Glamorgan romp to one-sided win over Kent

Rothesay County Championship Division Two, The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury (day three)Glamorgan 549-9 dec: Kellaway 181*, Tribe 94, Ingram 70; Kashif Ali 4-92, Parkinson 3-149Kent 212: Benjamin 94*; Van der Gugten 3-23, Harris 3-59& 176: Muyeye 41; Fernando 3-18, van der Gugten 3-33Glamorgan (23 pts) beat Kent (2 pts) by an innings and 161 runsMatch scorecard
Glamorgan raced to a three-day victory by the massive margin of an innings and 161 runs as Asitha Fernando (3-18) and Timm van der Gugten (3-33) tore through Kent's second effort. They were bowled out for 176 after following on 337 runs behind, Tawanda Muyeye's 41 the top score.Glamorgan claimed all 10 wickets in a lengthy afternoon session for their first triumph of 2025 and one of their biggest ever championship wins.Injury-hit Kent were bowled out for 212 first time round despite Chris Benjamin's unbeaten 94 leading some late resistance. It was their second defeat after winning two of their first three matches.
The home side resumed with a mountain to climb at 156-8 in their first innings, and although George Garrett edged Fernando over the slips, the tail-ender dominated the early scoring in a stand of 54.They lasted 52 minutes before Garrett, on 35, edged Zain Ul Hassan behind, and the seamer then bowled Kashif Ali for three leaving former Warwickshire wicketkeeper Benjamin frustratingly stranded six short of a first ton for his new county. Harry Finch and Ben Compton defended quietly until lunch but after the break Finch hit the first three balls from Ul Hassan for four, only to lose partner Compton lbw to Fernando for 17.Kent's top order fell apart for the second time in the game as Daniel Bell-Drummond edged Andy Gorvin to a diving Kiran Carlson at slip and Finch (28) edged Fernando through to Chris Cooke.A bizarre interruption saw most of the players and umpires hit the deck briefly as a bee swarm was sighted, not helping Jack Leaning's concentration as he was caught behind off Fernando next ball. Ekansh Singh, 18, was on a pair but squirted one past short-leg to get off the mark to knowledgeable applause from the Kent faithful, managing one boundary before providing Cooke with another catch off van der Gugten. The Netherlands international then disposed of Benjamin and Grant Stewart before top scorer Muyeye was trapped lbw by James Harris and Matt Parkinson hammered a return catch to Ben Kellaway. As the afternoon session was extended, a slightly farcical end saw the visitors turn to double spin to improve their over-rate and last man Kashif slammed Kiran Carlson for three sixes. He holed out to Gorvin on the mid-wicket boundary for 32 and that was that with four sessions to spare.

'Can't see any downsides' - your views on Walker-Peters

We asked for your views on Kyle Walker-Peters, who has joined the Hammers on a free. Here are some of your comments:Tom: Solid signing. With the departures of Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell, KWP will provide much needed cover in the full-back positions for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and new boy El Hadji Diouf. Joining on a free with Premier League experience? Even I think we needed some depth following Vladi's departure and Walker-Peters fits the bill. Good free Very happy. Will give good competition to Wan-Bissaka and Diouf and may even start a few while Diouf beds in. Hopefully being a freebie means there's a big-money midfielder and a big money forward on the Has to be a great signing. Gives us strength in depth in the back line and he is a proven Premiership player. Can't see any He is a Potter type of player and a good, versatile addition to the squad, particularly as a free Absolutely. It's clear we have depth to add with all the outgoings so can't argue with a Prem-calibre player on a free. Not only that but with two wing-backs at Afcon in the winter, we need the Definitely good business: proven Prem player and was Southampton's best player last term. Let's hope he performs like AWB!Bradderthehammer: Great free signing - in fact I'd have paid money for him. Saw him play us twice last season and he was the best player on the park in the second game. Now we need some legs in No cost except wages, good business, decent player and good back-up for Aaron Wan-Bisska.

Transfer news live: Rashford heading to Barcelona, Arsenal face Gyokeres twist, Liverpool's Ekitike interest

The summer transfer window rolls on as Premier League clubs and those around Europe look to add to their squads ahead of the 2025/26 season. Arsenal 's negotiations for Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres had stalled due to a difference in valuation and terms, though the Gunners are confident of completing a move they could face late competition from Manchester United who are considered a late push for the forward. Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze remains a target, but Arsenal are set to leave on their pre-season tour of Asia without completing the deal for a new striker. Man Utd continue to focus on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo and have now agreed a fee for the Brentford forward who will complete a medical. The club is now focused on outgoings as Marcus Rashford looks set for a loan move to Barcelona while Jadon Sancho is drawing interest from Juventus. Elsewhere, Liverpool are in advanced talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over Hugo Ekitike. The former Paris Saint-Germain player has a €100m (£86m) release clause and it is expected that Ekitike would want to make the switch to Anfield and that personal terms could be agreed with the 23-year-old. Newcastle are also interested in the forward but are prioritising keeping Alexander Isak on the books after the striker has received interest from clubs around Europa. Will Arsenal face Viktor Gyokeres twist? Arsenal are said to be closing in on a deal for Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners were expected to pay a fixed fee of £55m (€63.5m), while add-ons were still being finalised and could reach up to £8.6m (€10m). However, reports in Portugal say Manchester United have now made a bid for the striker roughly in the same ball park as Arsenals. Gyokeres is adamant he wants a move to the Emirates Stadium and has been pushing for it this summer but a late twist could see him joining up with his former boss Ruben Amorim instead. Mike Jones21 July 2025 07:28 Bryan Mbeumo to complete Manchester United medical Manchester United have almost got their deal for Bryan Mbeumo over the line. A £65m plus add ons bid for Mbeumo was accepted by Brentford and the forward will now undergo a medical before Ruben Amorim takes his squad to the USA for their pre-season tour. The 25-year-old winger is set to become United's third signing of the summer after the arrivals of forward Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon. Mbeumo, who joined the Bees in 2019 from Troyes, will become Brentford's biggest ever sale. Mike Jones21 July 2025 07:21 Marcus Rashford heading to Barcelona Marcus Rashford is seemingly on the move to La Liga both figuratively and literally. Rashford posted a photo of himself on a private plane with the caption: 'Downtime' as rumours abound over an exit from Manchester United. The forward has interest from Barcelona and looks set to complete a year-long loan move with the Spanish giants who will have an option to buy included in the contract. Barcelona have allegedly agreed to cover all of Rashford's £375,000 per week wages and, though United prefer a permanent move, they have agreed to this deal. Mike Jones21 July 2025 07:15
