FBC: Firebreak headlines June's PS Plus additions
FBC: Firebreak lets you and up to two others team up to kick some Hiss ass. Play as a government employee who volunteered to take out extra-dimensional monsters. But the wicked delights really kick in when you enhance your plain ol' guns with supernatural gear.
In our preview, Engadget's Jessica Conditt saw a promising and "incredibly fun" shooter that only needed a bit of fine-tuning before launch. " Firebreak is poised to be a thoughtful and focused entry in the co-op shooter genre, and it's already an inviting extension of Remedy's darkest and silliest sensibilities," she wrote.
FBC: Firebreak will be available in the Game Catalog on its launch day, June 17. You'll need a PS Plus Extra or Premium membership to claim it.
Also coming on that date is Battlefield 2042 . This could be a good time to catch up on the franchise before its next installment. (It's expected by April 2026.) Also arriving this month is We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie . Who doesn't love rolling a satisfyingly growing blob of random shit?
Both of those titles require a PS Plus Extra or Premium membership. Ditto for other June entries like Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 and theHunter: Call of the Wild . Miles Morales not allowed in MCU — Kevin Feige gives a massive Marvel update
Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige just gave a massive interview to select outlets ahead of "The Fantastic Four" hitting theaters this week (h/t Variety). And when I tell you this was massive, I'm not being hyperbolic. In this long-ranging interview, Feige covered Marvel's plans for the MCU between now and 2032, as well as what's gone wrong since "Avengers: Endgame." For me, though, the headline was this — don't expect Miles Morales in the MCU. That's coming from Feige himself, who said, 'That is nowhere," when asked about the other Spider-Man entering the MCU, adding, "We've been told to stay away." On the one hand, that's a bummer. Sony and Marvel have teamed up to great effect with Tom Holland's portrayal of Peter Parker, and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" was a pleasant surprise on Disney Plus earlier this year. It stands to reason that they could produce similarly great stories with Miles Morales, who has become a fan favorite since his introduction to the Marvel universe. On the other hand, it's tough to see where Miles would fit alongside Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. That's not to say it's impossible, and perhaps he could have been easily shoehorned into "Doomsday" or "Secret Wars," which are set to likely feature multiple iterations of the same character as the MCU careens towards a much-needed reset. But there's not a logical need for him to fill at present. Perhaps it's best that he wrap up his own story in 2027's 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,' and then Sony and Marvel can assess the future of the character. Miles' exclusion from the MCU wasn't the only major news to drop in this interview, though, as I've already hinted. So let's dive into the other big takeaways from everything else Feige had to say about the future — and past — of the MCU. While Miles Morales might not be joining the MCU anytime soon, Feige says that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is still on track to play the titular Daywalker in a "Blade" movie. 'We didn't want to simply just put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires,' Feige explained during his sit-down with the media (h/t Variety). 'It had to be unique. It fell into the time when we started pulling back and saying, 'Only accept insanely great.' And it ['Blade'] wasn't 'insanely great' at the time.' But while things are still on track for "Blade," Feige was less forthright about a future "Young Avengers" property. 'Potentially,' Feige said, when asked about a future story centered around Marvel's young heroes. 'In that case, it comes down to where's the best story and where is the best strange alchemy. Who would be fun to see them with? Each other, because that's what the Young Avengers are, but also mixing it up more.' We already know that many past "X-Men" stars are returning for next year's 'Avengers: Doomsday.' Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer were all confirmed in an hours-long casting announcement. But once that movie is over, a new cast of X-Men will star in an upcoming untitled 'X-Men' movie directed by Jake Schreier (of "Thunderbolts*" fame). They may even appear as soon as "Avengers: Secret Wars." 'We're utilizing that ['Secret Wars'] not just to round out the stories we've been telling post-'Endgame,'" Feige told those in attendance on Friday (h/t Variety). "Just as importantly — and you can look at the 'Secret Wars' comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future. 'Endgame,' literally, was about endings. 'Secret Wars' is about beginnings.' Expect Marvel to go on the younger side for casting these roles, too, as Feige noted that X-Men stories naturally tend to center around adolescents. The X-Men aren't the only major Marvel characters being recast either. Feige indicated that Marvel will ultimately recast Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in the MCU — it's just a matter of when. Finally, the biggest news Feige dropped in this press conference was that Marvel will be putting out less content — because it needs to. 