Yahoo16-06-2025
The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers by a 5-2 final score in Game 5. This was a massive win for the Panthers, as they now have a 3-2 series lead and are just one win away from lifting the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row.
Panthers star Brad Marchand was certainly a huge reason why Florida won Game 5. He put together an excellent performance, scoring two beautiful goals during the contest.

Marchand's second goal, however, was incredible. After receiving a pass from Eetu Luostarinen, Marchand made an amazing move by Oilers defenseman Jake Walman before beating Calvin Pickard five-hole.
In response to Marchand's awesome second goal, Panthers teammate Matthew Tkachuk was shocked and hilariously shouted "oh my god" six times.
Tkachuk's reaction to Marchand's goal is understandable, as it was a great one from No. 63. It was also an incredibly important one, as it gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in third period and ended up being the game-winner.
Marchand, Tkachuk, and the Panthers will now look to stay hot and defeat the Oilers in Game 6 from here.

MLS suspension of Messi and Alba is 'draconian,' Inter Miami owner says

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The owner of Inter Miami called Major League Soccer's suspension of Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba for skipping the All-Star Game a 'draconian' punishment. 'They don't understand the decision,' owner Jorge Mas said Friday of the one-game suspensions. 'They don't understand why not attending an exhibition match leads directly to a suspension.' Messi and Alba did not suit up for the match between the MLS and Liga MX of Mexico despite being voted to the game. Messi did not play to rest amid a packed schedule and Alba was dealing with a previous injury. Mas said the club made the decision for Messi and Alba to sit out of the All-Star Game. Per MLS rules, any player who doesn't participate in the All-Star Game without prior approval from the league is ineligible to compete in their club's next match. The players will miss Miami's home match Saturday against FC Cincinnati, which sits atop the Eastern Conference standings. Both Messi and Alba practiced with the club on Friday in anticipation of playing in Saturday's match before MLS announced the suspension. 'I know Lionel Messi loves this league,' said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. 'I don't think there's a player — or anyone — who has done more for Major League Soccer than Messi. I fully understand, respect, and admire his commitment to Inter Miami, and I respect his decision. 'Unfortunately, we have a long-standing policy regarding participation in the All-Star Game, and we had to enforce it. It was a very difficult decision.' Garber added that the league will re-evaluate the policy and work with players to 'determine how the rule should evolve.' Mas said Inter Miami expressed its disagreement over the suspension and the rule. Mas also noted there were six MLS games Friday night less than 48 hours after an All-Star Game. 'That's not right,' Mas said. 'That's not right to the players.' ___ AP soccer:

Dolphins agree to terms with Mike Hilton

The Dolphins doubled up on experienced additions to their cornerback corps on Saturday. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said that his client Mike Hilton has agreed to terms with the team. That news came after the Dolphins confirmed that they have signed former Patriots and Raiders corner Jack Jones. Hilton spent the last four seasons with the Bengals and his first four seasons with the Steelers. He had 73 tackles and an interception last season and has 520 tackles, 13 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries for his career. The Dolphins came into camp with questions at corner after trading Jalen Ramsey. They lost Artie Burns to a torn ACL in their first training camp practice and Kader Kohou left Saturday's session after suffering an apparent leg injury, but they have not given any update on his condition.

Miami Dolphins sign former Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones to 1-year deal

The Miami Dolphins added needed help to their secondary on Saturday, signing cornerback Jack Jones to a one-year deal. Jones had 69 tackles, three interceptions— one returned for a touchdown — and 15 pass breakups in 16 starts for the Raiders last season. The Raiders released him earlier this year. A fourth-round draft pick by New England in 2022, Jones played two up-and-down seasons for the Patriots before being released and claimed off waivers by Las Vegas in 2023. Jones played in 24 games and started 19 for Las Vegas, intercepting five passes and returning three for touchdowns. He also found himself out of position several times and allowed opposing receivers to make big plays. His four defensive touchdowns are the second most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2022. The Raiders released him earlier this year. Miami was in the market for a starting-caliber cornerback after trading All-Pro Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month. The Dolphins this offseason added several cornerbacks that are expected to compete for roster spots. One, veteran Artie Burns, went on injured reserve this week after suffering a torn ACL on the first day of training camp. Also Saturday, the Dolphins waived cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr.
