The much-anticipated face-off between India's
Neeraj Chopra
and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is finally set to unfold once again — this time at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on August 16.
It will be the first meeting between the two javelin giants since their showdown at the
Paris Olympics 2024
, where Neeraj finished on the podium and Nadeem made history for Pakistan.
Chopra, who recently breached the elusive 90-metre mark at the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 90.23m, has continued to impress on the global stage.

Speaking to ANI at an event, the Olympic and World Champion on Friday emphasised his steady, step-by-step approach to pushing his limits: "I believe in going step-by-step. I have touched 90 m now, so I would like to increase it by one or two metres.
Then aim for 95 m. As Sumit (Antil) said, 95 m is indeed possible. Then, after that, I would try breaking my coach's record."
That coach is Jan Zelezny, the world record holder (98.48m), and someone Chopra greatly admires.
"He has thrown 98m, and so many over 90. Maybe once I hit 95m, then I can start to say something — but right now, I need to keep working," he added.

As the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo (Sept 13–21) approaches, Chopra is focused on defending his crown. "I am preparing well for it and I hope to give my level best there. It is the biggest and most important competition of the year," he said.
His clash with Arshad Nadeem in Poland may not carry Olympic stakes, but for fans across both nations, it promises plenty of excitement and perhaps a preview of battles yet to come.

Satwik-Chirag Eye Japan Open Glory, PV Sindhu & Lakshya Sen Seek Revival

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lead India at Japan Open Super 750, aiming to end their title drought. Star Indian men's doubles shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will aim to extend their consistent performance on tour and end their title drought as they lead the country's challenge at the Japan Open Super 750 beginning Tuesday. Ranked world No. 15, Satwik-Chirag have reached three semifinals this season and made the quarterfinals at the Indonesia Open in June. After the semifinal finishes at the Malaysia and India Open in January, Satwik-Chirag missed multiple weeks because of the former's health problems and Chirag's lingering back injury. Now fit, the duo reached the semifinals at the Singapore Open and the quarterfinals in Indonesia. Satwik-Chirag will commence their campaign against Korea's Kang Min Hyuk and Ki Dong Ju. In singles, Lakshya Sen and double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will aim to regain form at the USD 950,000 event. Lakshya has struggled this season with multiple first-round exits, his best performance being a quarterfinal finish at the All England. Hampered by a back injury that forced him to retire against Lin Chun-Yi at the Singapore Open, he showed glimpses of regaining touch during a narrow three-game defeat to world No. 3 Shi Yu Qi in Indonesia. Lakshya, now ranked 18th, starts against China's Wang Zheng Xing. Sindhu, ranked 16th, had her best performance this year with a quarterfinal at the India Open in January. The former world champion, who turned 30 this month, has faced four first-round and three second-round exits in 2025. If Sindhu wins her first-round match, she is expected to face third seed Akane Yamaguchi in the second round. Among others, Unnati Hooda, a Taipei Open semifinalist earlier in 2025, faces seventh seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the opening round, while Anupama Upadhyaya takes on fellow Indian Rakshitha Ramraj. In men's doubles, Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi will face Korea's third seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae. Women's doubles pairs Kavipriya Selvam-Simran Singhi and the Panda sisters, Rutaparna and Swetaparna, are also competing. Schedule for July 15 Kokona Ishikawa-Maiko Kawazoe vs Rutuparna & Swetaparna Panda: 1:10 pm IST (With PTI Inputs) view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 10:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rising motocross star Aidan Zingg dies at 16 — cause of death revealed

Image via Instagram/ Aidan Zingg The world of motocross is mourning the devastating loss of one of its brightest young stars. Aidan Zingg, a prodigious talent with a future brimming with promise, has tragically passed away at just 16 years old. On June 28, what should have been another thrilling competition at the Mammoth Mountain MX event turned into an unimaginable tragedy, leaving the racing community and fans worldwide in shock and sorrow. Zingg's untimely death has sent ripples through the sport, a painful reminder of both the exhilarating heights and harsh realities of competitive racing. In a sport built on adrenaline and ambition, Aidan stood out not just for his skill but for his humility, dedication, and infectious spirit. Today, as tributes pour in from teammates, mentors, and fans alike, we are left grappling with the heartbreaking void left by his absence. This is the story of a life cut tragically short, and the questions that remain. ' Cardiac tamponade ' revealed to be the reason behind the motocross star 's untimely demise Aidan Zingg, from Hemet, California, fell during a corner on the track in the 250 B class race. Initial reports from outlets like DirtbikeLover stated he 'was reportedly run over by multiple bikes and remained unconscious on the track for two laps before the race was red flagged'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! His management agency, Next Level Sports Management, issued a corrective statement stressing that 'Zingg was not run over by any motorcycles/riders'. Thus, the exact sequence of events remains partially unclear. In the aftermath, Aidan's mother, Shari Zingg, confirmed to USA Today Sports and People that her son's cause of death was cardiac tamponade—a life-threatening condition where fluid accumulates around the heart, preventing it from pumping effectively. This revelation has shifted the focus to medical complications in the race's aftermath rather than just the crash mechanics. An official autopsy is currently being conducted by the Mono County Sheriff's Office to provide clarity on the medical and physical circumstances surrounding his death. Aidan emerged as a prodigious talent in motocross, racing competitively since at least 2019. He secured the AMA Amateur National Championship in the Supermini 2 class in 2024 and had qualified for that event every year since. A polished and humble athlete, he had already earned sponsorships from Monster Energy, Oakley, Bell, and Renthal, and was a rising figure in Kawasaki's development pipeline. The motocross community has poured out its grief. Kawasaki Team Green posted on X: 'It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Kawasaki Team Green rider Aidan Zingg… Zingg's dedication and kind demeanor will forever be remembered'. Veteran rider Kris Keefer also urged fans to support the grieving family, underscoring the deep bonds shared within the sport. Aidan Zingg's passing is a profound loss—an extraordinary career ended before it could truly begin. As investigations continue into the fatal combination of crash injuries and cardiac tamponade, the motocross world holds its breath for answers. Amidst the shock and sorrow, one truth remains clear: Aidan's talent, humility, and indomitable spirit left an unforgettable mark. In his memory, the community must now rally—to support his family, honor his legacy, and commit to making the sport safer for all who dare to chase the speed he loved so much.
