Ice Spice to join the voice cast of the upcoming SpongeBob movie with an original song

Express Tribune10-06-2025
Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation have revealed an exciting new lineup of cast members for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, slated to hit theaters in December.
The star-studded ensemble includes Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, George Lopez, and the multi-platinum rapper Ice Spice, who will also contribute an original song to the movie's soundtrack. This marks a significant step in Ice Spice's entertainment career, building on her already impressive music success.
The movie, directed by Derek Drymon with a screenplay by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman, will follow SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends on an underwater adventure to face the ghost of the Flying Dutchman. Fans of the franchise will be delighted to see the return of the beloved original voice cast, including Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton. Mark Hamill also reprises his role as the Flying Dutchman.
Ice Spice's involvement in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants comes full circle after the rapper's 2022 release, "Bikini Bottom," a track inspired by the animated series. Although it initially received some online teasing for its SpongeBob-like sound, the song went on to become one of her signature hits. The rapper has since gained substantial recognition with breakout songs like 'Munch (Feelin' U).' Now, Spice is adding her own flair to the SpongeBob franchise with a new original track for the upcoming film.
The announcement was made at the Annecy International Animation Festival, where other upcoming Paramount and Nickelodeon projects, such as Smurfs and PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, were also previewed. The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is set for a December release, and it promises to bring a mix of nostalgic favorites and fresh talent to the big screen. This year, Ice Spice follows in the footsteps of Rihanna, who voices Smurfette in the Smurfs movie, and both artists are shaping a significant year for animated film soundtracks.

Rihanna fans believe A$AP Rocky revealed gender of third baby during ‘Smurfs' film premiere

Rihanna is expecting her third child with A$AP Rocky, and fans believe the rapper may have revealed the baby's gender accidentally during the world premiere of the new Smurfs film. Rocky appeared to reveal the gender of the baby when speaking to Entertainment Tonight co-host Kevin Frazier. The rapper hinted that he and Rihanna are expecting a baby girl during their appearance at the Smurfs world premiere in Brussels. Frazier asked Rocky, 'Is that the girl you've been waiting for?' to which Rocky responded with a smile, 'It is, man, it is.' He then held up a Smurfette toy and added, '— Right here, right here,' appearing to redirect his answer. Frazier replied, 'You know what I'm asking!' as Rocky continued to laugh. Rihanna, who announced her pregnancy at the Met Gala, has shared that she is not feeling 'too overwhelmed' despite the initial shock of the pregnancy. She has returned to making music while expecting, having released Friends of Mine for the upcoming Smurfs film. Rihanna, already mother to sons RZA, three, and Riot, 22 months, appeared on the blue carpet wearing a custom Chanel light blue semi-sheer silk chiffon top and skirt adorned with sequins, crystals, and feathers, showing her baby bump as she attended with Rocky. The Smurfs film, in which Rihanna voices Smurfette, will be released on July 18.

Trump and Paramount in advanced talks to settle CBS lawsuit

US President Donald Trump walks on the day of a "One Big Beautiful" event at the White House in Washington, DC., US, June 26, 2025. PHOTO: REUTERS President Donald Trump and Paramount Global are reportedly in advanced settlement discussions over a $20 billion lawsuit Trump filed concerning a 60 Minutes interview aired during the 2024 election cycle. The lawsuit centers on the CBS segment featuring Kamala Harris, which Trump claims was edited in a way that unfairly influenced public perception during the campaign. Harris is not involved in the case and has not publicly commented. Court filings confirm that both parties have paused litigation to allow for confidential negotiations. A proposed $20 million settlement is reportedly being considered, with most of the amount directed to Trump's foundation and the rest covering legal expenses and public messaging. Paramount has denied the allegations and is also seeking dismissal of the case. The talks come as Paramount moves forward with a proposed merger with Skydance Media, currently under regulatory review. No final agreement has been reached, but the litigation pause indicates that both sides are actively working toward resolution.
