Partial e-gate operations restored at BSI and KSAB, recovery efforts ongoing
Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said as of 6 pm today, 26 out of 68 e-gates at BSI and three out of 12 at KSAB were back in service.
'Traffic congestion at both CIQ (Customs, Immigration and Quarantine) complexes is currently under control, based on monitoring conducted this evening,' he told Bernama.
Manual counters were activated to ease the congestion after the system malfunction, which began around 1 pm yesterday, he added.
'The e-gate disruption is a nationwide issue and relevant agencies are actively working to resolve it at both BSI and KSAB,' he said.
He also confirmed that ongoing monitoring is being carried out to ensure smooth traffic flow at both complexes.
The automated gate system outage affecting foreign visitors at key national entry points was reportedly caused by a data integration issue that slowed down cross-verification processes within the MyIMMS immigration system.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the disruption led to long queues and congestion at several major locations, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2, as well as at BSI and KSAB CIQs.
The agency clarified that Malaysian passport holders were not affected by the disruption and that the Immigration Department has taken immediate action to address the issue. — BERNAMA

The Twitter post soon went viral, raking in hundreds of comments. Most of the comments were from locals who said they feel proud to see a K-pop idol carry the Malaysian passport. Some also said the photo made them feel proud to be Malaysian. At the same time, many fans also quipped that LingLing was flexing her Malaysian passport, which is one of the strongest passports in the world. According to the Henley Passport Index, the Malaysian passport currently ranks in 11th place globally, with 181 visa-free destinations. Speaking of Malaysia, LingLing will make her first public appearance as a K-pop idol in her home country later this week. KIIRAS will make an appearance at UOW University on 1st August 2025 (Friday) for the Astro 'The Music Journey 2' roadshow. The girl group is also reportedly making an appearance at a brand event at a local mall on 2nd August 2025 (Saturday). They will conduct interviews with local radio stations. Stranded umrah pilgrims return home after four days in Jeddah
SEPANG: Thirty-nine Malaysian umrah pilgrims who were stranded in Jeddah for four days due to their travel agency's failure to provide return flight tickets have safely returned home. The group arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11.32am today on Malaysia Airlines flight MH157 from Jeddah, which departed at 9pm Saudi time. Among them was Nazira Frijand Ali, 48, from Kulai, Johor, who said she and her husband had paid over RM12,000 for a "golden" package, only to be let down by undelivered promises. "I could have bought my own return ticket, but I couldn't bear to leave the other pilgrims, especially the elderly. We had become like family," she said, adding that she plans to file a police report and seek compensation from the agency. Firabib Group Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Firdaus Mat Akhir stepped in to finance the group's return, covering RM71,370 for 39 flight tickets, including one for a mutawif. "I have no affiliation with the company managing the group and never agreed to any reimbursement. I helped purely out of compassion," he said. The group's mutawif, Muhammad Abu Sufyan Mohd Mokhtar Rozaidi also known as PU Abu denied being a partner of the agency and said he had only been working with them since 2023. "In Jeddah, I did what I could to help the pilgrims get home. I'm grateful others stepped in. I've decided to resign, as the company is now facing financial trouble," he said. Previously, 43 pilgrims were reported stranded in Jeddah after the agency, Persada Global Holidays Sdn Bhd, failed to provide return flight tickets upon completion of their umrah. On Sunday, Berita Harian reported that the agency's managing director, Shahir Ibrahim, admitted all the pilgrims were under the company's care but said they were unable to arrange return flights due to financial difficulties.

HONG KONG: Popular actress Charmaine Sheh received a warm welcome from hundreds of Malaysian fans during her appearance at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on July 26. The 50-year-old star was in town for the grand opening of a restaurant, which included a special meet-and-greet session with her fans. Speaking to local media, Sheh expressed a keen interest in returning to Malaysia for future filming opportunities. She had previously shot the popular TVB drama 'The Heir To The Throne' in various locations around the Klang Valley. "It's very comfortable here. The food is delicious, and the scenery is beautiful. I also had a lot of fun getting along with the other actors. Malaysia is like a second Hong Kong," she said. Sheh added that she had been eating non-stop since her arrival on July 24. Among the local delicacies she particularly enjoyed were durian, chicken rice, and satay. " I don't have to worry about losing weight," said the actress, who recently wrapped up filming for the second season of 'Queen Of News'. Sheh also revealed that her mother had joined her on this Malaysian trip, and the pair plan to extend their stay. "We'll be staying a few more days to go sightseeing," she said.
