Wyndham Hotels & Resorts keen to bring more overseas hotel brands to India

Time of India3 days ago
New Delhi: Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world's largest
hotel franchising
company, is "as bullish as ever" on India, where all
economic indicators
are "very positive" for the hospitality sector despite the geopolitical tumult, the chain's president for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Dimitris Manikis, told ET. "If you had seen some of these geopolitical challenges unfolding 15 years ago, people would have stopped traveling. We haven't seen that today," he said.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts on Friday announced a new "
strategic alliance
" with Cygnett Hotels & Resorts which will introduce its '
La Quinta by Wyndham
' and '
Registry Collection Hotels
' brands to country. "We saw a bit of a drop in business here when the
India-Pakistan conflict
unfolded, but that didn't stop Indians from travelling," Manikis said. "Indians are travelling more - both domestically and globally - and this country of 1.4 billion will continue to travel."
He said initial public offerings (IPOs) by hospitality companies are one of the most lucrative in India. "Ten years ago, that wasn't the case. It shows that the stock markets and investors are very bullish about the sector," Manikis said.
The alliance between Wyndham and Cygnett is expected to add more than 60 hotels across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal over the next 10 years. Wyndham and Cygnett have signed an exclusive 10-year development agreement to introduce and grow the La Quinta by Wyndham brand across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, with plans to open over 50 hotels.
Wyndham and Cygnett will introduce Registry Collection Hotels in India through a non-exclusive 10-year development agreement for 10 hotels. Hotels will be co-branded under 'Anamore', Cygnett's newly launched, luxury 5-star brand, with first hotel expected to open in 2026.
"Strategic alliances are crucial as they can help local brands with international distribution. There are brands that would like to expand outside India. How will they do that? By affiliating with international brands." Manikis said he is keen to explore possibilities in hostel and branded residences space in India.
"The hostels business does well in Europe and I'm keen to explore that for India," he said. "We launched mid-scale branded residences offering in Europe, which is doing extremely well. Both these segments have enormous potential here."
Launching more brands here is important for outbound market, said Manikis. "There are certain brands...that are doing well in Europe. I would like to see them here." "When Indians travel to Germany, Prague and Warsaw, and they stay at a Vienna House...We would like to bring our Super 8 brand to country."

Tesla's Long-Awaited India Debut Bets On Luxury Vehicle Buyers

Tesla Inc. is opening its first India showroom as Elon Musk's electric-vehicle maker looks to ply new markets and offset slowing sales where it's already well established. A 4,000-square-foot space in Mumbai's posh financial district of Bandra Kurla Complex will open its doors on Tuesday. It'll showcase Model Y crossovers made in China with an expected sticker price of more than $56,000 before taxes and insurance, Bloomberg News reported last month. That's about $10,000 more than the vehicle's starting price in the US without a federal tax credit. A second showroom is expected to open in New Delhi by the end of July, and Tesla has beefed up local hiring and secured warehousing space. But with no plans to set up a manufacturing plant in the world's third-largest automobile market, Tesla's entry into India is less about racking up immediate sales volume gains and more about gaging demand for its EVs and building up the brand's image. "It's not meaningful from a volume standpoint yet," said Jay Kale, a Mumbai-based analyst at Elara Securities. "But it plants the brand. Over time, as charging infrastructure improves and the lineup expands, Tesla could scale." The long-anticipated move comes as Tesla faces challenges in China and the US, its two core markets. The company's sales fell last quarter and it's anxious to avoid a second year of declines after a dismal 2024. The American EV maker has been ceding ground globally to Chinese rival BYD Co. and India represents an opportunity to grow in a relatively untapped market - due in part to a gamut of protectionist barriers. While the Model Y is the world's top-selling electric car, few Indians will be able to afford one. The country's EV penetration remains under 5%, and luxury cars make up just 1% of total vehicle sales. Tesla will compete mostly with German luxury carmakers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz Group AG, not mass-market budget-car players like Tata Motors Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and MG Motor India Pvt. Musk's company has flirted with the idea of establishing a local manufacturing base - something the Indian government has courted and that could sidestep heavy import tariffs - but so far Tesla hasn't committed to doing so. India is currently negotiating a trade deal with the US, including a potential reduction in tariffs on automobiles - something Musk has been seeking for years. It's unclear what impact, if any, the Tesla chief executive officer's newly strained relationship with US President Donald Trump may have on his company's lobbying efforts to lower Indian trade barriers. The Tesla brand's debut in India follows the resignation in May of its former head of operations in the country. But the Mumbai showroom launch is expected to follow Tesla's playbook from its early days in China, where marketing buzz preceded an eventual manufacturing investment and sales blitz.

