3 of Gurugram firm booked for workers' death at Bathinda STP
A day after three sanitation workers died while cleaning a sewage treatment plant (STP) in the residential township of Guru Gobind Singh Refinery near Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district, police on Wednesday booked three officials of the Gurugram-based private firm running the plant. Among the three deceased workers were Astar Ali, Sukhpal Singh and Rajwinder Singh, while another worker, Krishan Kumar, suffered injuries. (HT)
Safety in-charge Anil Kumar, general manager Sanjay Harsh and manager Amit Garg were booked under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and under relevant sections of the Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act.
The legal action was initiated on the complaint of Anwar Ali whose brother Astar Ali was among the three deceased workers. Sukhpal Singh and Rajwinder Singh had also died, while another worker, Krishan Kumar, suffered injuries.
The victims were working for the private firm hired by the refinery management for STP's maintenance works.
In the FIR, the complainant accused the firm officials of not providing safety equipment and examining the poisonous gas at the plant. He also blamed the firm officials for overlooking the safety drill before commissioning work for the victims.
No arrest has been made so far. Meanwhile, official sources said the contractor had agreed to pay ₹ 37 lakh as relief to each deceased's family.

The caller claimed to be a representative from the Mantralaya Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, and informed her that he was calling following instructions from the Udupi Krishna Mutt. He assured her that she had been selected to receive financial assistance amounting to Rs 2.90 lakh for her treatment. However, to receive this money, the caller told her she needed to first pay Rs 29,900 as tax in order to process the donation. Trusting the promise of help from what she believed was a religious and credible source, she transferred the asked amount using PhonePe. She sent another Rs 4,000 in two these payments, the fraudster reassured her that the promised amount would be credited to her account by 11:45 AM that same day and instructed her to call him afterwards. However, the victim waited for hours, but no money was credited to her account. Man Kills 5 Puppies With Stick In Madhya Pradesh, Says They'd Bark At Night
Jabalpur: A man allegedly beat five puppies to death in Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh, after apparently being annoyed by their barking, police said on Thursday. Rajesh Dahiya was arrested on Wednesday for killing the young dogs in the Maharajpur locality, Adhartal police station house officer PK Kumre told reporters. The accused told the police that the puppies used to bark throughout the night, disturbing the entire area, the official said. "We received a complaint that Dahiya had killed five to six puppies with a stick near a school on the night of June 30," Kumre said. Some animal activists even shared a video of the act with the police, he said. The carcass of one of the dead puppies has been sent for post-mortem. Dahiya allegedly abused the animal activists when they confronted him about the incident, the official said. Dahiya has been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 296 (obscene acts and songs) and 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animals), he added.
