Louis Tomlinson admits being 'very proud' of Harry Styles in rare comment

Daily Mirror13-06-2025
Louis Tomlinson has opened up about his former bandmate Harry Styles, admitting he couldn't be prouder of the global mega-star for 'taking over the world'
Louis Tomlinson has revealed he's "very proud" of his former bandmate Harry Styles. The two found fame as one-fifth of One Direction back in 2010, after former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger spearheaded the decision to create the band on The X Factor.
Despite finishing the show in third place, the band, consisting of Louis, 33, Harry, 31, Niall Horan, 31, Zayn Malik, 32, and the late Liam Payne, 31, they went on to find fame across the globe and became one of the biggest selling boybands of all time.

For five years, the band toured the globe, racked up countless Number 1 records and dozens of awards before making the decision to start a hiatus. However, just one year later, it emerged that their hiatus had turned into a permanent split.

But since then, all five members have gone on to carve out successful solo careers. Now, Doncaster-born Louis has silenced speculation that he has become distant from his bandmates as he opened up about his bond with Cheshire's Harry. Speaking on a new podcast, he said he's in regular contact.
"I do still know him," he said on the Yoto Daily Soccer Aid Special podcast. Louis went on to say: "I used to be in a band with him, we're not in a band anymore so that's what happens. But yeah, still good friends with him.
"Still very, very proud of him, taking over the world, definitely." Fans have since reacted to the sweet admission, with one writing: "Oh God, that's so cute." A second went on to add: "My heart just exploded." "I'm sobbing so f***ng hard. Nobody speak to me. This is the best day ever," exclaimed a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Today just became the best day of my life." Since launching their solo careers, Louis has gone on to release two studio albums, Walls, which charted at Number Four in 2020, as well as Faith in the Future, which saw him take Number One in November 2022.

Elsewhere, Harry's debut album charted at Number One, with his second taking the second spot, and his third solo album, Harry's House, hitting the top spot across the globe. He's also bagged an impressive six BRIT Awards and three solo Grammy Awards – despite being nominated nine times.
Louis' comments come just days before he'll walk out onto the pitch at Old Trafford as part of Soccer Aid for UNICEF. The musician will play alongside the likes of Tom Grennan, Roman Kemp, Toni Duggan, Jill Scott, Alex Brooker, Angryginge and James Nelson-Joyce.

Speaking about taking part in the match, Louis told TV Week: "It's the only real opportunity you get to play in a football game of that magnitude if you're not a professional footballer. So it's very exciting for a football fan, and coupled with all the good that the charity has done over the past two decades, it's remarkable really."
But there's one moment that sticks out in Louis's head, playing against Niall in the 2016 game. He said: "I played against my One Direction bandmate Niall Horan in 2016. I'm the kind of guy who will rub it in your face when I win. So I kind of enjoyed having that over Niall for a couple of years!"
Louis' younger sisters, twins Daisy and Phoebe, will be on hand to offer their support in the stands. Speaking previously to the Mirror, Phoebe, said: "Obviously, with Louis playing, I've only attended once, but it was really fun. Super excited, Louis playing just makes it more interesting and a bit more funny as well."
Daisy commented: "I wouldn't say I feel as nervous seeing him play football than sing but I probably should. He sings more than he plays football but I heard he's been putting in the graft in training so I shouldn't feel too nervous on the day."
The match takes place on Sunday 15th of June at Old Trafford, Manchester, and will air on ITV1 and ITVX.

Prince Harry's 'sadness' at losing out to Prince William is 'price to pay' in bitter rift

Just days after a close friend of both Harry and William announced the birth of his first child, Jennie Bond has shared how the news could push the royal brothers even further apart The Duke and Duchess of Westminster, who are good friends of both Prince William and Prince Harry, announced the birth of their first child. ‌ Both princes have a long history with the couple, with William and Harry's friendship with Hugh Grosvenor going back years. The Duke is even godparent to Prince George, and also reportedly to Prince Archie. ‌ With a new baby in the mix, and Harry and William's feud seemingly still raging on despite the rumours of peace talks within the Sussex camp and royal family, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has revealed how the tiny tot could drive an even bigger wedge between the royal brothers. Jennie's comments come after news that Prince Harry will 'never be forgiven' by two major royals despite reconciliation hope. ‌ The royal expert told the Mirror that despite the joyous news of the baby girl's birth, the Duke and Duchess could be caught in the middle of the warring brothers if they are considering either prince for a role as godfather. Jennie said: 'As with a marriage break-up, many of William and Harry's friends have been left feeling obliged to take sides. Hugh was good friends with both William and Harry but, since the brothers' dramatic rift, the Duke Of Westminster has had to navigate a tricky path. ‌ 'And it seems he has largely sided with William, (at least in public). It was William who was invited to the big wedding, he was an usher, and William who stood alongside Hugh and his new wife Olivia cheering on Aston Villa in their exciting Champions League quarter final." Given the Duke's long history with William, Jennie believes: 'If there is to be a royal godfather to the couple's newborn daughter, the likelihood is that it will be William. There's already lots of 'cross pollination' between the families as far as godparents are concerned, so it seems likely that William will be asked.' ‌ While Harry is likely to be upset if William is chosen to the be the baby's godfather over him, Jennie said the decision would've been made easier by the Grosvenors due to Harry's current, and possibly ongoing, situation with the Firm. Jennie said: 'These awkward decisions are made slightly easier by the fact that Harry lives so far away, with no prospect of ever moving back to the UK. And that's not the ideal way to carry out any godparenting duties. ‌ 'So I think Harry will understand if he is left out and William is chosen as godfather. But it must still be rather sad for him to see his once close friends carrying on their lives without him, while William continues to enjoy the warmth and fun of their friendship. It is, however, the price he has to pay for making such damaging allegations and causing such a bitter rift with his family.' The Duke and Duchess of Westminster welcomed their baby daughter last week, announcing that the little girl's name is Cosima Florence Grosvenor. ‌ After revealing they were expecting their first child back in March, the couple announced the birth of their first child in a statement, saying the baby was born in London, adding: "Both the Duchess and Cosima are doing well. The Duke and Duchess now look forward to spending this special time together as a family." Cosima is of Greek and Italian origin. The name carries a beautiful, elegant meaning and is derived from the Greek word kosmos (κόσμος), which means order, harmony, or the universe.

