UP ATS arrests Seelampur resident for alleged links with Pakistani operatives, military

India Gazette23-05-2025
New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested one suspect from Seelampur in Delhi, allegedly involved in anti-national activities and having contact with Pakistani operatives, including officials connected to the Pakistani government and military.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Harun.
Md Sahid, brother of the accused Harun, said, 'Two people came to Harun's house in civilian uniform, but he wasn't home. They met me and said that they were from the passport office, and those who came from Pakistan are being called back, made to sign, and then sent back after questioning. Then Harun went with them, and when he didn't return, we called him, the phone rang several times, and then it was switched off. When we went to the police station, they said they didn't know anything and sent him to Noida. Then he was presented at the Lucknow in court yesterday. By the time we arrived, it was too late, and we couldn't meet him.'
He further said that he used to go to Pakistan as he had married there.
'He went to Pakistan last time on April 5 and returned back on 25th. During Covid, Harun used to help people in the locality,' he added.
Rukaiya Begum, mother of Harun, said, 'I have been living here since I was 12 years old. Harun never said anything to suggest there was something going on. I wasn't there when they took him away. He got married a second time in Pakistan, which is why he used to go there once a year. He must have gotten to know Mujammil through visa-related work. That man has trapped my son. If this has been going on for three months, then why didn't you stop him from crossing the border? You could have caught him if he were doing something wrong.'
Shabana, wife of Md. Harun said, 'My husband is innocent. He had a second marriage in Pakistan and used to go there to meet her. He also worked on visa-related matters, and the visa always came after a full inquiry. He hasn't done anything wrong, he is a heart patient. I want to meet him once; they arrested him and didn't even allow us to meet him.'
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) received intelligence that Tufail, son of Maqsood Alam, a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was associated with a WhatsApp group created by Pakistan-backed anti-national organisations aimed at harming India's sovereignty, unity, and integrity, said an official statement.
Tufail is a resident of Doshipura, Jaitpura, District in Varanasi.
It was also reported that the individual was sharing important internal security-related information with Pakistani phone numbers.
According to the release, upon developing this intelligence, the ATS field unit in Varanasi confirmed that the accused, Tufail, was in contact with multiple individuals in Pakistan. Tufail was sharing videos of Maulana Shad Rizvi, a leader of the terrorist organisation Tehreek-e-Labbaik in Pakistan, on WhatsApp groups. He was also sharing messages calling for 'Ghazwa-e-Hind,' avenging the Babri Masjid incident, and implementing Sharia law in India.
Tufail had shared images and information related to several key Indian locations, including Rajghat, Namoghat, Gyanvapi, the railway station, Jama Masjid, Red Fort, and Nizamuddin Auliya, with Pakistani numbers.
He also circulated the link to these Pakistan-run groups among many other people in Varanasi. Tufail was reportedly in contact with over 600 Pakistani numbers.
He was also in contact via Facebook with a woman named Nafeesa, a resident of Faisalabad, Pakistan, whose husband is reportedly in the Pakistani army.
On May 22, 2025, Tufail was arrested from Adampur, Varanasi under FIR No. 05/25, Sections 148/152 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) at ATS Police Station, Lucknow. The accused will be presented before the Court as per legal procedure for further judicial action. (ANI)

Cyber fraud busted: Two arrested for duping Delhi man of Rs 10.64 lakh via malicious app

