Uganda bounce back in style against neighbours Tanzania
Three second half goals by Simon Wanyama, Richard Okello and James Ogere's well taken penalty sealed an emphatic win for the Ugandans.
The wounded Ugandans came off their starting blocks early in the opening minutes, with Wanyama, Bogere and Isima Magala orchestrating some exciting build ups for their side.
Tanzania, who came into the clash equally wounded by a 4-1 defeat to Zambia tried unlocking the Ugandan defense but were let down by poor decision making.
The two sides went into the break with nothing separating them, setting up what would be an action filled second half.
Wanyama found the opener in the 61st minute in what would be a goal that calms the nerves for the Ugandans.
A lapse of concentration in 85th minute saw Okello capitalising in the danger area as he pounced on a loose ball to put the match beyond reach with just five minutes to play.
With the match well in their control, Uganda sealed a sweet victory after Tanzania conceded a penalty in the dying minutes for Magala to comfortably slot home the third.
The vital win sees Uganda move ahead of bottom placed Tanzania who have their campaign hanging in the balance.

CHAN 2024: Uganda's volunteer force gears up to deliver memorable tournament
Published: Friday, 18 July 2025 Uganda is stepping up its preparations for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 by finalising a dedicated team of volunteers set to play a pivotal role in the East African nation's co-hosting duties. With just weeks to go until the continental tournament kicks off on 2 August 2025, Uganda's Local Organising Committee (LOC) has completed the initial phase of its volunteer recruitment drive, drawing a remarkable 1,884 applicants during the application window held from 14 to 22 June. The overwhelming response reflects the growing public excitement ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Following strict eligibility checks—particularly the age requirement of 18 and above—1,222 applicants have advanced to the next stage of the programme. These selected volunteers will undergo comprehensive training beginning 25 July, led by experts from the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF). The training will cover venue-specific protocols, operational standards, and service excellence to ensure that volunteers are fully prepared to contribute to the success of Africa's premier home-based player competition.