What Is UAE's Golden Visa And Can You Get It For Rs 23 Lakh? FAQs Answered

UAE Golden Visa: Can any Indian get a lifetime UAE visa by paying Rs 23 lakh? UAE authorities have now issued clarifications to set the record straight. Dubai Golden Visa: The UAE Golden Visa has been the subject of much buzz lately — especially after misleading social media posts and reports went viral about special deals, new nomination rules, and even a 'lifetime" visa being available for Indians at a fixed cost. UAE authorities have now issued clarifications to set the record straight. Here's everything you need to know and all your questions answered on the UAE Golden Visa. What is the UAE Golden Visa? The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residency visa that allows foreign nationals to live, work, and study in the UAE without needing a local sponsor. First introduced in 2019, it offers 10-year validity (renewable) and targets investors, professionals, exceptional talents, scientists, entrepreneurs, and outstanding students. It aims to attract and retain global talent to contribute to the UAE's economic and developmental growth. Can You Get UAE Golden Visa for Rs 23 Lakh? No, there is no such fixed-rate Golden Visa available for Rs 23 lakh. This false claim gained traction on social media in India, misleading many into believing that a lifetime visa could be purchased for Dh100,000 (roughly Rs 23 lakh). However, the UAE government has officially denied any such scheme. Authorities warned the public to rely only on verified channels and not fall for offers that sound 'too good to be true". Is UAE Golden Visa a Lifetime Visa? No, the UAE Golden Visa is not a lifetime visa. It is valid for 10 years and is renewable upon meeting the criteria. The rumour about lifetime visas being granted to select nationalities, including Indians, was also false. A UAE official clarified to Khaleej Times that 'there is no such thing as a lifetime visa for any nationality." Can Any Indian Get UAE Golden Visa? Not automatically. Indians — like any other nationality — must meet the eligibility criteria set by UAE authorities. There is no nationality-specific entitlement. Claims that Indians are being offered Golden Visas in a special scheme have been refuted by the UAE government. Who All Are Eligible for UAE Golden Visa? According to the UAE government guidelines, the following categories of people may be eligible for the 10-year Golden Visa: Applicants must meet specific financial, academic, or professional benchmarks based on the category they apply under. How to Apply for UAE Golden Visa? The application can be made through official channels, including: You will need to submit documents proving your eligibility — such as educational degrees, salary certificates, investment documents, or recognition awards — depending on your category. What Was the Confusion Over UAE Golden Visa and What Authorities Said? A misleading campaign circulated through social media and WhatsApp groups in India sparked the confusion. The message falsely claimed that Indians could get a lifetime Golden Visa for Dh100,000 and even nominate others. Some reports implied that Indian businessmen were being offered the visa at fixed rates. The Khaleej Times reported that UAE officials have categorically denied all such claims. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security confirmed there is no such programme and urged the public to verify any information with official government websites. The UAE Golden Visa remains a merit-based long-term visa programme. However, viral social media rumours about lifetime visas, fixed-price packages, or nationality-based entitlements are completely false and have been officially denied. New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Monday said that the Indian economy is stable amid the global uncertainty. Piyush Goyal lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for industrial and infrastructure growth in the country. Speaking to reporters, Union Minister Goyal said, 'I think amongst the global uncertainty, India is an oasis. India is a stable economy. India has a huge domestic market. 140 crore Indians themselves drive economic growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership is helping India transform into a modern powerhouse of industry, infrastructure, innovation and clearly the world today looks up to India as an engine of growth.' He added that India will continue to enter trade arrangements with developed countries. 'We will continue to enter into modern trading arrangements with developed countries with whom we complement our strengths and their strengths so that it can be a win-win for both geographies,' Goyal said. Lauding tourism in India, Goyal said different parts of the country have something special to offer. If someone offers prayers at Tirupati and witnesses the sarees there, or witnesses the workmanship in Gujarat, he will be astonished. Every corner of our country has something special to offer.' Earlier on Monday, Piyush Goyal attended the National 'One District One Product' (ODOP) Awards 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Sharing visuals from his address at the awards, the Union Minister wrote on X, 'Bihar is prioritising ODOP in all its 38 districts.'
