constructed resorts at various locations along the Tungabhadra River, including Sanapura in Gangavathi. This sparked curiosity among the local residents regarding how the new DIG will tackle this seemingly insurmountable challenge. Additionally, Vijayanagara district also underwent administrative changes with Jahnavi S, a 2019-batch IPS officer previously serving as DCP in Mysuru, being appointed as the new superintendent of police. She replaces Dr Srihari Babu BL, who served as SP for 2.8 years and was transferred to Bengaluru as CCB DCP.

Tennis player challenges exclusion of game from Hindu College sports quota admissions
New Delhi: A junior national-level tennis player has moved the Delhi High Court questioning the alleged omission of tennis from the list of games available to seek admission under the sports quota at Hindu College of Delhi University. Justice Vikas Mahajan on Monday sought the stand of the college and DU on the plea filed by Aditi Rawat, challenging the absence of lawn tennis in the sports offered by the college for admission under the sports quota for the upcoming academic year. The plea stated that Rawat is "a distinguished Lawn Tennis athlete and gold medallist at the CBSE Nationals" and challenges "the arbitrary denial of admission" under the Sports Quota (Lawn Tennis) at Hindu College. It contends that the college authorities violated DU's Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) Policy 2025-26, which provides for a mandatory 5% supernumerary sports quota in each college. Highlighting that the student-athlete has outstanding qualifications at various levels, such as national-level sports achievements, and also satisfies all eligibility conditions for admission under the sports quota, the petition seeks direction to the college to reserve one seat for her until the court decides the matter. As per the plea, Rawat applied for admission in DU under the sports quota with Hindu College as her first preference. "To the utter surprise and grave prejudice of the petitioner, it was revealed that Hindu College has not allotted even a single seat under the discipline of Lawn Tennis, neither for men nor for women candidates. This is despite the fact that Lawn Tennis is among the recognised and approved sporting disciplines under the Sports Quota admissions, and several other colleges under DU have allotted such seats. The omission is both unjustified and discriminatory, creating a hostile environment for Lawn Tennis aspirants, such as the petitioner," the petition says.

Samik: Not party's job to attend ‘namaz' or ‘hari naam sankirtan'
Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, who has been making attempts to recalibrate its political narrative in the state, on Tuesday said a party's job was not to attend "namaz" or "hari naam sankirtan (chanting Hari)". Bhattacharya, who emphasised BJP's "inclusive politics", also claimed that Trinamool had fostered divisions in society. "A political party's duty is not to participate in namaz or hari naam sankirtan, but to provide assistance to people for hospitalisation, admission in schools, or better civic amenities. People don't come to political workers to listen to Sundarkanda of Ramayana," Bhattacharya said at a workers' meet in Cooch Behar. Bhattacharya, who has earlier tried to bridge the gap with minority communities and said BJP is not against Muslims, asked party workers to refrain from divisive politics. "A political party's job is not to wedge a divide among people. We want Durga visarjan and Muharram processions to go forward simultaneously. They shouldn't need different routes," he said. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata Taking on Trinamool, Bhattacharya said: "Who is trying to change the situation in Bengal? Who is forcing Hindus to unite overnight? Trinamool has changed the narrative in West Bengal." He claimed a member of the Muslim community could not even protest against atrocities on Hindus without being "attacked" by the governing party. In the same breath, the Bengal BJP president criticised attempts at radicalisation. "What is happening in Murshidabad, Maheshtala or Kidderpore? Radicalisation is a curse on the entire world and we have to fight against this," he said. Saying the party had always put the country first, Bhattacharya said: "Indira Gandhi was a Congress neta. Yet (former PM Atal Bihari) Vajpayee ji called her 'Devi Durga'. BJP doesn't believe in political differences if it is about the national interest."
