Jay-Z teams up with Caesars and SL Green to bid for huge Times Square Casino project
MEGASTAR JAY-Z joined forces with some of the biggest names in the casino business, looking to pitch a Caesars Palace Times Square casino project in New York. The rapper - real name Shawn Carter - was among several attendees to sit in front of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and bid for one of three $500 million downstate licenses. 1 The Roc Nation co-founder was representing a partnership alongside Caesars Palace and SL Green Properties and pledged $250million in benefits to the community as part of their pitch to convert an existing office on Broadway. They face stiff competition though with EIGHT applications in total having been submitted to the New York State Gaming Commission. Jay-Z, who grew up in Brooklyn, says the location was "perfect" for the partnership group and says the introduction of a casino resort would only "fulfil and enhance" the area, which he likened to huge landmarks around the world. The 150,000-square-foot gambling hall would boast 1000 casino rooms, a Caesars Sportsbook, four restaurants associated with high-profile chefs and a spa. Concerns over the venue becoming the main attraction to Broadway have been rebuffed by the entrepreneur, who insists they would only act as an 'additive' to a tourist spot which entices over 50 million tourists per year. During the presentation, Jay-Z said: "It's our chance to change the narrative and create something all around the world. "If we treat Times Square with the love and the attention that it requires, it can fulfill its promise. 'This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I believe, to support something that's homegrown. 'As we hear a lot of talk about community, we are the community. We're from this community. 'We're not coming to compete with Broadway. We're coming to be additive. "Anything that we've done in the past, we've always included the community. We've never excluded the community.' The group's proposition also indicated a forecasted $7 billion in direct tax revenue and $26.7 billion in local economic activity in the first 10 years. Roc Nation also stated they'd supported more than five million people with social impacts worth more than $78 million. More than 3,000 construction jobs would be created as a result if they were awarded a license, and the 3,800 permanent jobs it would create would be 'mostly filled by New Yorkers'. Dunelm reduces 'chic' Scandinavian £90 side table to £22 in 75% deal
"Beautiful table nice and compact, lovely wood. Great price. Delighted with it" If you're into Scandinavian interior design, you'll be excited to hear that you can grab a 'brilliant' wooden side table at a low price. Thanks to Dunelm's latest clearance sale, you can snag this 'chic' and 'elegant' piece of furniture for 75% off. The Effy Side Table from the homeware store, showcasing a 'natural wood grain', has been reduced from £90 to just £22.25. With its natural wood effect foil, Dunelm describes it as a nod to "organic elegance and simplicity." Explaining more, it says: "Its sleek tabletop seamlessly complements contemporary interiors, providing a stylish surface for your essentials. Complete the look by pairing it with the matching Effy coffee table, and enjoy a cohesive, elegant set that enhances your home decor." Scandinavian interior design, often referred to as "Scandi," focuses on simplicity, functionality, and a connection to nature. It showcases clean lines, abundant natural light, and a minimalist, orderly appearance. Key elements include light colour schemes, natural materials like wood and wool, and a strong emphasis on creating a warm, inviting atmosphere through diverse textures and cosy fabrics. The Effy Side Table is 55cm high, 40cm wide, and 4 cm deep. It arrives partially assembled. The tabletop is crafted from Reach PVC veneer, and the legs are made of wood. If you're on the hunt for a side table that looks similar, there are tons of options to check out. Debenhams has slashed the price of this 'Tora' Triangle Side Table from £222.18 down to just £49.99. You can pick it up in three different wood finishes, and it boasts an impressive customer rating of 4.9 stars out of five. Ikea has a Stockholm pine veneer side table available for £70, which they describe as "easy to move around and adapt to different situations and needs." Meanwhile, Jysk has dropped the price of this Lydum pedestal from £49.99 to £40, but keep in mind that this deal is only valid until the end of the month. On the other hand, Dunelm's Effy Side Table currently holds a perfect five-out-of-five-star average rating. This is mainly because it has only received four reviews as of July 24—all of which were positive. So, if you're after more comprehensive feedback, this limited number of reviews might not be very reassuring. One shopper called Jay wrote: "The table is a nice colour, shape is a bit different, reasonable price, all good." Sophie said: "Lovely looking side tables for our new lounge. Can't wait to get the up and in use!" Minie put: "Beautiful table nice and compact, lovely wood. Great price. Delighted with it." A fourth said: "Brilliant side table, right height, and so easy to assemble a good weight to it also, very pleased with my purchase and always easy ordering process with Dunelm." The Effy Side Table is not available for Dunelm's Click and Collect service, so you'll have to pay extra for delivery. Standard delivery costs £3.95 and express is slightly more at £6.95.
