EXCLUSIVE John Torode declares it's 'onwards and upwards' for MasterChef after Gregg Wallace's departure as he gushes about new co-host Grace Dent
The TV star, 59, told The Mail at the Fortnum & Masons Food and Drink Awards at the Royal Exchange: 'We've been filming MasterChef, which has been great and that's been brilliant.
'We've moved to Birmingham and me and Grace are having a wonderful time. She's doing a great job. So, it's onwards and upwards.'
The food critic, 51, was announced by the BBC as Gregg's replacement in December after he was axed due to a series of complaints about his alleged behaviour.
John said he's remained optimistic throughout the controversy that has besieged the show.
'The thing is that if you walk outside and the sun's shining, the sky is blue, and you can hear a bird,' he added. 'You're still alive, so that's a really good perspective to have.'
Meanwhile, John has also been cooking up new shows with his wife Lisa Faulkner, 53, and revealed: 'There's lots of stuff happening. Lisa and I are working really hard on a couple of things, which is great.
'We've had a really exciting meeting about something exciting going on.'
He added: 'We've now done 10 series, so we're doing all right. Listen, we get on really well, we do our own thing, we enjoy each other's company, we both like food, so, you know, what's not to like.'
The TV personality also admitted he still sizzles with passion for the food industry and said: 'Food's exciting. There's lots of great people out there, people are working hard, everyone's always got to eat.
'I mean, you know what? Put a smile on your face, it's going to be great. Listen, it's really hard. There's no two ways about it.
'But at the same time, we've all been through things and we're lucky if you love it, you'll continue to love it.'
The hit programme has moved to the former Banana Warehouse on Fazely Street in Birmingham after it was announced the show would be relocating from its London headquarters, where it had been produced for two decades.
John's gushing remarks come after he dealt Gregg a huge snub by inviting Grace to his home.
The former presenting duo famously never visited each other's houses, despite fronting the BBC series together for nearly 20 years, but John's new co-presenter has already headed to his house for tea within weeks of being confirmed as the show's latest host.
His wife revealed she and the Aussie chef entertained Grace at their North London home where the former Holby City actress tested out the pair's fledgling judging chemistry.
Lisa said: 'She came over for tea and I was really excited she has been in my house. I was like "I love you."
'We made Tea and scones, cheese scones, and sticky toffee madeleines.
'She's a joy and I think the two of them will work really well together, in fact I know they will work really well together because I let them do a bit of judging when they were together.'
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show, she added: 'I think she will be absolutely brilliant. I'm a massive fan of Grace for years.
'I used to get the Guardian when she did the restaurant reviews, this was years ago, and I've loved her writing, 'I've read her books, I think she's ace.'
John, who was Best Man at Gregg's wedding, has yet to speak in detail about his former co-host after he stepped away from MasterChef in November due to allegations over his misconduct.
He released a statement on Instagram in December saying he found the reports into Gregg's alleged behaviour 'truly upsetting' and the 'thought of anyone who has appeared on our show not having a brilliant experience is awful to hear'.
John added: 'I love my job, and I love MasterChef. I love being part of it and will continue to be part of it.'
Grace previously appeared as a regular guest on MasterChef for over a decade and even competed on last year's Battle of the Critics.
After being announced as the new co-judge for the new series, she said: 'I've been watching MasterChef since I was a girl sitting with my dad on the sofa. My whole family watches it.
'It's all about uncovering and championing talent – and to have ended up in this position, is more than a dream to me.
'I'm so excited that I can't eat, which is severely detrimental to a restaurant critic. I feel very lucky to be stepping in for the next Celebrity MasterChef. I can't wait to meet the fresh celebrity faces for 2025.'
John added: 'I have loved working with Grace on MasterChef over the years. She has been an excellent guest, an inspiring critic and also set some incredible challenge.'
He continued: 'Expertise is what MasterChef is all about, from the contestants to our wonderful production team, to us as judges.
'The love of food, the love of MasterChef, and that unquestionable expertise, makes Grace the perfect person to step in alongside me as judge for the forthcoming Celebrity MasterChef series.'
Gregg has faced a series of complaints about his alleged behaviour, including claims he made inappropriate sexual jokes, shared intimate details of his sex life and even walked around set naked except for a sock on his penis.
He also reportedly would take off his clothes in front of women on set, flirt with members of staff and has been accused of groping two crew members.
At least 13 women have made formal complaints about the TV personality across five shows over a 17-year period, with more describing inappropriate experiences on social media since the scandal broke.
His lawyers have previously denied any allegations that he has engaged in behaviour that amounts to sexual harassment.
The BBC cancelled two planned Christmas specials of MasterChef amid the publicity storm surrounding the presenter, as the show's producers Banijay began an investigation.

