Highway 400 on-ramp from Essa Road in Barrie to reopen this week

CTV News26-05-2025
The southbound Highway 400 on-ramp from westbound Essa Road is expected to reopen this week after what will be a nearly two-week closure due to road work.
Construction on the new interchange at Essa Road and Highway 400 is progressing with crews conducting bridge and road work on the 400 southbound lanes. During the construction, traffic has been diverted via Veteran's Drive and Mapleview Drive West.
The City anticipates the on-ramp to reopen Thursday.
Additionally, the carpool lot at Fairview and Essa Roads reopened, but the lot on Ardagh Road has since closed, and will remain closed until the end of July.
The Ministry of Transportation is overseeing the extensive project, which has included widening Essa Road to six lanes between Bryne Drive/Ardagh Road and Fairview Road. The transformation is designed to improve traffic flow in an ever-growing city.
The Ministry expects the project to wrap up this fall.

Ford recalls nearly a million newer vehicles in Canada, U.S. over fuel pump concerns

Ford is recalling nearly a million cars in Canada and the United States because the low-pressure fuel pump inside the vehicles may fail — and potentially cause an engine stall while driving, increasing crash risks. The recall covers: Ford Broncos, Explorers and Lincoln Aviators between the 2021 and 2023 model years. F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD vehicles between the 2021-2023 model years. Lincoln Navigators, Ford Mustangs and F-150s between the 2021-2022 model years. 2022 Expeditions. Ford plans to send out notification letters to affected owners starting Monday to warn of safety risks related to potential fuel pump failure. But a remedy is still "under development," the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report notes. It wasn't immediately clear if there was an estimate for when a fix would become available. But this week's recall report noted that owners will receive an additional letter with instructions to take their car to an authorized dealer for that service when the time comes — and that there will be no charge. The Associated Press reached out to Ford for further comments on Thursday. The Michigan-based automaker isn't aware of any accidents or injuries related to this recall, this week's report notes. But owners should look out for potential warnings. Prior to fuel pump failure, customers may encounter poor engine performance, for example, a check engine light or a decrease in engine power. Fuel pump failure is "more likely to occur" during warm weather or if there's low fuel in the tank, the recall report notes. And loss of fuel pressure and flow can be caused by internal contamination of a car's jet pump, amid other factors. Ford also identified supplier changes during a review of the manufacturing process, the report adds. Ford estimates that 10 per cent of the 850,318 vehicles it's recalling in the U.S. have this fuel pump risk.

According to the City of London, crews will be fixing the road and sidewalks, replacing damaged catch basins, paving new asphalt, repairing water valves and maintenance holes, and upgrading the traffic signals. Sidewalks will be temporarily closed during this time, but all businesses will remain open and accessible. Construction is expected to be finished this fall.

Bike show fuels supply for Windsor-Essex food banks

The 2nd annual Motorcycle Bike Show organized by the On A Mission For The Mission Charity Foundation on July 13, 2025. (Robert Lothian/CTV News Windsor) Revved engines and local bands helped draw in food donations for Sunday's 2nd annual Motorcycle Bike Show. Organized by the On A Mission For The Mission Charity Foundation, the event asked for nonperishable food items or personal hygiene products to support food banks in the area. 'All the money we get throughout the year goes to the Windsor downtown Mission food bank, Windsor Youth Centre food bank, and we're going to be expanding our donations to include some of the food banks in the county,' said Shaun Fathers, the foundation president. BIKE SHOW WINDSOR Shaun Fathers, President of the On A Mission For The Mission Charity Foundation, said Sunday's show will help address dwindling supplies at local food banks. (Robert Lothian/CTV News Windsor) Gathered outside the Moose Lodge in Windsor, vendors set up tents, motorcyclists popped their kickstand, and food sizzled on the grill. As one of the many annual fundraisers put on by the foundation, Fathers noted the donations provide a 'great relief' to the families in need across Windsor-Essex. 'Because right now the food banks are empty, so anything that we can do to restock those shelves could possibly save somebody from losing their house,' Fathers added.
