Krishna Babu said that through this programme, people can become more aware of risk factors like high blood pressure and, by controlling it, prevent several major health issues like brain stroke, heart attack, kidney failure before they occur.
ISA president Dr Vijaya gave power point presentation on hyper-tension and stroke. She explained that 80% of strokes are preventable while the most important risk factor is hyper-tension.
Dr Arvind Sharma, ISA secretory, said that free BP screening will be done in several places in Guntur including GGH, Bar Association, SBI, Drug wholesale, SHO, Mallineni Engineering College.
Later, MT Krishna Babu flagged off mobile BP bus.
Guntur district DMHO Dr Vijaya Lakshmi, Indian Red Cross society Treasurer AP State Branch P Rama Chandra Raju, Rotary Club president G Subba Rao, neurologists of Guntur and others participated in the programme.

Haryana: CMOs of 5 districts with worst sex ratio to lose powers
Haryana's additional chief secretary (ACS-health) Sudhir Rajpal on Tuesday said that the powers of the chief medical officers (CMOs) of five districts — Ambala, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Palwal and Sirsa — under the PNDT Act would be withdrawn. During a meeting, it emerged that these districts performed below expectations and registered a downward trend in sex ratio as compared to last year. The top performing districts, who have achieved significant improvement in sex ratio, will be rewarded by the Haryana government. The ACS (health) said that the powers of the CMOs in question would be given to their counterparts in neighbouring districts. Rajpal also ordered chargesheeting the nodal officers (PNDT Act) in these five districts. New officers will be appointed in their places, he said. During the meeting, Rajpal directed de-listing of private hospitals, medical centres and clinics from empanelment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and any other government facility in case they are allegedly involved in 'illegal abortions'. Emphasising the need of stringent enforcement against illegal abortions, including revoking the licences of doctors found involved in this racket, Rajpal directed to seal all medical centres and clinics which are found involved in such malpractices. 'The centres carrying out illegal abortions in the garb of dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure should also be identified and action be taken against them,' Rajpal said during the weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF), set up for improving the sex ratio in Haryana. The meeting focused on intensifying efforts to curb illegal abortions and further improve the state's sex ratio under the 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign. An official spokesperson said that special state squads, comprising HCS and other senior officers, would be formed to monitor corrective action to curb illegal abortions in the aforementioned five districts. The top performing districts, who have achieved significant improvement in sex ratio, will be rewarded. Anyone providing accurate information of doctors/quacks involved in illegal abortion practices, including sex determination tests, to the CMO concerned would be rewarded with a cash incentive of ₹1 lakh.

New Delhi: Only 3 per cent of hepatitis B patients in India are aware of their condition, and less than 1 per cent of eligible individuals receive antiviral treatment. "These are not just statistics—they reflect a silent public health crisis that demands immediate, coordinated action,' said Rajesh Bhushan, Former Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Chairperson, Illness to Wellness Foundation , during his keynote address at the 'Illness to Wellness' Awareness Conference held in New Delhi on World Hepatitis Day. Organised by the Illness to Wellness Foundation, the conference was held under the theme 'Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment for Hepatitis'. It brought together leading medical professionals, public health advocates, and policymakers to discuss India's rising hepatitis burden and the need for stronger policy, better access, and increased public awareness. Bhushan identified five urgent priorities- Expanded screening and surveillance, Timely administration of the hepatitis B birth-dose vaccine, Decentralised access to treatment, Community-level awareness campaigns, Use of real-time data to drive interventions. He also emphasised the importance of collaborative action. 'Strategic interventions must be led not just by the government but through partnerships with civil society, the private sector, healthcare professionals, and the medical community,' he said. The conference served as a platform to call for coordinated national efforts to tackle hepatitis and move closer to elimination targets. In his welcome address, Anil Rajput, Chairperson, Advisory Council, Illness to Wellness foundation, said, 'This year's World Hepatitis Day theme, 'Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down,' is a powerful reminder that the fight against hepatitis requires a holistic, multi-dimensional approach that addresses the social, economic, and systemic roots of the disease.' During the session, health experts highlighted alarming global data that only 45% of new-borns receive the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth, which is a critical gap in prevention. They also emphasised that WHO's 2030 target to eliminate hepatitis, which calls for a 90% reduction in new infections and 80% treatment coverage, hinges on several key strategies: universal vaccination, timely diagnosis, people-centred care, and widespread public awareness to combat stigma. The conference concluded with a call to action: to break the silence, scale the response, and build a hepatitis-free Bharat by 2030.

Surrogacy racket: Min Satyakumar Yadav orders review of fertility centres across Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav has ordered a thorough review of fertility centres across Andhra Pradesh following reports of irregularities at a facility in Hyderabad. Concerned by discrepancies, the minister instructed officials to examine the functioning of all fertility clinics and submit a detailed report on licensing, inspections, operations, and regulatory compliance. According to official sources, there is a mismatch between the number of fertility centres licensed by District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) and those listed online, suggesting the presence of unauthorised facilities. Minister Yadav reminded that DMHOs are responsible for issuing licences and overseeing daily operations of hospitals and fertility centres. He warned of strict action against clinics operating without valid licences or violating health protocols. The minister called for a district-wise report detailing licensed and unlicensed centres, inspections conducted in 2024–25, violations found, complaints received, actions taken, and centres denied permission. Urgency intensified after a surprise inspection at Universal Health Care Centre in Vijayawada by NTR District DMHO Dr Suhasini. The centre, sanctioned under the name Namrata, was closed, and its doctor was recently arrested for alleged violations. A preliminary report was submitted to the minister's office.