Dita Von Teese, 52, admits she WANTS to feel 'objectified and sexualised' and says the subject still feels 'taboo' after stunning fans with her racy Diamonds and Dust burlesque show
Dita Von Teese has revealed the moments she 'wants to feel objectified and sexualised' after stunning fans with her latest show. The burlesque star, 52, has been taking to the stage in her Diamonds And Dust show, which features 'high glamour, bold women, and dangerous games' at the Emerald Theatre in London. And speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, Dita shared that she feels there is still 'taboo' around feeling sexualised and desired, and admitted the moments she feels most objectified, haven't been when she's on stage. She said: 'Interestingly, the times I feel objectified are never to do with being on stage or doing what I do. 'It's always other weird things in life that you're just like, ''Oh, God, it's so weird to have somebody asking me that question'' or maybe somebody will recognize me for instance and they ask for a picture and I'll pose for their picture and then somebody else will be like, they don't know who I am, they just are like, ''why does those people want a picture?'' 'And they'll be very aggressive and like, ''I want one too'' and you're just like, oh, that's where you feel objectified when people put their hands on you or 'I need this too' or ''can you do this?'' Dita Von Teese has revealed the moments she 'wants to feel objectified and sexualised' after stunning fans with her latest show 'Anything like that I feel objectified. I know it's really taboo to say, but sometimes you're just like, ''I just want to be objectified for a minute. Wouldn't that be nice?'' 'I want to be sexualized and objectified sometimes. 'I think I'm also so used to having a theatre full of women that are there maybe because they read my book or whatever, or they follow me and then sometimes, especially this happens in Vegas, when there's people that don't know me, they don't know what my show is about. 'They are just walking into it and they're just like, 'yeah, this is hot' and I'm like, 'oh good I'm glad that it's still sexy and hot too'. 'I like to create a show that feels if you have never heard of me, you're still going to be like, 'that was so much fun. I've never seen anything like that in my life.' Credited with re-popularising burlesque, Dita, born Heather Renée Sweet, is an American vedette and businesswoman. A vedette is the main female artist of a show derived from cabaret and its subcategories of revue, vaudeville, music hall or burlesque. In January, Dita left Lorraine viewers swooning in a plunging gown as she revealed the 'most outrageous challenge of her life' on the hit daytime show. The model opened up to Lorraine Kelly about her time on The Masked Dancer. Dita starred on the ITV competition back in 2021 and dressed as a beetroot in a green and purple dress with a mask the shape of the vegetable. She revealed to Lorraine how she had suffered with vertigo from riding a mechanical bull and subsequently found dancing on the show difficult. Dita said: 'I had vertigo from riding my mechanical bull, I was riding my mechanical bull, swinging my head around and I triggered a vertigo thing and it was a problem for a year so I'm doing The Masked Dancer with this head and the lights on the floor were crazy, it was outrageous. 'It was one of the biggest challenges of my life but it was funny and I loved it,' the dancer added. The show was filmed during the Covid pandemic and Dita stayed at Claridges during the filming. Dita said: 'It was my favourite, besides doing the show and laughing throughout, it was right when the pandemic started and it was a full lockdown here and I was the only guest at Claridges.' She enjoyed a mostly empty hotel and 'special treatment' during her stay. 'I had it all to myself, I'd come wafting down that staircase in the mornings in my nightgown. There were like five people working there and I just had special treatment and they were like sure, you can stay there, because I'm a friend of the hotel,' Dita added.

EXCLUSIVE This is the troubling comment Kelly Osbourne made to me - and why she now faces a serious marriage dilemma after accepting her Slipknot boyfriend's proposal: RICHARD EDEN'S DIARY
Ozzy Osbourne 's concert in Birmingham on Saturday was historic not just because it reunited the original line-up of local heroes Black Sabbath for the first time in 20 years but due to it being the final performance by the heavy metal singer, who has Parkinson's disease. But for Ozzy's daughter, Kelly Osbourne, the night was even more memorable because her boyfriend, Slipknot musician Sid Wilson, proposed backstage at Villa Park.

My go-to affordable mascara just got cheaper thanks to this Prime Day deal
Long fluttering lashes are the cherry on top of any make-up look and Maybelline's sky high mascara – which had a big viral moment on TikTok a few years ago – is the ultimate for natural yet impressive-looking lashes. This mascara has taken pride of place as my everyday mascara ever since I first tried it, thanks to its lash-lengthening and volumising powers. The formula feels lightweight and doesn't clump, and the wand manages to catch every one of my lashes. And best of all, I've never experienced any fallout. Having worked my way through many a tube of this mascara, I'm constantly on the hunt for a deal on it – and I'm pleased to say that I've just spotted that it's currently reduced at Amazon to £7 thanks to Prime Day. It's safe to say I'm running to the checkout to get my hands on it. Keep reading for why I think you should do the same. One of my favourite innovations in the make-up world is the glow-up that mascara wands have had. Over the years, they've developed from thick bristles that simply aren't as effective at separating lashes to spiky, plastic heads that easily glide through, distributing product evenly and sparingly. Maybelline's sky high mascara has one such wand, and I instantly fell in love with it. Its uniquely designed brush is long, thin and densely packed with tiny plastic bristles, which make it ideal for getting to hard-to-reach areas and easy to manoeuvre from all angles with minimal mess. In my in-depth review of the mascara, I also rave about the tiny bristles that line the wand, which I have found 'help comb through each and every lash – yes, even those pesky ones right in the corner'. The mascara itself isn't flaky, meaning it doesn't drop throughout the day and feels lightweight on lashes. I also find that when I swipe the product on my lashes, which are relatively short and stubborn, they look significantly longer and separated. If you're all about volume, then this mascara may not be for you, but if length is your game, then there are few better products out there. It is buildable, and you can take your lashes from incredibly natural to dramatic without the product feeling crusty or dry. I love this mascara and will definitely be taking advantage of this saving on Amazon today. I'd highly recommend doing the same if you're looking to say hello to long lashes. Thank me later.
