The Big Launch: OnePlus And Samsung Set For A Big Phone Week
Samsung and OnePlus have got their big events coming up this week, but there's more in the pipeline that will get people excited.
July has already been a busy month for the smartphone market with brands like Nothing, Oppo and Tecno among others launching their new products in the space of 7 days. But the big ticket launches are still coming and you have got brands like Samsung and OnePlus offering their presence in the busy period and getting people excited for the new products. We're not talking about basic and regular devices, these are some of the popular models from both the brands, and one of them includes a foldable lineup.
OnePlus Nord 5 Series
OnePlus Nord 5 is launching in India and global markets this week, promising a host of new products from the brand added to its lineup. The launch event on Tuesday, July 8 will have a split focus with two markets in mind.
The company is bringing a new OnePlus Pad model as well as the OnePlus Buds 4 but most of the emphasis will be around the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 models, upgrading from the Nord 4 series launched in 2024.
OnePlus Nord 5 is going to be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset even though the 8s Gen 4 is already available in the market. The new model is also going to come with a large vapour cooling tech and support for 144 FPS on BGMI and COD Mobile games.
Going by the launch teaser, the Nord 5 and CE 5 should get a dual rear camera system and the latter is confirmed to pack a mammoth 7,100mAh battery. OnePlus should also offer 80W charging speed for these devices, similar to the Nord 4 models and keep them priced aggressively within Rs 30,000 in the market.
The Buds 4 is also getting some attention these days and the brand has teased some of the ANC features and even the design/fit of the Buds across its channels. It also gets AI translation with a tap on the buds along with roll over controls.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch week is finally here and the company will also unveil the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 model as well as the Galaxy Watch 8 series. But it seems the brand has another big product lined up for the big Unpacked event, and this could be the affordable version of the Flip device.
Samsung has been in the foldable business for much longer than most brands, and it is high time we see a product that shows its evolution and brings a product that has the potential to go mainstream.
According to a tipster, the FE Flip phone could be powered by the same Exynos chipset as the premium Galaxy S24 series. We are eager to see how aggressive the brand is ready to go with the FE Flip model, and whether it can deliver a product with a price tag that convinces people to buy and get more of them interested in the form factor.
AI+ Budget Phones
Amongst these biggest you an all-new AI+ brand unveiling its first smartphones in the budget range called Pulse and Nova 5G. The launch of these devices in India is on July 8 at 12:30 PM. These smartphones will be available through online channels. The upcoming device is built on nxtQ's NxtQuantum OS, which aims to offer a focused hardware and camera experience. The brand is making tall claims about its data being stored on MeitY-certified servers that are hosted on Google Cloud in India. These devices are expected to start under Rs. 5,000 which gives it an exciting highlight and one worth keeping an eye on.

OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 India launch today at 2PM: Leaked specs and prices
OnePlus is gearing up to introduce two new smartphones, Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 in India today, with the official launch scheduled to go live at 2:00PM. The event will be streamed on the company's YouTube channel and is part of a broader global unveiling that also includes a new smartwatch, a lighter tablet, and fresh TWS earbuds. While OnePlus has kept much of the official information under wraps, several leaks over the past few weeks have already given users a fairly clear picture of what to expect from the new Nord lineup. Both phones are positioned for the mid-range market and could prove compelling options if the rumoured specifications hold Nord 5: What we know so farThe Nord 5 is likely to turn heads with its unusually large 7,000mAh battery, which could appeal strongly to users who rely heavily on their phones throughout the day for work, entertainment, or gaming. Fast charging is also part of the package, with reports suggesting 100W wired support, making it one of the fastest-charging phones in its the hood, the Nord 5 is confirmed to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is expected to bring a noticeable performance jump over the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 used in the Nord 4. The display is also getting some attention, with leaks pointing to a flat OLED panel offering 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen size is expected to be close to 6.74 inches, or perhaps even a bit more due to the larger battery footprint. In terms of design, the phone may adopt a simpler, cleaner look, moving away from the dual-tone back of previous models. A vertical pill-shaped camera housing is likely, and colour options may include pale blue and off-white. For build materials, OnePlus could use a glass back with a plastic frame, a change that may help reduce costs and weight but could slightly affect the premium feel. The camera setup isn't expected to see big changes. Some reports indicate a 50-megapixel main rear camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 16-megapixel front camera. The improvements, if any, may come in image processing rather than Nord CE 5: Slightly lower price, still loadedThe Nord CE 5 is aimed at a more affordable price range and is expected to include a 6.7-inch OLED display with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device could be the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It's also expected to feature a 7,100mAh battery, with slightly slower 80W fast charging, which still keeps it ahead of many phones in the segment. Camera specifications are expected to mirror the Nord 5 with a 50-megapixel main rear sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. For selfies, we could see a 16-megapixel front launches: Watch, tablet, and budsOnePlus is also set to unveil a smaller smartwatch, likely to be called the OnePlus Watch 3 (43mm). The device is expected to feature a 1.32-inch display and a more compact, lighter build than the original 46mm new entry-level tablet, likely branded OnePlus Pad Lite, is also expected to make its debut, though specific details about its specifications remain unclear. The company may also announce the OnePlus Buds 4, which was earlier launched in Nord 5, Nord CE 5: Expected price in IndiaPricing will be a key factor for both phones. The OnePlus Nord 5 is likely to stick to a sub-Rs 30,000 tag, similar to its predecessor. If the leaks turn out to be accurate, this could make it one of the most powerful options in its category. The Nord CE 5, with slightly toned-down internals, may be priced around Rs 25,000, potentially making it a strong pick in the lower-midrange segment. Samsung flags big miss in second-quarter profit, citing U.S. AI chip curbs on China
Samsung Electronics on Tuesday projected a 56% drop in second-quarter operating profit from a year earlier, far worse than analysts expected as its sales of artificial intelligence chips slowed in the United States and China. The world's largest memory chipmaker blamed the profit miss on U.S. restrictions on advanced AI chips for China, but analysts said the earnings slump was also due to delays in supplying chips to key U.S. customer Nvidia. Samsung said in a statement on Tuesday that its improved high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products were undergoing customer evaluation and proceeding with shipments, without elaborating further. "The DS Division recorded a quarter-on-quarter decline in profit due to inventory value adjustments and the impact of U.S. restrictions on advanced AI chips for China," Samsung said in a statement. Samsung estimated an operating profit of 4.6 trillion won for the April-June period, versus a 6.2 trillion won LSEG SmartEstimate. That would be its weakest in six quarters, down from 10.4 trillion won in the same period a year earlier and 6.7 trillion won in the preceding quarter. Revenue would likely fall 0.1% to 74 trillion won from a year earlier, the filing showed. The earnings miss will fuel investor doubts about Samsung's fundamentals, although its earnings are expected to recover gradually in the third quarter helped by rising sales of HBM chips to non-Nvidia customers and new phone launches, said Greg Roh, head of research at Hyundai Motor Securities. "The worse-than-expected profit will be negative for investor sentiment," he said. Samsung said earnings in its foundry business also fell, driven by sales restrictions and related inventory value adjustments stemming from U.S. export controls on advanced AI chips for China, as well as continued low utilisation rates. Last year, the U.S. ordered Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co to halt shipments of advanced chips to Chinese customers that are often used in AI applications, Reuters reported. Samsung said it expects the operating loss in its foundry business to narrow in the second half of the year as utilisation improves in line with a gradual recovery in demand. The company is expected to release detailed results including a breakdown of earnings for each of its businesses in late July.
