With AI video, Trump's radical campaign against Obama takes a deranged turn

Donald Trump's weird preoccupation with Joe Biden is well documented. An analysis conducted by The New York Times, for example, found that during the first 50 days of the Republican president's second term, he mentioned 'Biden' an average of 6.32 times per day. The Times' report added, 'It is among his most frequently used terms (he said 'Biden' in more speeches than he had said 'America,' for example).' By his 100-day mark, according to NBC News, Trump had spoken about Biden, his family or his administration at least 580 times either in public remarks or on his social media platform. But as the Republican nears his 200-day mark, he's starting to focus far less on his immediate Democratic predecessor and much more on his other Democratic predecessor. Ten days ago, for example, Trump published an odd missive in which he said Barack Obama was at least partially responsible for 'creating' the Jeffrey Epstein files, which was bonkers for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that former Democratic president had already been out of office for years when the Trump administration investigated, arrested and charged the late millionaire pedophile. This week, the Republican also declared that 'Obama himself manufactured the Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX,' which was every bit as ridiculous. Between the two absurdities, Trump also amplified a fake video that appears to have been created with AI that depicts Obama being arrested in the Oval Office. The New York Times reported: The fake video purports to show F.B.I. agents bursting into the meeting, pushing Mr. Obama into a kneeling position and putting him in handcuffs as Mr. Trump looks on smiling, while the song 'Y.M.C.A.' by the Village People plays. Later, the fake video shows Mr. Obama in an orange jumpsuit pacing in a cell. The start of the video shows a compilation of actual footage of Democratic leaders, including Mr. Obama and former President Joseph R. Biden Jr., saying, 'no one is above the law.' This coincided with Trump also promoting fake mugshots of Obama and his team wearing prison jumpsuits. If this sounds at all familiar, that's because during Trump's 2024 candidacy, while obsessing over Obama, the then-Republican candidate used his social media platform to promote a photo of the former Democratic president alongside text that called for 'public military tribunals.' It's worth emphasizing that there's literally zero evidence of Obama having done anything wrong in connection with Trump's Epstein and Russia scandals, and the suggestion that the Democratic president would be arrested because of Trump's controversies is insane, even by 2025 standards. What's more, it's very easy to believe that the incumbent Republican president is peddling this garbage in the hope of creating distractions and shifting blame away from himself. But if that's the case, why not just ignore Trump's obvious absurdities? Because of an unfortunate truth: Just because his anti-Obama crusade is a distraction doesn't mean nothing will happen. On the contrary, it's very easy to believe that Trump — who's already directed the Justice Department to investigate Biden — might very well take the same step with Obama. Justice Dept. Reaches Out to Ghislaine Maxwell, a Longtime Epstein Associate

Top Justice Department officials have contacted lawyers representing Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein who is serving a prison term for sex trafficking, to address lingering questions about the case that have fueled a furious right-wing backlash. Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, announced on social media early Tuesday that he had requested a meeting with the disgraced former socialite, Mr. Epstein's loyal co-conspirator and enabler who also interacted with the rich and powerful men he courted — included President Trump. 'I have communicated with counsel for Ms. Maxwell to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department,' Mr. Blanche wrote on social media. 'If Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say,' he wrote, misspelling Ms. Maxwell's first name and adding that he was acting on Mr. Trump's instruction to release all 'credible' evidence. The announcement came hours before a major committee in the Republican-controlled House voted to subpoena Ms. Maxwell, and days after The Wall Street Journal reported that Mr. Trump sent Mr. Epstein a salacious birthday greeting in 2003 in which he expressed close friendship. The overture is the latest in a flurry of frantic efforts by Trump subordinates intended to quell a political crisis precipitated by Attorney General Pam Bondi's announcement earlier this month that she was shutting down the Epstein investigation. The unexpected furor over the case forced the Republican-controlled Congress to confront a divisive political crisis in the middle of a victory lap after the passage of Mr. Trump's signature domestic policy bill. House Republicans have been stymied from advancing an immigration bill and a rollback of Biden-era regulations after Democrats on a critical panel threatened to force a vote on an Epstein-related measure It is not clear how, or when, the department would release any information about an interview with Ms. Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison after a jury in Manhattan convicted her of sex trafficking and other crimes in 2022. Reporting was contributed by Abbie VanSickle, Michael Gold and Adam Goldman from Washington and Matthew Goldstein from New York.

Anti-ICE attackers revealed to have extensive history of radical protest activities

Some members of the group charged in the Prairieland Detention Center anti-ICE attack on Independence Day have been arrested in the past for protest activities. Ines Soto, who is part of the group of ten charged with attempted murder of federal officers and firearm offenses, was arrested at a protest in 2016 for allegedly resisting arrest and trying to avoid detention, according to K-HOU 11 at the time. The protest was against a speech by Richard Spencer at Texas A&M University. The outlet My Aggie Nation noted that Soto was 31 in 2016, which corroborates with a KERA News report stating that Soto is now 40 years old and was released on a $10,000 bond. Meanwhile, KERA News reported that Savanna Batten partook in the Occupy Wall Street movement through an "Occupy Dallas" protest in 2011, where she was arrested for allegedly not allowing people to come and go from a Chase Bank. The case was ultimately dismissed, as a criminal trespassing charge was scrapped in exchange for 24 community service hours, the outlet reported. Batten also specifically has a history of anti-ICE activism, as she was charged for allegedly blocking a highway in June 2018 near a Dallas ICE facility, and the charge for that was also dismissed in 2019 as part of a program. Fox News Digital reported last week that Benjamin Song, who was captured by the FBI last week, had a known protest background. He was named in a 2023 lawsuit over a counter-protest to the New Columbia Movement at a drag brunch in Fort Worth, Texas. The lawsuit noted Song was tied with a pro-arms leftist group, the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club. In addition, he was also arrested in 2020 during a protest in Austin for allegedly assaulting a public servant, according to Fox 4. Song's social media profiles also indicated that he was extremely vocal online about his stances and activism, and also appeared to use a martial arts studio tied to his mother to film tactical exercises. "Do you want to end mass shootings? Abolish the police," he posted in June 2022 under the X handle, BubbleBreakBS. Song, a former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, is accused of firing two AR-15-style rifles at two correctional officers and one Alvarado police officer, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Fox News Digital. "Make no mistake, this was not a peaceful protest," Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson said in a July 8 statement. "This was an ambush on federal and local law enforcement officers. This increasing trend of violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated in the Northern District of Texas. Those who use violence against law enforcement officers will be found and prosecuted using the toughest criminal statutes and penalties available." A local police officer was shot in the neck by a suspect in the woods, according to the complaint. Another assailant allegedly fired dozens of rounds at unarmed correctional officers who had stepped outside the facility. Cars outside the facility were vandalized with "Ice pig" and "Traitor," as authorities obtained anti-government literature from those involved, as well as a flag that said "Fight Fascism, Fight Oligarchy."
