Tony Khan Reacts To Claims That Mercedes Moné Has Creative Control In AEW
Mercedes Moné has been on an impressive run in AEW so far. She currently holds six different championships, including the TBS Championship which she's held for more than 400 days. Moné is set to challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women's Championship at All In. However, she still faces criticism from fans who claim she has 'creative control' over her bookings.
Khan was asked about it during the AEW All In media call on Tuesday afternoon by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com. Khan shut the rumor down, explaining that no one, including Mercedes, has final creative control — besides him.
'That's definitely not true at all, so I would love to talk about that. First of all, the person you are talking about, Mercedes Moné, is an incredible, incredible talent. I have wanted Mercedes Moné in AEW. I wanted her as a star on the show and really enjoy working with her backstage and as a great talent. She's done great things with the media, and she's just a great person. I think Mercedes is a great addition to AEW. I also think that is ridiculous, the idea that people would think because she is a strong wrestler on the show that she must be the one dictating that. That is the complete opposite of what happens here,' Tony Khan explained.
Tony Khan clarifies that he is the only one with creative control
'I'm the only person with creative control over the show,' he added. 'I've had the final say since day one of AEW. I've had the final creative control since the beginning of the company.'
Khan went on to explain how he listens to talent's ideas. However, he won't do them if he doesn't feel 100% about it. Khan went on to praise Jen Pepperman for her work with Mercedes and RJ City for writing for Toni Storm. He also reiterated that the idea of a talent like Moné having creative control because she's on the show so much is unfounded.
'Mercedes is a great, great wrestler. She's a focus on the show. And she's the TBS Champion because she's hugely followed and a hugely talented star who brings so much to the table,' Khan said. 'I've seen a lot of people infer that she must have some kind of a creative card because she is such a feature on the show. But that is ridiculous to me because when you have somebody of that stature, you'd want to feature them, you'd want to push them strongly.
Khan said that he finds Moné to be a great person to work with. She is also a great example of someone who works really hard and trusts AEW's direction.

Tony Khan Explains Why Women's Tag Titles Are Currently On Hold In AEW
Tony Khan talks about the possibility of bringing Women's Tag Team Titles to AEW. All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan recently sat down with Iridian Fierro of WGN Radio. When asked about the potential of bringing Women's Tag Team Titles into the company, Khan said plans for these titles are currently on hold due to injuries in the division. 'I have a bunch of people I would like to get involved in a women's tag team tournament, potentially,' Tony Khan said. 'There has been so much injury in the women's division. And as the person who put together the Women's Casino Gauntlet, I wish that we had come out of it healthier. A quarter of the people in the match got knocked out of the match and out of action indefinitely. So we had one match where I lost 25% of the roster in one match. 'I would really like to have just mentioning people on the women's roster. Not all necessarily for the tag team tournament, but to have a full roster competing for the Women's World Championship, the TBS Championship, and potentially Tag Team Championships, because I would like to do AEW Women's World Tag Team Championships. The AEW Women's Tag Team Titles already exist 'I have the belts. I've made the belts. They exist, but I will put them into play when we are able to put the very best full roster forward to have great action with competition for all the championships.' Tony Khan Comments On Bringing AEW Dark Back
All Elite Wrestling has been one of the top professional wrestling promotions for over six years. The promotion currently has two weekly televised shows. On Wednesdays, is AEW Dynamite and on Saturdays, AEW Collision. Apart from this, the promotion has multiple pay-per-view events. AEW used to broadcast special shows on its official YouTube channel. They were AEW Dark and AEW Dark Elevation. But the show came to an end back in 2023. Now, the AEW President Tony Khan shared that he is open to bring back the retired show. Recently, Tony Khan was interviewed by Iridian Fierro of WrestFriends. During the interview, Khan shared that he would love to bring back AEW Dark. But at the same time, he wants to make sure that if he is bringing Dark back, it has to make sense. Khan also mentioned that he wants to make sure that whatever the company does, it makes sense to the fans and the media partners. 'I would love to do that. And I love doing AEW Dark. I have so many great memories. We've done hundreds of episodes of it—I love it. But across Dark and Elevation, for either or both of them to ever return, I just want to make sure it makes sense to bring AEW Dark back.