Sam Bailey: ‘I won The X Factor but only really wanted one simple thing'

X Factor crooner Sam Bailey opens up about the real reason she first auditioned for the show - and how Adolescence star Stephen Graham has helped him realise his dream Former prison officer Sam Bailey, 48, shot to fame after winning The X Factor in 2013 and since then, she's not only forged a singing career, but has also become a force to be reckoned with in musical theatre, with roles in everything from Chicago to Everybody's Talking About Jamie. But as new catches up with her after one of her powerhouse performances at the Paul Stank Charitable Trust Summer Ball, it's clear that fame hasn't gone to her head. ‌ The Leicester-based mum-of-three, who has been married to husband Craig Pearson for 22 years, is warm and down-to-earth as she stops to pose for selfies with fans. Here, Sam opens up to OK! about her son Tommy's health challenges, hanging out with Rebekah Vardy, her career goals and why she'll always be grateful to Adolescence star Stephen Graham... ‌ READ MORE: 'I found an innovative red light LED hair brush that's perfect for encouraging faster hair growth' ‌ Sam, how are you? I'm good. I'm just back from performing on a Seaborn cruise – my 24th cruise to date! I was allowed to take my 10-year-old, Miley – she was the only kid on board so she was spoiled rotten! And we're off on holiday soon to Disney, Florida, with the kids. Your son Tommy, who is autistic, was diagnosed with epilepsy in May last year. That must have been terrifying… ‌ It's been a mad time. We have to normalise it now – and educate people on what to do in certain situations. WhereverI am in the world, I have two alarms set to UK time – one at 7am and one at 7pm, so I can call Tommy and check that he's taken his meds. If he doesn't, six or seven hours later he could have a massive seizure. How are all the kids? Brooke is at uni, she's going into musical theatre, and Tommy's just finished his GCSEs. But he had a seizure three days before his maths GCSE as it can cause brain fog and we had to get an exemption for him, so that's been difficult. You have to fight for everything – but I'm a mum and that's what you do. ‌ You travel a lot – does your husband Craig miss you when you're away? It's funny, when I come home he's like, 'When are you off again?' Because I just come home and make a total mess! I'm undoing suitcases, there's washing everywhere... I might have a day to sort everything, then I'm off again. ‌ Is there anything else career-wise that you'd like to do? I'd love to go into TV acting and films. I did a musical earlier this year, Now That's What I Call A Musical, with the brilliant Nina Wadia and I think I have acting chops, so I've got to get myself an acting agent. A comedy role would be great. Or EastEnders. I auditioned for Corrie years ago, not long after The X Factor, I was terrible. But now I've done seven musicals and I think I'm pretty good. I just want to get my teeth stuck into something new. You don't rest on your laurels… ‌ Ha, no. I think the busier I am, the happier I am. I only went on The X Factor to get a new kitchen! I didn't go on for clout, or to be famous. I went on it as I wanted something. But now that I've been given that platform, I've run with it. That's where some of the people that have gone on shows like that go wrong – it's singing and that's it. The X Factor has come in for some criticism – how do you feel about that? I've travelled all over the world, and it's all because of my start on The X Factor – never bite the hand that feeds you. My experiences were only ever positive. I haven't seen Simon in a long time, I do bump into him at the odd event. ‌ You duetted with Nicole Scherzinger on the final of The X Factor – are you still in touch with her? I speak to her other half, Thom Evans, actually. I know Thom of old. I used to do a lot of events that he would go to, being a rugby player. So when I saw him on The X Factor: Celebrity, I was rooting for him – he's such a ball of fun and gorgeous to look at. I was praying he and Nicole would get together. ‌ Are you still mates with Rebekah and Jamie Vardy? Yes, I went to their kids' birthday parties! But my kids know their kids, they grew up together and they're such gorgeous children. I remember we went to this soft play centre in Leicester once when the kids were little – we went in and Jamie and Bex and the kids were there. Then in walked Stephen Graham, [his wife] Hannah and their two children! People in there were like, 'Whaaat...?!' Do you know Stephen Graham? ‌ Yeah and let me tell you, he's the reason my son wants to be an actor. And he's such a nice guy. My husband took Tommy to see Venom and said, 'Ah, Stephen Graham's in this, I didn't realise – me and your mum know him.' My son was like 'WHAT? You know Stephen Graham? I want to be an actor.' I messaged Stephen and said, 'Mate, because of you my boy wants to act.' And this is a kid that doesn't come out of his room for anything. Stephen sent him a four-minute voice note, giving him loads of advice – I played it to Tom. Then he had to learn a monologue, auditioned at a college and absolutely smashed it. He got in and he's going to acting college in September. For an autistic kid with epilepsy, that's quite something. No, as long as they're happy. The only thing I've ever said to my kids is, 'I don't care what you do, as long as you get stamps on your passport.' I know so many people that haven't left their own country. There's such a big world out there. If you can, explore it.

