Yashasvi Jaiswal gets stern advice to curb 'aggressive instinct' after Lord's failure: ‘A slight mistake and you're out'
In the Lord's Test, Jaiswal couldn't settle in at the crease, managing just 13 runs in the first innings before falling for a seven-ball duck in the second. His second-innings dismissal, a mistimed pull shot off Jofra Archer, reflected a lapse in shot selection.
Meanwhile, Dilip Vengsarkar, who holds the record of the only overseas batter to get his name on the Lord's honours board thrice, advised Jaiswal to curb his aggressive instincts and play the ball to its merit.
"Jaiswal is a good player with a lot of potential, but he needs to curb his aggressive instincts at times. In Test cricket, you have to play each ball on its merit. A slight mistake and you're out. Since his hundred, he hasn't been among the runs, but consistency is key at the highest level. I expect a lot from him in Test cricket," Vengsarkar told RevSportz.
'Shubman Gill's skill level has been on display throughout the series'
Vengsarkar further brushed aside some critics' opinion that Shubman Gill's spat with Zak Crawley had any bearing on his performance at Lord's. Gill, who perished for 12 in the first innings while chasing a wide one, may have played a rash shot, but Vengsarkar believes it had nothing to do with the altercation. He pointed to Gill's composed double century at Headingley as evidence of his strong temperament.
"I don't think so (Incident with Crawley affecting Gill's batting). That incident was something Gill felt very strongly about and he made his feelings clear. But I don't think it affected his batting at all. He's a top-class player, and his temperament and skill level have been on display throughout the series. He played superbly at Headingley, and I don't think the incident at Lord's had an impact on him," the former batter said.

India's Pratika Rawal, England team fined for breaching ICCs Code of Conduct after 1st ODI
Dubai, Jul 18 (PTI) India batter Pratika Rawal and the England team were on Friday fined for breaching ICC's Code Of Conduct after the conclusion of their opening ODI of the three-match series in Southampton. Rawal was handed a fine of 10 per cent of her match fee and given one demerit point for a Level 1 breach, concerning two separate incidents. Rawal was found guilty of making 'avoidable physical contact' with England bowler Lauren Filer during the 18th over and with Sophie Ecclestone in the following over. 'The Indian opener was penalised for two separate incidents that took place within a short period of time,' the ICC said on its website. 'In the 18th over, she made avoidable physical contact with bowler Lauren Filer while taking a single, and after being dismissed in the next over, she made similar avoidable contact with bowler Sophie Ecclestone on her way back to the dressing room,' it added. One demerit point was thus added to Rawal's record for it being her first offence in a 24-month period. India, who had clinched the five-match T20I series earlier, won the opening ODI by four wickets to take a 1-0 lead. The ICC said it has fined England team of five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate as they were found 'one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration'. 'In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,' the ICC said. It added, 'Rawal and England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted their respective sanctions imposed by match referee Sarah Bartlett, so there was no need for a formal hearing.'

Jadejas incredible fight at Lords Test earns him Team Indias MVP tag
Last Updated: London, Jul 18 (PTI) India head coach Gautam Gambhir led the chorus of praise for experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, describing his heroics in the Lord's Test against England as an 'incredible fight". Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls but despite his valiant knock, India went down by 22 runs in the third Test. 'That was an incredible fight. The fight from Jaddu was absolutely brilliant," said Gambhir in a video titled 'The MVP ft. Ravindra Jadeja', which was posted on the BCCI website on Friday. Chasing a modest 193, India's batting line-up crumbled with the top eight lasting less than 40 overs. But Jadeja, who came in at No. 7, stood firm and showed immense courage and grit alongside tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Together, they batted for more than 34 overs to keep India afloat. Bumrah faced 54 balls for his 5 and Siraj played out 30 deliveries for his 4 before becoming the final wicket to fall to Shoaib Bashir. India folded for 170 in 74.5 overs to trail 1-2 in the five-match series. 'His batting has reached another level. In the last two Tests the consistency and the calmness he brought to the dressing room. I've watched him for so many years and how he's developed his game now, his defence is rock solid, looks like a proper batter," Gambhir's deputy Ryan ten Doeschate said in the video. India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, Jadeja's former Saurashtra teammate at domestic level, highlighted the all-rounder's temperament under pressure. 'I always felt he has the ability to take pressure. With so much of experience, he normally comes with something that the team needs in any challenging conditions. Really, really valuable to the team," Kotak said. Pacer Mohammed Siraj echoed the sentiment, underlining Jadeja's all-round value. 'It's very difficult to get a player like me and we are lucky to have such a player in our team," Siraj said. Opener Shubman Gill, speaking at the post-match press conference, had earlier summed up Jadeja's impact. 'He is one of the most valuable players of India. The skillset he brings with his batting, bowling and fielding. He is someone who is very rare to find. The way Jaddu bhai batted was a very proud effort. The character and the courage they showed was tremendous," Gill had said. India will have to win the fourth Test beginning in Manchester on July 23 to keep their hopes of winning the series alive.
