Monroe police confiscate handgun, marijuana, open alcohol containers during traffic stop
The Monroe Police Department said it handled a traffic stop in the city about 7:30 p.m. Friday, with a car that matched to the description of a vehicle involved in a potential road rage incident under investigation by Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
According to the 911 call to Monroe County Central Dispatch, the driver of the sedan had "pulled a gun" in the 15000 block of South Telegraph Road near East Albain Road in Monroe Township. The car then continued northbound on Telegraph Road, driving into the city.
Monroe police pulled over a car that matched the description and spoke with the driver, a 19-year-old man who lived in the Monroe area. Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded semi-automatic Glock .357, open alcohol containers, several suspected narcotic pills, and marijuana. Those items were confiscated.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the road rage incident and the case is expected to be presented to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.
In the meantime, the suspect was taken to the Monroe County Jail.
Police ask that any witnesses to the initial incident call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 734-240-7415.
"In light of this incident, authorities remind the public that road rage situations can escalate quickly," the police department said. "Techniques such as deep breathing, avoiding eye contact, and refraining from engagement can help defuse tense situations. If someone ever feels threatened, they are urged to call 911 immediately for assistance."

According to a Facebook post on Tuesday, Hemet police said they pulled over a motorcyclist who turned out to be a convicted felon allegedly impersonating a police officer. He also appeared to have a Glock-style handgun on his duty belt. The man, identified as Marshal Goodnight, 73, was armed with two stun guns, an expandable baton, handcuffs and pepper spray, the department said. Goodnight was wearing a tactical vest, olive slacks and a beige shirt, complete with a badge and what appeared to be a body camera and radio equipment. Police say they pulled over Goodnight on Monday after they saw him commit multiple vehicle code violations and activate emergency lights on his motorcycle. Goodnight was detained and Hemet police determined that his stun guns were in working condition. Goodnight is a convicted felon who is not legally allowed to possess firearms or related weapons, according to police. He's also not licensed to provide security in the state of California. Police arrested and booked Goodnight on several misdemeanor counts: suspicion of being a felon in possession of a stun gun; possession of a baton; being a felon in possession of a tear gas weapon; and for impersonating a peace officer. According to reports from PEOPLE , Burgin was taken into custody by officers from the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and local police from Covington, Kentucky. The arrest happened outside of an Ulta Beauty in Newport, Kentucky, shortly after 7 p.m, Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders told the outlet, citing police reports. The warrant for Burgin's arrest–which was signed by a judge on June 30–was issued by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department in neighboring Ohio, Sanders. After waiving an extradition hearing on Tuesday, July 15, Burgin was extradited to Hamilton County and booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center on Thursday, July 17, shortly after 11 a.m. According to the report, Burgin and another suspect allegedly robbed the owner of a 2018 Mercedes-Benz C300 and a semi-automatic 9-caliber Glock handgun in the parking lot of a Cincinnati apartment complex. Jackson's ex is also accused of threatening the victim while carrying a handgun and pistol-whipping the victim. The victim told police that the two suspects proceeded to take his keys and flee with their gun and the vehicle, per PEOPLE . The victim had multiple facial lacerations visible to police and was transferred to a local hospital. Burgin's arrest on July 14 was separate from his previous arrest for a warrant on April 17. 4 arrests made, 2 treated for injuries, after disturbance involving over 50 people in Monroe
At least two people were given medical attention in the aftermath of a disturbance that involved 50 to 70 people Sunday evening in a Monroe, Michigan, neighborhood. Four people have been arrested so far as a result of the incident, the Monroe Police Department said in its report. The city department was assisted on-site by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police. The altercation erupted in the area of East Third Street and Half Street, on the east side of the city. "Authorities were alerted after receiving reports of a large fight involving multiple people, with indications that weapons might have been present," the police report said. "When Monroe Police officers arrived, they encountered a chaotic scene, with an estimated crowd of 50 to 70 people engaged in shouting and physical altercations." Police said they separated those involved to determine what happened and restore order. Officers then determined that the incident resulted from an earlier altercation and domestic situation earlier in the day. Witnesses helped identify several people who were involved in the initial fight, and two victims needed medical attention for their injuries. In the aftermath, police took four people into custody who will face charges as a result of the incident. Additional people may be charged as well. To assist in the ongoing investigation, police are asking area residents to share their videos of the disturbance, or call tips and information to the Monroe Detective Bureau at 734-243-7516. "This disturbance not only affected those directly involved but also disrupted the entire neighborhood. Such behavior will not and should not be tolerated," the police department said.