The pair were also spotted wandering through the back streets of Rome — with Harry carrying a bottle of wine. A source said: 'Harry loves nothing more than showing people his favourite spots in Italy. 'He also loves art and Kim has been a great source of inspiration.' Kim, who grew up in Antwerp, Belgium, has shared pictures on her Instagram of The Loggia Of Cupid And Psyche — a mural depicting a love affair — at the Villa Farnesina in Rome. She also posted snaps of red peppers drying on a rooftop in Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Coast. It comes as Harry is rumoured to have fallen in love with the small Italian village of Civita di Bagnoregio. The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker spent the pandemic learning Italian and sign language. During his final Love On Tour show in Reggio Emilia, Italy, in 2023, Harry thanked 120,000 fans in Italian. Speaking in their language, he said: 'The last two years of my life have been a wonderful gift and it is truly very special to end my tour here, in a country that has a special place in my heart.' Harry Styles' mystery woman revealed after Glastonbury snog - and she's VERY different to the women he's dated before In June, the singer was seen sharing a passionate kiss with producer Ella Kenny at Glastonbury Festival. It came after his relationship with actress Taylor Russell ended in May last year. He was seen kissing model Emily Ratajkowski on a night out in 2023 and has previously dated model Kendall Jenner, singer Taylor Swift and actress Olivia Wilde. HEIDI READY FOR SUGA HIT ON TV 8 Heidi Range will recount her days in the pop group Sugababes Credit: Getty HEIDI RANGE is set to lift the lid on her tumultuous time in the Sugababes in explosive BBC documentary Girlbands Forever. The singer will sit down with interviewer Louis Theroux to recount her days in the pop group, which has had six members over the years, including the original (and current) line-up of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, as well as former members Jade Ewen and Amelle Berrabah. A source close to the project, which follows last year's Boybands Forever, said: 'Heidi has never spoken about what went on. 'Louis reached out to her directly and she finally agreed to take part a couple of weeks ago. It was an emotional interview and one that viewers will want to watch.' Last year, the Sugababes were handed a gong at the Mobo Awards, but Heidi's mum hit out after her daughter was 'white-washed' from the nomination video. She wrote on Instagram: 'I can't believe the cheek of it. Sugababes didn't have a hit till Heidi joined. It is so false and disrespectful the way they are carrying on.' Mutya hit back: 'When I wasn't in the group and the girls was doing big things without me, do you think I was getting upset about not being mentioned?' A spokesman for the original trio declined to comment. Forget the Suga – things might be about to turn very sour again. GENT IS IN LOVE 8 Tom Rhys Harries and songwriter Amy Allen Credit: Getty THE Gentlemen actor Tom Rhys Harries has just landed the starring role in DC Studios' Clayface, the villain and ally of Batman. A source told me: 'Tom and Amy are in the honey-moon phase and are the new power couple in town. 'Tom is a rising star in the film industry and Amy has fast become the first person pop stars want to work with.' Earlier this year, Amy scooped the Grammy Award for Songwriter Of The Year – the first woman to win the gong since its introduction in 2023. Amy penned Sabrina Carpenter hit tracks Espresso and Please Please Please as well as co-writing Adore You and Matilda for Harry Styles. Sounds like Tom and Amy will make sweet music together. PUB JOB FOR SAM BEFORE rising to fame on Eurovision in 2022, Sam Ryder started out singing in boozers – and now he has been appointed Head of Gigs for Greene King Pubs to help support up-and-coming artists. Sam, who dropped new single The Feeling Never Went Away from his upcoming album Heartland on Friday, said: 'Pubs provided a place for me to actually learn how to play in front of people. 'Before the pub stage, you just played guitar in your bedroom as loud as it could go. 'At pubs, you got the chance to hone your craft and learn different songs, create a little catalogue, get the expertise of actually playing in front of people.' I couldn't agree more, Sam. CRUZ BECKHAM is taking his new band on tour next month, branding his indie music style as 'nepo rock'.
