Shimla: Chief minister
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
on Monday directed the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (
HPSEBL
) to implement a comprehensive strategy, such as feeder metering, to accurately assess
power losses
and curb
electricity theft
in the state.
Presiding over a meeting of the officers of the state electricity board and energy department, Sukhu said the officers need to take every measure to check power losses. He further directed the authorities to carry out feeder-wise mapping of all commercial, industrial, and domestic consumers so that the entire information was available at a single click.
Sukhu also asked for providing an option by April 30 to all the officers and officials of the HPSEBL currently serving on deputation in the Directorate of Energy, Himachal Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation, and the Power Corporation.
The staff of the civil wing can also opt to go to the public works department (PWD) and other departments, he added.

The employees will be governed by the existing terms and conditions, and there will be no impact on their promotions and other benefits. The state govt will also amend the necessary policies to ensure that all benefits are protected, said Sukhu.
He further said the HPSEBL would be strengthened by filling up 2,000 posts of T-mates and linesmen in the coming months in order to streamline the functioning of the organisation.
The CM also reviewed the progress of the 450 megawatt (MW) Shong-Tong Power Project and instructed the officers concerned to ensure the timely completion of the project. The state govt has set a target to complete the Shong-Tong Power Project by Nov 2026.
He also directed planning for power evacuation once the project was functional to prevent monetary losses. Sukhu further instructed the transfer of officials serving in industrial areas for a longer span to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

‘Not going to rush': Ahead of Trump's tariff deadline, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent shares update; says ‘more concerned about…'

The US will not fast-track trade deals simply to meet deadlines, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said, signalling that the Trump administration remains focused on securing high-quality agreements even as a key tariff deadline approaches. In an interview with CNBC, Bessent stated, 'The Trump administration is more concerned with the quality of trade agreements rather than their timing. We're not going to rush for the sake of doing deals.' The remarks come ahead of the August 1 deadline, when tariffs on several US trade partners could kick in if talks fail to yield progress, according to an ET report. While describing the ongoing negotiations as 'moving along,' Bessent warned that failure to reach agreements could escalate trade tensions. 'If we boomerang on August 1 tariffs, higher tariffs could put more pressure on countries,' he said. Allies under pressure as US sticks to its terms Bessent pointed to growing engagement from the European Union, noting, 'They've become more engaged,' and said he expects Brussels may aim to speed up negotiations. 'I imagine they would want to negotiate faster,' he added. On Japan, Bessent clarified that Washington's focus remains firmly on securing the best outcomes for the US, not adapting to domestic political calendars in partner countries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'Our priorities are not internal government but best deals for U.S.,' he said. Despite the approaching deadline, Bessent expressed confidence in the ongoing discussions. 'Trade is in a good place,' he said. Russia tariffs tied to political goals Touching on Russia, Bessent acknowledged that tariff measures can go beyond trade. 'Tariffs can be a means to political ends,' he said, referring to current conversations around sanctions. He also hinted at a possible joint strategy with allies, saying, 'Would urge Europe to follow us if we implement secondary tariffs,' without naming affected sectors or timelines. China discussions may restart, focus on overcapacity and oil On China, Bessent said talks could resume 'in the near future,' but flagged overcapacity as the primary concern. 'The elephant in the room with China is overcapacity,' he said, mentioning steel and solar as key pressure points. He also pointed to two new areas of concern that may enter future negotiations—Beijing's trade ties with Russia and its stance on Iranian oil. 'Could start talking about Iranian oil,' Bessent said, while adding that the US 'could discuss [China's] trade with Russia' as part of broader diplomatic talks. Serena's 23 Grand Slam titles, combined with her booming business ventures post‑retirement, have propelled her net worth into the hundreds of millions. Serena has raked in approximately $94.8 million in career prize money, making her the highest-earning female athlete in tennis history. Notably, she became the first woman ever to cross the $90 million milestone in prize earnings: a feat unmatched by her peers. Venus Williams, though trailing behind her younger sister, has carved out an incredibly successful career in her own right. With a career prize purse of approximately $42.6 million ( Venus remains one of the top ten female earners in WTA history. In summary, while Venus's impressive earnings cement her as a tennis great, Serena's extraordinary winnings, often setting new records season after season, firmly secure her spot as the wealthier champion when it comes to prize money. 3. Endorsements & Sponsorships of the Williams sisters Serena has long-term endorsement contracts with Nike (a $40 million deal in 2004), Gatorade, Beats by Dre, Wilson, Gucci, and more. At her career peak, she earned up to $20 million annually from sponsors. Venus has earned approximately $30 million from endorsements with Nike, Wilson, Gatorade, Porsche and other brands . Her deals give her steady annual earnings in the $6–7 million range. Both built reputations as brand ambassadors, but Serena's multi-decade dominance has allowed her to command significantly larger sponsorships. 4. Business Ventures & Investments of Serena and Venus Williams Since launching Serena Ventures in 2017, Serena has backed over 85 companies, with 14 unicorns—private firms valued over $1 billion . She also founded S by Serena fashion line, a jewelry collection, Wyn Beauty (2024), Nine Two Six Productions, and holds minority stakes in the Miami Dolphins, Angel City FC, Toronto WNBA club, Los Angeles Golf Club, and UFC. All these diversify her income beyond prize money and enhance her net worth. Venus founded her EleVen athletic fashion line in 2007, generating about $10 million annually. She also founded V Starr Interiors, invested in companies like Human Co., Quit Genius, Ellevest, and Ghostbed. Like Serena, Venus is a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins. While both are entrepreneurs, Serena's ventures are larger in scale, but Venus maintains solid, diversified investments that further boost her wealth. 5. Assets Comparison between Serena and Venus Williams: Real Estate & Luxury Serena's assets include luxury homes in Palm Beach Gardens (Florida), Paris, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills. She previously owned a $6.7 million Beverly Hills mansion, which she sold later and has an extensive luxury-car collection, including an Aston Martin Vanquish (approximately $300k). Venus owns a $12 million beachfront estate in Palm Beach, a $4.5 million Hamptons home, and a $2.2 million residence in St. Louis. These properties reflect both strategic investment and personal heritage. Both sisters own high-value real estate and luxury assets, yet Serena's global property holdings and iconic car collection place her slightly ahead. Serena and Venus Williams are emblematic not only of tennis brilliance but of entrepreneurial excellence. Serena's dominance on court earned her record‑breaking prize money, while her post‑retirement ventures, from venture capital to entertainment, have elevated her net worth to $300–350 million. Venus, with $95 million, stands tall thanks to consistent earnings, her EleVen line, and savvy investments. Though Serena's financial empire towers in size, Venus's wealth is built on a well‑diversified foundation rooted in her passions. In the wealth race, Serena leads, but both sisters exemplify power, ambition, and business acumen—further proving that their legacy extends far beyond tennis trophies.
