Woman arrested after Osborne Village bear spray spree
Six people were randomly assaulted by a woman using bear spray in attacks that began around 7:30 a.m., police said in a Thursday news release.
The woman first sprayed a driver through the window of their vehicle when it was stopped at the intersection of Stradbrook Avenue and Donald Street, according to police. A short time later, a woman riding her bicycle in the area of Donald Street and Bell Avenue was approached by the woman and also assaulted with bear spray.
Soon after, another woman who was waiting for a bus at the corner of River Avenue and Donald Street was approached by the woman and bear sprayed, police say.
Later, a fourth person walking to a bus stop at River Avenue and Donald Street encountered the woman sitting on the ground and was also bear sprayed, the police news release said.
Soon after that, two women walking in the area of River Avenue and Mayfair Place saw a woman chasing someone. The woman chasing the other person stopped, and assaulted the two other women with bear spray.
The person being chased has not been identified, and it's not known if they were also sprayed, police said.
West District general patrol officers were contacted and the 20-year-old woman was arrested in the 200 block of River Avenue, near Donald Street, police said.
She has been charged with six counts of assault with a weapon, one count of possession of a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
The 20-year-old was detained in custody.
Police say their investigation is ongoing, and they believe more people who were affected may not yet have been identified. They encouraged anyone who wants to speak to an investigator to call Winnipeg police at 204-986-2842.

Bryan Kohberger to Be Sentenced in Killing of 4 Idaho Students
Bryan Kohberger, a former Ph.D. student in criminology who pleaded guilty in the fatal stabbing of four University of Idaho students, will hear from the victims' families in court for the first time on Wednesday as a judge considers his sentence for the crimes. Mr. Kohberger, 30, has already agreed to accept four consecutive life sentences as part of a plea deal that allows him to avoid the death penalty. But many questions remain unanswered, including one that has vexed investigators and families for years: What was the motive? Prosecutors have said Mr. Kohberger had no known relationship to the victims, and even President Trump urged the judge in the case to press for answers before sentencing. 'I hope the Judge makes Kohberger, at a minimum, explain why he did these horrible murders,' Mr. Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Monday. 'There are no explanations, there is no NOTHING.' Family members of the students will have a chance to address the court, an emotional conclusion to a case that created fear across the small college town where the murders occurred and elicited sympathy nationwide for the students whose lives were cut short. Some family members have expressed outrage that prosecutors agreed to drop their bid for the death penalty in exchange for the guilty plea. Mr. Kohberger was a student at nearby Washington State University when the murders occurred sometime around 4 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2022. The victims — Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Ethan Chapin, 20 — had spent a typical Saturday night out near their campus before returning to the three-story house that several of the students shared. Two roommates survived the night. Text messages show that they discussed a masked person one of them had briefly seen inside the home, but neither seemed aware that something so horrific has happened. A 911 call was made more than seven hours later after several additional friends gathered at the home. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Residents return home after bomb threat evacuation
Dozens of people have been allowed to return home after a bomb threat forced police to evacuate 63 properties. Residents living in and near South Liberty Lane in Ashton Vale, south Bristol, were told to leave on Tuesday evening following reports a man had access to potentially explosive items. A suspect was arrested at 19:10 BST on Tuesday and a bomb disposal team was deployed, Avon and Somerset Police said. Residents were allowed to return home just after 03:00 BST when a precautionary 100m (328ft) cordon was lifted. A report was initially made of a man acting suspiciously at an address on South Liberty Lane, police said. A spokesperson for the force added that enquiries that led to the suspect's arrest are ongoing, and a police presence would remain in the area. Ashton Vale Community Centre in Risdale Road opened to support affected residents, with about 50 people attending while they waited for updates. They were later told they would not be allowed back to their homes on Tuesday evening, and were asked to find somewhere to stay or ask the council for assistance. Sophie Rose, who has lived in the area for 27 years, said on Tuesday she had been told very little information from police and was "scared and tired". Risdale Road resident Peter Poland said he had been told to leave his home at about 19:15 and had seen emergency services at the scene, including armed police. Describing the atmosphere at the community centre, he said: "These guys have been amazing, there's the community spirit and we've won the football so all good."
