Our writer ditches her razor to find out if ANSWR's exfoliating stone works

Daily Mirror26-05-2025
If you're tired of waxing or shaving, Mirror's shopping writer Grace has tested our ANSWR's exfoliating stone to see if works just as well or better for hair removal
With summer on the way and (sometimes) sunny weather already here, keeping up with hair removal and shaving your legs can be a real pain. However, I've found an answer that is totally painless, foolproof, and the perfect quick fix for days when you've forgotten and want to wear a short skirt.
Enter ANSWR's Exfoliating Hair Removal Drop. Available to shop at Debenhams for £30.44, Face The Future for £29 or currently on sale at Beauty Bay for £20.10.
I actually don't hate shaving as much as some, but anything that makes my life a little easier is something I will happily welcome, and that's exactly what this exfoliating drop does.
So, what exactly is this hair removal product? It's essentially a small stone (or drop, as it's called) that you rub against your legs and arms to remove the hair and exfoliate the skin at the same time. Painless hair removal and skincare in one product? Genius.
Pros
Painless
Easy to use
Perfect for last-minute use
Exfoliates skin at the same time
Cons
Can leave a lingering red mark if you have sensitive skin
Works better on stubble/shorter hairs
ANSWR's Exfoliating Hair Removal Drop review
One of the main selling points for me is that this drop actually exfoliates the skin, as well as removes hair. I'm a frequent fake tan user to prepping my skin beforehand is an important part of my routine, so I love how this can remove all the dead skin cells in preparation for a fresh layer of tan.
Another positive of this product is its fairly small and compact, making it easy to travel with. Most airlines don't have issues with bringing razors in hand luggage or checked bags. However, it's nice to know that I won't have any issues at all when taking this drop away with me.
PIC HERE
My main criticism is that my legs flare up slightly red for around twenty minutes after use. This is likely due to my sensitive skin, which tends to turn pinkish/red at the slightest touch. However, this does mean that if I want to use it as a last-minute fix, I will have to deal with having some red legs for the next half an hour.
Additionally, I find the drop works better on shorter hairs or stubble, rather than longer/ more stubborn leg hair that hasn't been removed in a long time. Overall, considering how easy this is to use, it's earned itself a spot in my beauty cupboard. I won't completely give up shaving or waxing, but it's nice to know I can use this on days when I have a little less energy.

Kelly Brook, 45, branded 'a natural beauty' as she shows off curves in white bikini

Former Page Three girl Kelly Brook has shared a series of photos from her holiday in Italy, after the 45-year-old retired from the modelling industry, saying she had enough of the 'male gaze' Former glamour model Kelly Brook has shown off her curves in white bikini photos as fans have praised her "natural beauty". The 45-year-old looked incredible as she sunned herself on holiday in Italy with her husband, model Jeremy Parisi. ‌ Sharing the series of snaps on Instagram, the Heart Radio host beamed as she posed against a railing, captioning her post: "Italian Summers !!! Made the Hubby take some pictures of me." ‌ Fans flooded the comments with praise for the retired model, who was hailed a "role model" for sharing the natural photos. One of her followers commented: "Thank you for showing girls what a normal (gorgeous) woman looks like. They're constantly looking at 'love island' girls!" It comes after Cat Deeley found moving back to the UK 'really hard' before split from Patrick Kielty. ‌ Another of Kelly's followers shared: "You are absolutely stunning and so natural It's also very refreshing Kelly." A third penned: "Been an absolute natural beauty from the beginning! never change! X" Others echoed their sentiments, writing: "How bloody refreshing," while another added: "This should be the role model for young girls out there. You are absolutely stunning." ‌ A sixth fan gushed: "Does this woman never age? From many years ago to now I have admired her. Not only is she a natural beauty and all woman she has the most wonderful sense of humour absolutely hilarious on times on the radio. Her husband struck gold when he married her. Stunning!!!" Kelly, who appeared on Celebrity Race Across the World with her husband Jeremy, told the Sun previously that she had enough of modelling. She told the paper: "It's very hard having been a bikini model all through my 20s and then you hit 30 and they still want me to do calendars. ‌ "I'm just not there for the male gaze any more. I'm married and I'm very happy being in my 40s." She also revealed earlier this year to the Mirror that she made the conscious decision to live a child-free lifestyle, thanks to some wise words from a family member. In the candid chat, she explained: "When I asked my grandma if she regretted anything in life, because that's what you ask octogenarians, she said - very honestly - that her biggest regret was having children." Kelly added: 'I wasn't expecting it, but she definitely said it! I think she felt that having children had taken up a lot of her life. I thought, 'What an absolutely honest, incredible answer,' and I think I needed to hear it. I was about 36 at the time and thinking, 'God, am I ever going to have children? If so, maybe I should just get on with it now?' Then I thought, 'Actually, I don't think I want them,' and hearing that somebody had regrets, and that I might not regret not having children, made me feel really happy about my choice." ‌ The media personality, who has been married to husband Jeremy for two years this month, said she's happy being a "dog mum", and likes having her freedom. She added: "As someone who's probably not going to have children, it's hard to think about regrets now, because what am I going to regret? "That I sold my house in LA to move to the UK? Well, there's nothing stopping me from moving back to LA. If I regret something, I'll just go back and change it!'