New Delhi: In a breakthrough against rising cyber frauds, the Cyber Police Station of South-West Delhi has arrested two cyber criminals from Jharkhand for cheating a Delhi resident of Rs 10.64 lakh through a malicious mobile application (APK file). The accused, identified as Shankar Dan (27) and Pradeep Kumar Dan (26), both residents of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, were arrested following extensive raids conducted across Jharkhand and West Bengal. According to police, the duo used to impersonate bank representatives and lure victims by sending fake APK files via WhatsApp, which gave them unauthorised access to bank accounts. In this case, the victim received a call on June 30 from someone claiming to be an SBI official, citing issues with cheque clearance. The caller sent a malicious file under the pretext of verifying cheque images. After installing the app, the victim's phone was compromised, and unauthorised transactions worth Rs 10.64 lakh were made from his Bandhan Bank account. The money was routed through the BillDesk payment platform to Axis Bank credit cards and Google Ads, and later withdrawn using third-party apps like CRED and MobiKwik. Police recovered six smartphones, including the device used to make the call and one used to operate the BillDesk app. The devices contained credit card data, banking credentials, and malware. Shankar Dan, who has studied till class 3 and owns a mobile shop, was previously involved in two cyber fraud cases and one murder case. He was responsible for calling victims and sending the malicious links. Pradeep, educated till class 8 and an accused in a murder case, managed the financial transactions. The investigation is ongoing, and police suspect the involvement of a larger cyber syndicate operating from forested areas to evade detection.

ED raids call centres in Chandigarh Tricity running tech support scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said it had conducted midnight searches on multiple illegal call centres operating in the Chandigarh Tricity region. These centres were duping foreign nationals by offering fraudulent tech support services. According to the ED, the companies had created overseas counterparts to receive payments from unsuspecting customers through payment gateways. The funds were then routed to India through formal banking channels as well as hawala. While the firms advertised services such as web designing and fixed wireless internet, they did not disclose details of promoters or staff. Many employees lacked the technical expertise normally associated with software or BPO services, indicating that the operations were entirely clandestine. One such entity, FSAL Technologies Pvt Ltd, was found running a fake call centre through an overseas front named Bios Tech in the United States. It falsely claimed to provide support for Microsoft, HP printers, routers, and other hardware. However, its director, Faisal Rashid Peerzada, failed to produce any agreements or authorizations from Microsoft, HP, or Arlo to offer such services. Investigators found that FSAL was controlling the backend of Bios Tech's website and monitoring payments received from foreign customers. Another associate, Arshdeep, a friend of Faisal, was listed as the director of Bios Tech. 'Similarly, Terrasparq and Visionaire, operated by Sahu Jain, have been running similar tech scams since 2016. Jain's sister, Ms. Priya, owns a US-based company, CTS Mobility, which acted as the overseas counterpart. ED officials recovered emails and WhatsApp chats showing the creation of fake Microsoft popup alerts and periodic fraudulent credit card transactions from foreign customers for non-existent services,' said an ED statement. The websites of these companies claimed to offer services such as mobile device management, network and device management, and Device-as-a-Service (DaaS), but provided no promoter details. Photographs displayed on the websites portrayed large IT park offices, which were contrary to the reality. The ED has confirmed that further investigation is underway. The directors are likely to be summoned for questioning, and more action is expected as the probe into the multi-crore tech support fraud progresses.

Farmers' collective seeks probe into registration of housing, commercial plots on Agristack portal

The Bangaru Vaickal Neeradhara Koottamaippu, a farmers' collective and water users' association has urged the Puducherry government to order a thorough probe into the registration of residential and commercial plots in the Agristack portal. In a letter to Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, the president of the association, V. Chandrasekhar, said multiple instances of individuals, who had sold their agricultural lands and converted them into residential and commercial plots, registering on the portal had come to light. These plots have been receiving various benefits meant for agricultural lands, including production incentives, despite not qualifying to be agricultural lands. The Department of Agriculture has failed to conduct proper field verification and has registered these plots as agricultural lands, he said. Mr. Chandrasekhar said a sample list of these plots were verified through the websites of E-Pathirapathivu and Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and registered as agricultural lands. This constitutes a serious lapse on the part of the Department of Agriculture, and it is unfortunate that benefits meant for genuine farmers have been diverted to plot owners. The Department has failed to monitor the registration process and has approved a beneficiary list that includes commercial plot owners, thereby enabling fraudulent claims, Mr. Chandrasekhar said. The collective demanded the government to conduct a thorough probe into the registration of non-agricultural plots on the portal. Disciplinary action should be initiated against the officials responsible for negligence and lack of due diligence, which facilitated the misuse of public funds.
