'Scrubs' is coming back with a new season – and its original stars
After years of teasing and speculation among fans, ABC revealed on July 10 that "Scrubs" will be revived with three of its original stars — Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke — as well as series creator Bill Lawrence.
The reboot will debut in the 2025-2026 broadcast TV season, per an ABC news release.
The hospital comedy reboot will see one-time interns JD (Braff) and Turk (Faison) "scrub in together for the first time in a long time," according to the season's logline. "Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way."
"'Scrubs' means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together," Lawrence said in a statement.
The beloved comedy debuted with a starring cast consisting of Braff, Faison, Chalke, Neil Flynn (Janitor), Ken Jenkins (Chief of Medicine Dr. Bob Kelso), John C. McGinley (Dr. Perry Cox), and Judy Reyes (nurse Carla Espinosa) on NBC in October 2001.
The show moved to ABC for Season 8 and was canceled after Season 9 in 2010. By the end of the series, several main cast members had reduced roles as the network shepherded in new actors.
The cast has kept in contact since ABC sunsetted the show. Faison and Braff co-host the "Scrubs" podcast "Fake Doctors, Real Friends" and have also appeared together in T-Mobile ads.
'Scrubs' stars have been teasing a revival for years
In 2022, Braff, Faison, Chalke, McGinley, Lawrence, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn all took part in a panel at the ATX TV Festival, where they discussed the possibility of a "Scrubs" reunion.
Faison suggested at the time that a reboot would have to be done as a movie due to the busy schedule of the cast and of Lawrence, who has gone on to produce shows like "Ted Lasso" and "Shrinking."
"We all would love to work together again," Faison said. "(But) it can't be a full season of a show. It would have to be a movie or something like that."
Braff added that he would be "down" for a reunion if Lawrence is involved. Lawrence then confidently told fans: "We're going to do it. You guys know we're going to do it."

He expained: 'That was originally in the movie. I wasn't there for the decision making, but to me, it's exciting because that's a promise. I don't know if it's a promise that DC is intending to make, but to have that moment at the very end of the movie, for me personally, is the full circle moment of me being unceremoniously killed before the big battle in X-Men: First Class to be kind of the last man standing.' He also revealed how he found out about the change: 'The day of the premiere, I got a text message from James saying, 'Heads up, just so you know, some things are different, and that scene is now the end.'' There's no official word yet on where Gathegi's Mr. Terrific will appear next, but reports suggest a solo series is being considered. Even if that doesn't happen, it seems likely the character will return in the Superman sequel, or perhaps even play a bigger role in the larger DCU rollout. Kenneth Washington, best known for his starring role on CBS's classic sitcom Hogan's Heroes, passed away on July 18. At the time of his death, the late actor was 89-years-old. Born on October 19, 1935, Washington first entered the entertainment industry in the mid 1950s. Though he occasionally ventured into film with movies like the Jerry Lewis comedy Hook, Line & Sinker or 1973's Westworld, the actor would become more readily known for his roles on television, including guest appearances in Star Trek, Petticoat Junction and I Dream of Jeannie. After making his television debut on the family drama Daktari, Washington went to make eight appearances as police officer Miller in the NBC police drama, Adam-12. Following this, he was cast in a lead role in CBS's Hogan's Heroes, a fan-favorite sitcom following a group of WW2 Allied POWs in an Axis prison camp. In the context of the show, Washington portrayed the character of Sergeant Richard Baker. Succeeding Staff Sergeant James "Kinch" Kinchloe's place after actor Ivan Dixon left the series following its fifth season, Baker acted as the main underground radio operator of the camp and Colonel Robert Hogan's (Bob Crane) de facto second in command. Sadly, Washington's role in the series would last for only a single year, with CBS electing to cancel Hogan's Heroes after its sixth season aired on the network. Filming for the fourth season of the hit Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso, has finally begun, building hype for what the show has in store for audiences with its new episodes. It has already been revealed that Ted Lasso season 4 will see the titular character reunite with his pals at AFC Richmond and return to London to coach a women's football team. This upcoming season will mark a long-awaited return to one of the most beloved TV shows in recent memory. It's anyone's guess how Ted Lasso will continue the stories of Ted and his friends at Richmond, especially since the season 3 conclusion — the original series finale — seemingly wrapped everything up. It's unknown how the fourth season and its new story will rank amongst the rest of this Emmy Award-winning series. Whatever happens, Ted Lasso season 4 needs to accomplish a lot to improve upon the show's past mistakes, appeal to longtime fans, and succeed once more on streaming. Ted Lasso needs a focused narrative When Ted Lasso began, the show's primary focus was on the development of Ted, Rebecca, Nate, Keeley, Roy, and Jamie. As the series progressed, it focused on many more supporting characters in AFC Richmond and gave them more prominent roles in the story. With its third season, Ted Lasso explored too many characters and plotlines separate from the main arc. Consequently, the show veered off in many directions. However, these kinds of tangent stories became more prevalent in the third season, to the point that Ted Lasso seemed to be presenting many different shows in one. Ted Lasso season 4 should go back to basics by focusing on Ted and the returning characters trying to connect with their new football team. While the show will focus on multiple characters and their arcs, it should ensure that these subplots don't stray too far from the main path. This could make the new season especially jarring for audiences accustomed to the characters and story from the show's first three seasons. The show must balance new and old characters Ted Lasso season 3 presented multiple arcs for the characters at AFC Richmond and their loved ones. This approach fleshed out a lot of the show's world and helped bring some closure for everyone by the time the season ended. Nevertheless, the way season 3 tried to resolve every storyline within the time it had, particularly in the finale, felt rushed and unearned. In addition to not juggling too many storylines at once, Ted Lasso needs to make sure its characters develop at a natural pace. Storylines should not be forced. Since season 3 was meant to wrap up the characters' journeys together, their actions in season 4 shouldn't be made just for the sake of continuing the series. Season 4 must feature steady storylines Ted Lasso season 3 presented multiple arcs for the characters at AFC Richmond and their loved ones. This approach fleshed out a lot of the show's world and helped bring some closure for everyone by the time the season ended. Nevertheless, the way this season tried to resolve all these storylines with the time it had, particularly in the finale, came across as rushed and unearned. Their storylines also shouldn't be forced upon them with this series renewal. The show must maintain its sense of hope and optimism When it first aired in 2020, Ted Lasso shared a heartwarming message about the importance of love, faith, friendship, and self-care. This made it a beloved, much-needed show after COVID brought so much death, isolation, and hardship. Though the show's later seasons got more intense with how it explored mental illness, trauma, and parental abuse, the characters became more engaging and relatable. Given how depressing the modern world still is since the end of season 3, it seems more crucial than ever for Ted Lasso to come back with more uplifting stories to inspire audiences and help them believe in themselves and the show.
