Welfare Minister calls for making Prakasam anaemia-free district

Ongole: Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and collector A Thameem Ansariya urged everyone to work towards making Prakasam district free from anaemia.
The minister and the collector participated in the closing ceremony of the Nutrition Fortnight (Poshan Pakhwada) celebrations organised by the Women Development and Child Welfare Department in Ongole on Tuesday. As part of the celebrations, a rally was conducted from the Collectorate to the Mini Stadium.
Mayor Gangada Sujata, Joint Collector R Gopala Krishna, ICDS Project Director Hena Sujan, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Venkateswara Rao, along with officials from DRDA and MEPMA, ASHA workers, students, and others also participated. Joint collector Gopal Krishna administered an oath to the participants.
Speaking at the event, Minister Dr Swamy emphasised that childhood is precious, and the government's primary goal is to ensure every child lives a healthy life.
He stressed the need to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates in the district and highlighted the concerning prevalence of child marriages in Prakasam district that must be prevented. The minister explained that the Nutrition Fortnight, observed from the April 8th to the 22nd, focused on different themes each day.
He emphasised that the first 1,000 days of a child's life after birth are crucial, requiring proper nutrition, mental development training, and efforts to eliminate anaemia among pregnant women, new mothers, and adolescent girls. He called for strong coordination between ICDS, the Medical Health Department, and the Education Department. The minister praised the establishment of a District Child Resource Centre and a lactation room for mothers with infants at the Collectorate.
Collector Thameem Ansariya detailed the various activities conducted during the 15-day programme, including awareness sessions on breastfeeding, village-level health and sanitation nutrition days, and counselling for proper care during the first 1,000 days from conception to age two. She confirmed that efforts are ongoing to make Prakasam an anaemia-free district with everyone's cooperation.
Following the speeches, the minister, collector, and other officials inaugurated the breastfeeding room for nursing mothers at the Collectorate. The minister also visited the District Child Resource Centre and inspected a photo exhibition arranged for the occasion.

Field visits and outreach campaigns are also conducted in areas reporting harassment or exploitation, focusing on mental, physical, and emotional abuse. District collector Rajakumari Ganiya outlined the district administration's efforts to bolster support systems for women and children since Nandyal's formation as a new district. Initiatives include setting up of child care homes, District Child Protection Units (DCPUs), and One-Stop Centres. She reported a significant decline in child malnourishment due to field interventions and ongoing efforts to curb child marriages and adolescent pregnancies through inter-departmental awareness and legal enforcement. Additional SP Jawali said the police department is committed to women's safety, urging students to stay vigilant against cybercrime and utilise tools like the Shakti app. He encouraged reporting harassment through women's help desks available at all police stations. The event featured a photo exhibition by the ICDS department, showcasing government welfare initiatives. Commission members, ICDS officials, students, and representatives from related departments attended.

Nellore: District Collector O Anand has lauded that the role of sanitary workers as most crucial in keeping Nellore garbage-free city. As part of ongoing Swachh Andhra Divas (SAD), the Collector has felicitated 25 sanitary workers working in municipalities and panchayats in a special programme organised at SR Sankaran Hall at the Collectorate here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that he felt happy on felicitating the sanitary workers as they are rendering remarkable services in the interest of protecting the people's health despite facing severe health hazards. The Collector said that after the declaration of SAD six months ago, the government's sanitary workers in both municipalities and panchayats, were rendering invaluable services by hitting on to the roads right from wee hours. On the occasion, the Collector urged the staff working in municipalities and panchayats to create awareness among people on segregation of dry and wet waste. He said that a toll-free number 1800 425 0017 has been set up at the Collectorate to receive complaints regarding drinking water and sanitation in the municipalities and panchayats in the district and promptly redress them. On this occasion, the Collector also felicitated the representatives of Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) G Chitti Babu, SK Gulam Shafi Ahmadh and Gaddam Satish. Nellore Municipal Commissioner Y O Nandan, District Panchayat Officer Sridhar Reddy and others were present.

Nirmal: District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among departments to resolve public issues. Speaking at a meeting with officials at the Collectorate on Monday, she instructed tahsildars to continuously monitor the implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act and ensure swift resolution of applications. The marking process for Indiramma housing is already 55% complete, and she urged officials to finish the remaining portion immediately and begin construction. In a pioneering move, Nirmal district has issued special Aarogyasri health cards to orphaned children in shelter homes, enabling them to receive up to Rs 10 lakh in free corporate medical care. The Collector also congratulated women's groups from the district who were recognised at a programme held in Hyderabad. Under the district Horticulture department, farmer Sandupatla Rajeshwar from Tandhra Ji village in Sarangapur mandal received a subsidy cheque of Rs 93,775 as the first installment for constructing a shed for mulberry leaf cultivation under the Silk Samagra-2 scheme, which has a total budget of Rs 4.5 lakh. The Collector encouraged farmers to think innovatively and cultivate new crops for better profits. Additional Collectors Faizan Ahmad and Kishore Kumar, RDO Ratnakalyani, and officials from various departments attended the programme.
