Samridhi@Kochi canteen to be opened at GDCA headquarters in Kadavanthra
ochi: Taking a cue from the success of Samridhi@Kochi canteen, operated by Kochi corporation and Kudumbashree, GCDA will also replicate it at its headquarters in Kadavanthra.
Mayor M Anilkumar will inaugurate the new outlet on GCDA premises on Monday.
The first canteen unit of Samridhi@Kochi, which provides food to public at a subsidized rate, has been successfully functioning at Ernakulam North. The project was initiated with the motto 'hunger-free city', under the joint leadership of Kochi corporation and district Kudumbashree mission. The project aims to provide quality and tasty food at affordable prices while also offering a livelihood to a group of Kudumbashree workers.
Main attraction of the canteen is the traditional dishes prepared using locally available ingredients in hygienic conditions. Samridhi@Kochi has gained significant popularity in various parts of the city, officials associated with the project said.
"Breakfast, lunch, snacks, tea and coffee will all be available at the new canteen at very reasonable prices," said a GCDA official.
"Development of a city is not limited to construction of buildings and roads. It also includes social and economic upliftment of its people. This collaboration with Samridhi, which combines women's empowerment and social commitment, is a crucial step by GCDA towards that goal," GCDA chairman K Chandran Pillai said.

KSUM's Innovation Festival shifts focus beyond startups and tech
One of the more noticeable additions is a flea market that features climate-conscious brands and circular economy models. The programming here is being shaped in part by Maatam, a Kochi-based collective working at the intersection of design, sustainability, and storytelling. 'The future of sustainability is through technology. But, of course, we want to showcase to all, especially those who push at the limits of technology, what's possible, even if it's small-scale,' says Visakha G Raj of Maatam. 'At the end of the day, you don't need to be a brand or a business to participate in climate action. You could be someone who composts, someone who repairs clothes, etc. That's also design thinking. That's also innovation,' she adds. In addition, two discussions are also planned. Titled 'What Can I Do?' and 'What Can We Do?', these bring together climate communicators, renewable energy practitioners, behavioural design experts and community architects to explore both individual and systemic responses to climate concerns. 'We've done product demos, pitch sessions, and investor meets. We'll continue to do those,' said a senior KSUM official. 'But there's growing interest among founders and students alike to understand how their work connects to the bigger picture.'

Decks cleared for land pooling for Infopark phase III expansion in Kerala
KOCHI: With the state government issuing an order instructing the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) to pool 300 acres of land in Kizhakkambalam for Infopark's Phase III expansion, the space-starved IT park can now breathe easy. According to Chandran Pillai, GCDA chairman, decks have been cleared with regard to land pooling. 'Earlier, we didn't get the go-ahead from the chief minister's office. Then there was the problem associated with the approval from Kizhakkambalam panchayat. We got that too,' he said, adding that the GCDA team associated with the land pooling will now study similar cases, like the Amaravati model. 'This is a first-of-its-kind step in the state. We don't have a precedent. We are studying the Amaravati model and others. Careful study needs to be done before we begin the process,' Chandran said. Discussions will also have to be held with the IT and revenue departments, as well as the district collector to hammer out the nitty-gritties of the procedure, he said. 'However, the fact we have got the green signal is a big step forward in terms of the Infopark Phase III project. Envisaged as a township it is a prestigious project for the city and also much-needed, since we have a queue of companies wanting to set up offices at the IT park,' Chandran said. In the 10 years encompassing two tenures of Pinarayi Vijayan government, 352 new firms launched their offices in Phases I and II, creating over 73,500 jobs, said an Infopark official. The city's IT sector has seen a steady growth since the inception of Infopark, from 100 acres with four companies in 2004 to 583 companies in 2025 -- tech giant IBM Software's Ecosystem Incubation Centre (EIC) being the latest entry. Started as a small unit providing employment to close to 100 people, IBM has grown exponentially in the last three years to grant jobs to over 35,000 IT professionals.
