16-year-old boy found hanging in S Kol home
The parents of the class 10 student of an English-medium school found him hanging at their Kalighat residence around 5 am on Friday.
Family members took him to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Cops said the boy, a bright student, was receiving counselling at NRS Hospital for recent depressive behaviour. Locals said the teenager had a variety of interests and was popular among friends, before he slipped into depression. Cops did not confirm if he left a suicide note. Cops have arranged for a post-mortem and inquest to determine the exact cause of death. As of now, no formal complaint has been filed by any one.

Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota was likely speeding when his car veered off a motorway in Spain last week killing him and his brother, Spanish police said on Tuesday. Just hours before the accident, Jota had posted a video of his June 22 wedding to partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. The deaths sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly in the brothers' native Portugal and at Jota's Premier League club Liverpool. Political leaders as well as star players from Portugal and Liverpool joined family and friends at the funeral on Saturday in the Porto suburb of Gondomar. Following spells at Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota became a fan favourite at Liverpool after joining the Premier League giants in 2020. He netted 65 times for the Reds in five seasons, lifting the League Cup and FA Cup in 2021/22 and helping them win a record-equalling 20th English league title last season. The striker also earned 49 caps for Portugal and was part of the team that won this year's UEFA Nations League. Younger brother Andre played in midfield for FC Penafiel in Portugal's second tier.

Two arrested from Bengal for ‘spying' for Pakistan intelligence agency
The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested two individuals from Purba Bardhaman on suspicion of allegedly passing on information to Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrests, made late Saturday night, followed a search operation across two locations in Bardhaman. The accused, identified as Mukesh Rajak and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, were produced before a Kolkata court on Monday, where the judge remanded them to STF custody for seven days. Investigators initially allegedly found that both individuals have links with Pakistan's spy agency. According to STF sources, Mukesh Rajak is a resident of Canal Road, Panagarh, and is reportedly associated with a voluntary organisation in Memari. Rakesh Kumar Gupta is said to be a resident of Bhabanipur, Kolkata, who allegedly operated as a spy under the guise of working for the same organisation. Investigators believe the espionage operation involved the sharing of mobile SIM card One-Time Passwords (OTPs) in exchange for money, facilitating the clandestine transfer of information. Both individuals reportedly lived in rented houses in different parts of Bardhaman. The arrests came after the State Police STF received 'a tip-off from a secret source'. Rajak was apprehended from a nursing home where he was undergoing treatment, while Rakesh Kumar Gupta was arrested from a rented house in Memari.