'We produced 50 hours of stories between 2007 and 2019,' Feige said, when discussing how Marvel shifted from a focus on quality to a focus on quantity. "We've had well over 100 hours of stories — in half the time [in the six years since 'Avengers: Endgame']. That's too much.' It's this that Feige blames for Marvel's flagging performance. 'It's clearly not superhero fatigue, right?' he said, referring to the fact that DC's "Superman" is doing just fine at the same box office where "Thunderbolts*" and other Marvel movies have struggled. Speaking of "Thunderbolts*," Feige also blames the Disney Plus shows specifically for the movie's commercial failure. ''Thunderbolts*' I thought was a very, very good movie,' Feige told those assembled. 'But nobody knew that title and many of those characters were from a [TV] show. Some [audiences] were still feeling that notion of, 'I guess I had to have seen these other shows to understand who this is.'" Feige wants to steer away from the importance of the Marvel shows in the MCU going forward, at least in regards to how they connect to the films. Sony's gamer-friendly X90L TV is on sale for a new low price
If you're excited to smash your way through the excellent Donkey Kong Banaza on the Nintendo Switch 2, you should play it on a TV that takes full advantage of the system's ability to play games in 4K or up to 120 frames per second. Thankfully, Sony's X90L, which checks both boxes, is currently on sale at Amazon, B&H Photo, and Best Buy in its 65-inch configuration for around $898 ($301 off), an all-time low price. The X90L is a full-array LED TV, which means it has significantly better backlighting and contrast than an edge-lit set. You won't see as much blooming — aka, unnatural-looking pockets of brightness around a bright object — which can be distracting when you're watching a movie or playing a game set in a dimly lit area. The TV also runs on Sony's Cognitive Processor XR, which automatically adjusts color and contrast based on whatever it is you're watching or playing. In terms of specs, two of the TV's HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1, which means they can accept a 4K video source at up to 120Hz and are well-suited for current-gen consoles. If you connect a PS5, the TV will switch to the 'Game' picture mode, enable 'Auto HDR Tone Mapping,' and turn on ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) to minimize latency, which matters most if you play fast-paced first-person shooters or platformers. If you're a cinephile, you'll enjoy Sony Pictures Core, a streaming service exclusive to Bravia TVs that lets you download and stream 4K movies at near-4K Blu-ray quality. Miles Morales Can't Join the MCU Yet, Says Kevin Feige — GeekTyrant
For years, Marvel fans have been hyped about the possibility of Miles Morales swinging his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, with rumors that Tom Holland might eventually hang up his web-shooters, it seemed like the perfect time for Marvel to introduce the beloved character. But, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, that's not happening anytime soon, and the reason might surprise you. At a recent press event promoting Fantastic Four: The First Steps , Feige shut down speculation about a live-action Miles Morales joining the MCU, at least in the near future. When asked about the status of a Miles Morales movie, Feige said:: 'That is nowhere.' He went on to explain why Marvel can't play with that particular web just yet: 'Sony has their brilliant, genius, incredible Spider-Verse animated franchise going and until that finishes, we've been told to stay away.' So, until Sony wraps up their critically acclaimed Spider-Verse saga, the MCU has to leave Miles alone. This effectively takes Miles off the table for a while. The final chapter of the animated trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse , is currently scheduled for release on June 25, 2027. That means fans shouldn't expect Miles to appear in any major MCU events like Avengers: Secret Wars (coming December 17, 2027), especially since that movie is shaping up to be a multiversal showdown featuring Battleworld. Adding to that, Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have made it clear this third film will serve as a 'massive finale' and deliver a 'satisfying conclusion' to their animated saga. So Sony is definitely not in a rush to let go of Miles for the MCU while they're wrapping up one of their biggest success stories. Now, back in 2023, Sony teased a live-action Miles Morales project. But since then, things have gone quiet. If Feige's comments are any indication, Sony is holding that card close to their chest until the animated trilogy concludes. Miles Morales was created in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, with input from then-editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, Miles first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 following the death of Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610). In just over a decade, Miles has exploded in popularity. From groundbreaking comic runs to the hit Insomniac video games and the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse films, he's become a cornerstone of Marvel's modern era. Many fans argue he's the most successful legacy hero in comics, carving out his own identity rather than living in Peter Parker's shadow. If you were hoping to see Miles Morales show up in Secret Wars or the next Spider-Man trilogy, don't hold your breath.