Jet2 blasted after Grans put on flight to wrong Spanish island

The pair were stunned when the pilot announced they'd be touching down in a different place. Two elderly woman have slammed holiday giant Jet2 after a shocking airport mix-up saw them put on the wrong plane — and only realised it mid-air when the captain said they were landing in the wrong place. ‌ Linda Trestrail, 69, and Wendy Russell, 71, thought they were flying off to sunny Majorca for a relaxing break. But after five separate ticket checks — including one onboard — the pair were stunned when the pilot announced they'd be touching down in Menorca instead. ‌ The pensioners, who both suffer from mobility issues and had booked special assistance, branded it a 'catalogue of disasters' and accused Jet2 of treating them worse than luggage, reports the Mirror. ‌ Linda fumed: 'You get compensation if your bags go missing — but they lost us, not the bl**dy baggage!' The pals, who both use wheelchairs, were given help through security at Bristol Airport, shown to the gate, and even directed into their seats by cabin crew before the horror realisation mid-flight. 'I burst into tears,' said Linda. 'I turned to Wendy and said, 'He said Menorca — not Majorca!' The flight attendant laughed when I told her. That's when the chaos started.' The blunder was so severe even the captain admitted he'd never seen anything like it in his career. But despite offering to personally fly them to Majorca, Linda claims Jet2 bosses overruled it 'due to security.' Wendy, who has undergone three brain surgeries and suffers from arthritis, said: 'It's terrifying how easy it was. They bang on about airport security, but two strangers got on a plane with five checks and no one noticed!' ‌ To make things worse, their luggage made it to Majorca without them — a major security breach that could've had dangerous consequences. 'Our bags flew without us. That's terrifying,' Wendy added. The women ended up stranded in Menorca for hours before being put on another flight. By the time they arrived at their resort, they'd been travelling for 17 hours instead of five. Linda said: 'Our legs were like balloons. We were supposed to be relaxing — we just collapsed in the room.' ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A Jet2 rep at the hotel refused to meet them, and when they finally got a call from the airline two days later, they were offered a 'free excursion' — despite both being physically unable to walk. 'I thought it was a joke,' Linda said. 'We couldn't even get out of bed, let alone go sightseeing!' ‌ Despite being the talk of their resort — with fellow holidaymakers recognising them as 'the ladies who got on the wrong flight' — the pair said their break was 'ruined.' They've still not received compensation from Jet2, despite their travel agent and family contacting the company multiple times. So far, only Bristol Airport has issued an apology. ‌ Wendy added: 'This could've been so much worse. It was traumatic for us — but what if it had been someone with a serious health issue, or worse? This must never happen again.' Jet2 has since apologised, blaming the blunder on a 'human error' by a third-party special assistance provider. The airline claims to have 'retrained staff' and offered the women a gesture of goodwill. They said: "We would like to offer our sincere apologies to Mses. Trestrail and Russell for this incident. This is an extremely isolated incident and although there was no security risk, we have of course investigated it as a matter of urgency, including with the third-party special assistance provider. We can confirm that the customers went through security correctly, and their luggage was also screened correctly. ‌ "However, after these checks the customers were taken to the incorrect aircraft, which is the responsibility of the third-party special assistance provider at the airport. Upon boarding the aircraft, the incorrect destination on their boarding passes was unfortunately not identified and we apologise for this oversight which was down to human error. "We have carried out additional training with the team to ensure this does not happen again. As soon as we learned of the issue, our team booked Mses. Trestrail and Russell onto the soonest available flight from Menorca to Majorca and they also provided all the assistance they could both throughout their journey and the rest of their holiday. "We have been in touch with Mses. Trestrail and Russell to offer an appropriate gesture of goodwill and once again offer our sincere apologies. We understand they are due to travel with us once again this year, and we look forward to welcoming them onboard and delivering the usual VIP customer experience that we are recognised for." But for Linda and Wendy, the trust is broken. Linda said: 'We were terrified flying home. You're supposed to feel safe in their hands. They lost people, not just bags. That says it all.'

