Two dead, six injured in Lipis accident
Lipis district police chief Superintendent Ismail Man said initial investigations found that the 33-year-old lorry driver and his girlfriend were on their way to Ketereh, Kelantan to deliver furniture, while the car driver, a 45-year-old man with seven passengers, was on his way to Kota Bharu, Kelantan to visit family members.
'Upon arriving at the scene, the lorry driver had stopped at the roadside to relieve himself. The accident is believed to have occurred when the car driver lost control before his vehicle crashed into the back of the lorry,' he said in a statement today.
He said that as a result of the accident at about 5.30 am, Roslawati Mat Daud, 50, who is the wife of the driver and niece of driver Aqif Azfar Azman, 6, died at the scene.
'Aqif Azfar died on lap of his father who was in the front passenger seat,' he said.
Ismail said the car driver and five other passengers were rushed to Kuala Lipis Hospital for further treatment, while the lorry driver and his assistant were unhurt.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, police are appealing to members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Badminton coach claims trial to causing toddler's death in crash

PETALING JAYA : A 26-year-old man claimed trial in the Muar magistrates' court today to causing the death of a two-year-old in a crash on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in May. Ong Kai Wei, a badminton coach, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Suzana Mokhtar, Berita Harian reported. Ong is accused of driving a multipurpose vehicle recklessly and causing the death of Ayesha Sofea Anwaruddin, who was a passenger in a car. The offence was allegedly committed at Km144.9 of the PLUS highway, near Muar, at about 7.35am on May 26. The charge was framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for up to 10 years in jail and a maximum RM50,000 fine upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludeen prosecuted, while Ong was represented by lawyer Siti Nurashikin Fuaddin. Ong was allowed to post bail at RM5,000 but had his driving licence suspended pending the disposal of the case. The court fixed Aug 20 for case mention.

Two injured in four-vehicle crash on Besraya highway
KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were injured in a four-vehicle crash on the Besraya Highway near Seri Kembangan on Monday after a car veered out of control and hit several vehicles. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which occurred at about 4.15pm involved a white Toyota Mark X driven by a 33-year-old man who was using a navigation app while travelling in the right lane. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the central divider before hitting the rear of a Perodua Myvi in the middle lane. "The impact caused the airbags to deploy, obstructing the driver's vision and causing the car to swerve into the left lane, where it collided with a motorcycle and a Honda BR-V," Zamzuri said. The motorcycle was ridden by a 32-year-old man, with another 32-year-old as his pillion passenger. Both men are in stable condition and receiving treatment in the Yellow Zone of Serdang Hospital. A 32-second video clip of the crash has since gone viral on social media, appearing on the Viral Now TV page. Zamzuri added that the driver of the Toyota Mark X underwent urine and alcohol screening, both of which returned negative results. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
