Age-Old Symbol Of Brotherhood, Says Social Activist From Kashmir As State Gears Up For Amarnath Yatra 2025
But the collective efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, local communities, and security forces have underlined the region's commitment to making Amarnath Yatra 2025 a memorable and safe experience. From logistical support to heartfelt hospitality, the adoption of the Yatra in Kashmir establishes it as a "people's Yatra".
Rashid Rahil, a Social Activist from Kashmir, said the Yatra is an age-old symbol of brotherhood in Kashmir. The Yatra is incomplete without the common people of Kashmir. Every Kashmiri prays and works hard for the successful journey of a pilgrim.
This time, everyone from the locals and civil society to tourism traders in Kashmir is excited to welcome the pilgrims coming for the holy Amarnath Yatra. Locals are playing a vital role in making the Yatra a success. From providing food and shelter to assisting in logistics, the Kashmiri community, especially in areas like Pahalgam and Ganderbal, warmly supports the pilgrims. The collaborative effort between locals, pilgrims, and authorities promotes communal harmony along with Kashmir's hospitality.
Mohammad Yasin Shah (President, Kashmir Civil Society) said, "After the Pahalgam attack, we felt that the pilgrims were somewhat scared, so we announced to give full support. We also told LG sahab that we are with you, and you should allow the pilgrims to meet us too, so that they can get acquainted with the common people of Kashmir."
There has always been support from the local people to facilitate the Yatra. Muslim ponywallahs, shopkeepers, and volunteers have historically been assisting the pilgrims, which reflects Kashmir's syncretic culture. LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed their best wishes on the occasion. They said that the administration has made elaborate arrangements to welcome and support the pilgrims. This includes coordination between civil authorities, security forces, and local people. LG held detailed meetings with the civil society and called it a people's yatra.
LG Jammu Kashmir Manoj Sinha said, "I have spoken to political parties as well as the civil society of Kashmir. Everyone has assured cooperation in the yatra. This yatra is a yatra of Kashmir, a people's yatra."
Amarnath Yatra 2025 is an important spiritual journey to the holy Amarnath cave located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir, where devotees worship the naturally formed ice Shivling, a symbol of Lord Shiva. The yatra, scheduled to run from July 3 to August 9, 2025, is a vibrant expression of faith, visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
The yatra will also boost the local economy, generating income for ponywallahs, shopkeepers, transporters, and langar operators. There will be increased activity in hotels, guesthouses, and small businesses in Jammu, Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Baltal. The yatra is said to be a big help in reviving Kashmir's lost tourism.

RJD and its allies have anti-Constitutional mindset, says BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) slammed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and his political allies for their 'anti-backward, anti-Babasaheb Ambedkar, and anti-Constitution mindset'. At a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the priority of RJD, Congress and their allies was to 'implement provisions like sharia, polygamy and halala and empowerment of only one religion'. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing the policies and schemes of Jan Kalyan and Viksit Bharat along with empowering Dalits, backward classes, women and youth, whereas Tejashwi Yadav is opposing it,' he said. Mr. Bhatia said the BJP had raised a 'serious issue' that those who called themselves socialists in Bihar were in reality 'namazwadis'. 'These people neither accept nor respect Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution... whenever they talk of sharia, the BJP will respond by standing firmly with the Constitution,' he said. He said Mr. Yadav's remark about 'throwing the Waqf Amendment law' into the dustbin was unfortunate and asked him to clarify if any State government can scrap a Central law passed by Parliament. 'The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court, and an interim order has been reserved. So, how can Tejashwi Yadav declare the law unconstitutional? Is this not contempt of court? Has Tejashwi Yadav placed himself above the judiciary,' Mr. Bhatia asked. Terming RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and Mr. Yadav as faces of 'jungle raj', Mr. Bhatia said, 'Even though elections have not yet been announced, their intentions are crystal clear: they are determined to pursue communal politics... their sole agenda is to polarise, create Hindu-Muslim divide and spread communalism.' He said the people of Bihar and the entire country would ensure that those who insulted the Constitution were 'themselves thrown into the dustbin of communal politics'. The BJP leader said that during the 2024 Lok Sabha election, all the parties in the Congress-led alliance had accepted the manifesto that 'clearly stated that personal laws and sharia would be implemented, and religion-based reservations would be granted', which were 'completely unconstitutional'. Stating that the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance would not 'allow such poisonous ideologies' to succeed, Mr. Bhatia said, 'If Tejashwi Yadav truly wants to listen to the public, he should first recall what his father, Lalu Prasad, said in Parliament on May 7, 2010. He himself had admitted that the Waqf Board had grabbed land from the general public and the government, and that there was a strong need for strict laws against this.'

Zohran Mamdani Defeats Andrew Cuomo In New York Democratic Mayoral Primary
Last Updated: Mamdani's win had been widely expected since he took a commanding lead after the polls closed a week ago Indian-origin politician Zohran Mamdani has won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The final vote count, confirmed on Tuesday, secures Mamdani's place in the November general election. Mamdani, 33, is a democratic socialist and member of the New York State Assembly. Born to Indian and Ugandan parents, he is the first Muslim and first Indian-American to win a major party's mayoral primary in the city. His win marks a major upset over Cuomo, who had hoped to return to politics after resigning in 2021 due to sexual harassment allegations. Mamdani ran on a bold and progressive platform, focusing on issues such as reducing the cost of living, rent freezes, free child care, and government-funded public transport. His campaign proposed taxing the wealthy to fund services like free city buses and government-run grocery shops. Critics, however, have called his plans unrealistic. Despite being relatively unknown when he entered the race, Mamdani's grassroots campaign gained momentum quickly. He appealed to younger and working-class voters, while Cuomo relied heavily on his name recognition and past experience. Mamdani's lead after the 24 June primary was strong, and the city's ranked-choice voting system later confirmed his victory. Some Democratic leaders are cautious about fully backing Mamdani due to his progressive views, past criticism of police, and his comments about the Israeli government. Still, his success has shaken up the party and drawn national attention. If elected in November, Mamdani would be one of the youngest mayors in the city's history. He will face current Mayor Eric Adams, now running as an independent, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden.

Teach those who backed Waqf legislation a lesson in polls: Owaisi
Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi brought Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan into his political crosshairs over the latter's support of what is now the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. He urged people of the State to teach them a 'lesson' over their support for the controversial legislation. Mr Owaisi, who is a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, an organisation that has been spearheading demonstrations and public meetings in several parts of the country against the legislation, and demanding its withdrawal, was speaking in Kurnool. It is here that he criticised parties that supported the Waqf Amendment Bill, and lauded former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for opposing it. 'Till the time you do not give them [those who supported the Bill] a political defeat, they will never understand. We thank Mr. Reddy and those who opposed the Bill,' Mr Owaisi said. Mr. Owaisi launched a salvo against Mr. Naidu yet again, drew analogies with the applicability of the law of limitation on waqf properties and Mr Naidu's business interests. 'We want to ask Mr. Naidu: You have a vegetable shop called Heritage. If somebody is in possession of it for 20 years, will it be mine or will it continue to be yours,' he asked. He alleged that Mr. Naidu and Mr. Pawan Kalyan by supporting the Bill have supported Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in its efforts to take over masjids and dargahs. 'I appeal to you that whatever election it may be, local bodies, or any other, give Mr Naidu a befitting reply,' Mr Owaisi said even as he urged TDP's Muslim leaders to leave the party and set an example by not compromising on the Constitution and the Islamic law, if the leaders are in no mood to listen to their concerns.
