Nine-man Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in a fierce Club World Cup quarter-final overshadowed by a suspected severe leg injury of Bayern's Jamal Musiala on Saturday.
Desire Doue opened the scoring into the bottom right corner in the 78th after Harry Kane lost the ball, six weeks after also shining with two goals in the 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
Substitute Ousmane Dembele wrapped up matters deep into stoppage time, after the French champions had lost Willian Pacho for a reckless challenge against Leon Goretzka in the 81st, and Lucas Hernandez earlier in stoppage time for elbowing Raphael Guerreiro.
Kane headed home in the 87th but was offside, and substitute Thomas Müller could also not help in what was his final Bayern game after 25 years at the club with dozens of titles and icon status.
Musiala meanwhile suffered a suspected left leg fracture, according to dpa sources, in a scramble for the ball with Pancho and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on the last play of the first half.
Players from both sides looked distraught as German international Musiala, who was making his first start since a muscle injury sustained three months ago, was stretchered off the pitch.
While Bayern's campaign is now over, PSG move on into a semi-final against record Champions League winners Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund, who complete the quarter-finals later Saturday in a rematch of last year's European final.
'Moments decide these games, you win or you lose. We never gave up but that's football,' Bayern midfielder Konrad Laimer told streaming portal DAZN.
Looking at the Musiala injury, he said: 'It hurts a lot to lose a player like him. You could see in the first half what a fantastic player he is.'
Muller said: 'It is brutally bitter. We are not robots, we have personal relationships. I wish him a good recovery.'
He also suggested that it will take a while for him to realise that his Bayern career is now over for good: 'It is a very strange situation. You expect to go back to the hotel to approach the next round and now to have to pack your suitcases.'
PSG had the first chance when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won the ball in Bayern's half and Doué aimed wide left from a distance.
Donnarumma needed a full-stretch serve against Michael Olise's attempt from a right angle in the 26th, and Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer was called into action five minutes later when he stuck out his left arm against a shot from Kvaratskhelia who had burst into the Bayern area from the left.
But Bayern remained dangerous as Harry Kane headed over and Donnarumma needed another big save against Aleksandar Pavlovic's goal bound ball which was just missed by Musiala.
The ball was in PSG's net from Dayot Upamecano's header off a free kick, but the defender was offside shortly before the end of the half which ended tragically with the Musiala injury.
Bradley Barcola forced Neuer to another big save shortly after the restart, but the Bayern keeper then almost gifted PSG the lead in the 74th.
Neuer came out of his penalty area but his clearance hit Kvaratskhelia, the ball bounced to Dembelé, who had come on a little earlier, but with Neuer sliding in he aimed his shot inches wide.
However, PSG were finally ahead in the 78th when they attacked down the right after Kane lost the ball, with Doué drilling home from the edge of the area and Neuer stranded.
That ignited a turbulent finale in which Pancho first got his marching orders, Kane's header was disallowed, Hernandez was also dismissed, Dembele clinched matters seconds after hitting the crossbar, and Bayern had a very late penalty nullified upon review.

Alcaraz sweeps aside last British hope Norrie

PA Media/DPA London British singles hopes at Wimbledon ended for another year with a straight-sets loss for Cameron Norrie against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. Norrie had hoped to become just the third home player in the open era to defeat a men's title holder at Wimbledon after Roger Taylor and Tim Henman but succumbed to a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 defeat in just an hour and 39 minutes. It has nevertheless been an excellent fortnight for the 29-year-old, who almost dropped out of the top 100 earlier this season three years after reaching the semi-finals here and has shown he can be a factor again. Alcaraz, meanwhile, will take on Taylor Fritz in the last four on Friday as he continues his bid to make it three titles in a row at the All England Club. World No. 5, Fritz overcame a medical time-out to defeat Russian 17th seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4). After winning a 23rd successive match, the five-time grand slam winner Alcaraz said: 'I am really happy. To be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon is really special.' Norrie, who got into a heated discussion with his previous opponent Nicolas Jarry over his vocal celebrations, let out a big cry of 'come on' after holding serve in the opening game, and promptly created four break points in the second. But Alcaraz saved them all. A double fault gave the second seed a break for 2-1, and he made it four games in a row with a forehand pass hooked improbably on to the baseline. Alcaraz was enjoying himself and it took the Spaniard just 28 minutes to wrap up the first set. Norrie, who had won two of his last three meetings with Alcaraz, was playing against someone with more clubs in his bag, and another precision drop shot from the 22-year-old gave him a third break of the match in the third game of the second set. Norrie fought hard to hold on to his serve in the early stages of the third set, and then saved a match point at 2-5, but it was simply delaying the inevitable.

Tchouameni urges Madrid to show quality against PSG

PAMedia/DPA London Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni says Real Madrid are not ready to return home from the Club World Cup just yet. The France international, who joined Madrid from Monaco during the summer of 2022, will rub shoulders with some familiar faces when they go head-to-head with Champions League winners Paris St Germain in the semi-finals at the MetLife Stadium in New York on Wednesday evening. PSG are chasing a famous quadruple having already claimed a domestic double and the European crown, but Tchouameni is determined that it will be they rather than the Spanish side, who will be heading home prematurely. He told RM Play: 'We're delighted to be in the semi-finals, but we want more. We have to win the game against PSG and we're going to give our all, fight to win to stay in the competition. 'PSG are a good team with a lot of players I know personally. They're a top team in world football, recently winning the Champions League. 'It's going to be a difficult game, but we have the quality to win it and we have to show that.' Xabi Alonso's men will have to cope without summer signing Dean Huijsen, who is suspended after being sent off during a chaotic conclusion to Saturday night's 3-2 quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund. The former Madrid and Liverpool midfielder's reign is still in its infancy after he replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the helm just weeks before the competition got under way. However, Tchouameni revealed Alonso is gradually making his presence felt. He said: 'Day by day, we understand more and more what the coach and his staff want. We're improving on and off the pitch in every game. We have to keep working and improving.' If Alonso has a decision to make over Huijsen's replacement, opposite number Luis Enrique has holes to plug in his team and on the bench. Central defender Willian Pacho and substitute Lucas Hernandez were both dismissed in an eventful ending to PSG's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the last eight. Striker Ousmane Dembele, who left Barcelona for Paris two summers ago, scored the second goal after coming off the bench as he works his way back to full fitness after injury at the end of what has been a remarkable season. He told the club's YouTube channel: 'This is what I wanted. I signed for PSG to have moments like this. 'This year has been exceptional, both personally and collectively, so it's magnificent.'

Germany need Musiala to recover and deliver ‘brilliant moments': Sane

dpa Munich Leroy Sane hailed Germany team-mate Jamal Musiala as a difference maker as he wished his former Bayern Munich colleague a speedy recovery. The 22-year-old broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle in Bayern's 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. The playmaker will now be out for several months. Sane will be one of the candidates to fill in for him for Germany in upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but he can no longer replace Musiala for Bayern after recently leaving for Galatasaray. 'I really hope he recovers soon. Bayern and the national team need him and his brilliant moments,' the 29-year-old told Sky. 'He was just on his way to becoming 100% fit again, and then this... I feel so incredibly sorry for him. It's so frustrating.' Musiala underwent successful surgery on Monday. 'I watched the game live on TV,' Sane said. 'The scene didn't look good at all after the first replay. Unfortunately, you could already sense that it would mean a longer recovery period. It's unbelievably bitter. I was stunned at first.'
