Martin expects to be 'so pleased' with next Rangers signings
Russell Martin says Rangers are "at a disadvantage" in their team building because they play so early in Champions League qualifying, but the head coach expects to be "so pleased" with new signings anticipated "in the next week or two".The Scottish Premiership runners-up have bought centre-half Emmanuel Fernandez from Peterborough and midfielder Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth, from whom right-back Max Aarons has also been signed on Lyall Cameron's arrival from Dundee had been arranged before Martin's appointment this summer. The former Southampton manager told Rangers TV he is "so pleased" with the close-season additions and said: "The ones we think will be coming into the building in the next week or two, we'll be so pleased with them and we still need some help."We also can't be in a rush to get ones we're not too sure about. When we do get them in, it will be down to a lot of very hard work, a lot of due diligence and we'll make sure they are the right ones." Rangers, who play Club Brugge in a pre-season friendly on Sunday, start their competitive campaign at home to Panathinaikos in just over two weeks time."We're also at a disadvantage because we play so early in Europe. We are trying to work when everyone else is on holiday," Martin former Scotland and Rangers defender outlined his requirements for new arrivals. "People need to be desperate to play for this club and not just be an option and one of a few options," Martin explained."We have to be ready to win early, but we also need to be in a position to help the whole football club with players who can come here, develop whilst winning, and be good business. Every club has to look at that model."Football ability would not be enough to convince Martin a player is right for Rangers."Can you come here and add to us as a group in terms of your behaviour, the way you train, the way you work and who you are as a human being, your willingness to play in a way that we want to, which is not for everyone because it's not easy?" he added."Also playing for this football club will not be for everyone. Character first and then talent after and if we get both, we'll be really happy."

Aarons aims to show 'best version of me' at Ibrox
Max Aarons says he wants to show Rangers fans "the best version of me" during his loan spell at Ibrox next 25-year-old full-back has joined from Bournemouth having also had a loan spell at Valencia last broke into the Norwich City side as a highly-rated youngster, with then manager Daniel Farke once saying he would not sell him "even for £100m".The England Under-21 international joined Bournemouth in a £7m move in 2023 but found his first-team opportunities limited in recent admits this latest loan move comes at a crucial time in his career."I wasn't getting the games at Bournemouth last season that I was happy with," he said."Obviously I went on loan to Valencia and it was a similar situation there. So I think this is one that I'm coming in here off the back of maybe not having played as many games as I wanted to last season."I drew a line under that and I'm coming in here and hopefully Rangers fans will definitely see the best version of me."Aarons says the prospect of working under manager Russell Martin, with whom he played alongside at Norwich, helped sell the idea of moving to Rangers."The size of this club - you know about it even despite being English and playing in England most of my career," he said."You know about Rangers and you know the size of this football club."And then, when that matched up with this manager, who I know very well but I haven't worked under him before, everything I've heard from the way he is and his staff as well, I think it just matches up perfectly."I think we can have a real successful season. That's why I came here."Obviously I played with the manager here. It crossed over a little bit and then he actually came on loan here as a player."That was when I first broke through at Norwich. So we had a really good relationship back then and, especially with Matt Gill, the assistant here. He was my under-18s and under-21s coach."I think everything just matched up perfectly and it was something I really wanted to do."