'Lifesaver' app helps pet owners and travellers 'save a ton of money'

Over half of pet owners have reduced their frequency of travel since getting a furry friend, according to research. Plus, for those who can bring their pets on holidays, 57% try and make their trip as pet-friendly as possible by booking accommodation that suits both them and their pooch. Juggling pet ownership when there's that itch to travel is a common issue that leaves many people feeling guilty. When it's not possible to bring the pet along, the thought of leaving them in an unfamiliar environment is stressful for both parties. The concern surrounding separation anxiety and wellbeing is also strong. Nearly half (49%) of pet owners admit to worrying more about their pet's wellbeing than focusing on their own holiday enjoyment. And a third of pet parents have been reported to have spent a significant portion of their holiday checking up on their pets or video calling their sitters. However, there is an app where the ideal situation plays out: jet off on holiday, confident that your pets are safe and comfortable at home. TrustedHousesitters is an app that offers a guilt-free holiday solution for pet owners as well as travel opportunities for potential sitters. For new members, they're offering a discount on annual memberships with the code THS20SC until 30th September - terms and conditions apply. The app provides pet owners with the opportunity to travel worry-free, knowing their pets are being cared for at home by a verified sitter. A one-year membership fee for a sitter starts at £79.20 with the current discount offer, reports the Mirror. Pet parent memberships typically start at £119, but with a discount code it becomes even more affordable. Once registered, pet parents can accommodate as many sitters as required throughout the year. The platform is simply designed, making it easy to use. Pet owners can begin browsing for free before choosing a membership plan - basic, standard or premium. Rather than charging for their services, sitters offer pet care in return for accommodation during their travels. This gives pet parents the chance to go on holiday safe in the knowledge their furry friends are taken care of by verified sitters. For sitters, who must be over 21, it provides an economical way to travel. Without the added hotel accommodation costs, an annual membership on TrustedHousesitters grants unlimited pet sitting stays in homes worldwide. It's important to note that house sitting may be deemed work in some countries, and sitters might therefore require a visa before travelling. Potential sitters should verify a country's travel regulations before agreeing to house-sit. There are other platforms offering similar services that pet owners might also consider. For instance, Rover, an app and website that links dog and cat parents with pet sitters and dog walkers in neighbourhoods across the UK, US, Canada and Europe. Another option for dog lovers is Borrow My Doggy, a service that pairs dog owners with verified local borrowers for walks, weekends, and even overnight stays. Interested parties can register at no cost and have the choice to opt for premium memberships if they wish. TrustedHousesitters has garnered an impressive reputation on Trustpilot, securing a 4.5 out of 5 star rating from more than 21,000 reviews. One pleased pet owner shared their experience and said: "My family and I love the benefits of TrustedHousesitters! Nearly every holiday since joining has been as a sitter. We even sat for a month when we moved to a new city to have time to get to know the neighbourhoods and research where we wanted to live before signing a long-term lease or buying." Another member commented: "Since joining TrustedHousesitters, we are slowly but surely spreading our wings into new adventures. Not only meeting lovely people and their pets, but getting to explore parts of the UK we have traditionally driven through en route to somewhere else and commented, 'isn't this lovely! We really should come back'. "Now we're starting to spend a few days in the many treasures dotted around. And all done with an old favourite of mornings, afternoons and evenings filled with furry cuddles. Our latest trip to Hampshire has been wonderful. Two wonderful dogs, equally wonderful hosts and a gorgeous part of the world to explore." Another user said how the app was a 'life saver', explaining: "Finding this site a year ago was a lifesaver. We have had a number of sitters and all have proven reliable, trustworthy and efficient. It has freed my wife and me up to do so much travelling that would otherwise have been impossible." The only issues some users have pointed out are regarding the website. One TrustedHousesitters user gave a four star review that noted: "The app is definitely better than the website, which is not as intuitive as it could be." Highlighting this, someone else added: "The app has been so straightforward and easy to use. The saved searches have led us to stays that fit exactly what we are looking for. Our first stay was incredible! I just wish we had known about TrustedHousesitters sooner! We've already booked a second stay and referred two friends." Another individual praised the concept and raved: "Great idea for an app! Very useful, we had our first sitter recently through the app, and it went very smoothly. We saved a ton of money by using the app to find someone to house/pet sit. I'm looking forward to trying out being a sitter somewhere in the world myself through the app."
