Sam Faiers slammed for pushing ‘dangerous' suncream conspiracy theory

Metro3 days ago
Sam Faiers has been slammed for an 'irresponsible and dangerous' admission.
The former The Only Way is Essex star, 34, shares three young children with her partner Paul Knightley.
Her family recently enjoyed a summer break in Mallorca, Spain, however Sam found herself under fire after engaging in a Q&A session with fans.
One of the questions the reality star and influencer was asked was: 'What suntan lotion do you use as you have a good natural colour?'
However, Sam then admitted she and her partner – as well as their kids Paul, nine, Rosie, seven, and Edward, three – don't use sunscreen.
'So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen,' she wrote. https://www.instagram.com/p/DMpOrIWsZvc/?hl=en&img_index=10
'Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. Of course, if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade.
'Usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat, and just avoid those peak hours.'
She continued: 'I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients.
'If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up it's so good for them.
'That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zine SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! Especially for us ladies, because no one wants extra sun damage (I've had my fair share over the years because I'm such a sun lover!).'
Since her admission, Sam has been called out for her comments about her approach, with many pointing out her lack of medical expertise on her latest Instagram post – a dump of photos from the family holiday.
'You need to delete your story about not wearing sunscreen I don't think you understand the damage you can do to your followers by promoting this,' Nicole urged.
'I must have missed it, when did you go to years of school and become a dr, making you qualified to give out medical advice to millions of people? Silly me, I thought you left school to work on the door at faces. All the time you were a student, and now you're a Dr!' Nina commented.
As explained by the NHS, sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Sunburn does not just happen on holiday. You can burn in the UK, even when it's cloudy.
There's no safe or healthy way to get a tan. A tan does not protect your skin from the sun's harmful effects.
Spend time in the shade when the sun is strongest. In the UK, this is between 11am and 3pm from March to October.
Make sure you: spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm
never burn
cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses
take extra care with children
use at least factor 30 sunscreen
Do not rely on sunscreen alone to protect yourself from the sun. Wear suitable clothing and spend time in the shade when the sun's at its hottest.
When buying sunscreen, the label should have:
at least 4-star UVA protection
a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 to protect against UVB
Take extra care to protect babies and children. Their skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, and damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin cancer developing in later life.
Children aged under 6 months should be kept out of direct strong sunlight.
'Sunscreen is not toxic and full of harmful ingredients. There are cosmetic regulations that do not allow toxic products or harmful ingredients. And everything is a chemical…even tallow. This is irresponsible and dangerous, disappointing from someone with a large audience,' Helen added.
Kelsey Parker was also recently called out after claiming her children 'don't burn' and incorrectly claimed SPF 'causes skin cancer'.
The 34-year-old actress shares two children with late Wanted singer Tom Parker, Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four.
But last month she admitted on her Mum's The Word! podcast with Georgia Jones that her kids 'do not wear sun cream'. More Trending
'Sun cream is so bad,' she said, adding that she 'never' wore it growing up.
'The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them, and they do not burn,' she added.
Meanwhile last year Lauryn Goodman claimed skin was 'so much better in the sun'.
Metro has contacted representatives for Sam Faiers for comment.

The I'm a Celebrity star also told OK! magazine: 'It's called Deadcast, and it's about a couple of guys who do a podcast about the supernatural. Strictly star Wynne Evans confirms split from fiancée only weeks after proposal

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has confirmed that he has split from fiancée Liz Brookes – only weeks after popping the question. The Welsh opera singer, 53, began dating events manager Liz, 50, last year, and proposed while on holiday in Morocco this June. Sharing a snap of himself popping the question to a stunned-looking Liz, Wynne announced via Instagram: 'Big news… I got engaged! 💍' Fast-forward a few weeks, and he and Liz have now apparently broken up. Taking to Facebook Live on Saturday morning, he described himself as more 'level-headed' than he'd been in years after 'having been in a bad place or a relationship that's not healthy for me.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. 'It's now calm,' he said, seemingly confirming the end of the relationship. Wynne's split from Liz was confirmed by a source for The Daily Mail, who said: 'Wynne and Liz broke off their engagement a few weeks ago.' The publication's source credits the 'pressure' of the new restaurant he has decided to open in his hometown of Carmarthen. He will also be starting his own radio show, set inside the restaurant. The Mail's source continued: 'The pressure of his new business ventures took its toll and they had a big fallout. Initially, there was a belief they would get back together when the ill-feeling died down, as they had split before and managed to patch things up. 'But with Wynne actively trying to date again and going public describing the relationship as 'not healthy', it's safe to say they've split for good this time.' Wynne and Liz first met when he performed at a corporate function for the firm where she worked. She was an audience regular at Strictly, where she watched him perform and cheered him on. They began dating after his divorce from his wife of 17 years, Tanwen Evans, with whom he shared daughter Ismay and son Taliesin. Liz stuck by the Go Compare frontman throughout the scandal which followed his Strictly appearance and live show controversy. They were initially reported to have split after he was caught joking about a 'spit roast' or 'threesome' with Strictly Live presenter and professional dancer Janette Manrana, 41. A source told The Sun that Liz had been 'humiliated by what happened when he was on Strictly'. This insider continued: 'She always knew he was a bit old school, and actually liked the fact he seemed rough round the edges. She just assumed it was all part of his charm.' They added: 'It's not clear exactly when they split, but friends say that when his latest lewd gaffe was revealed at the Strictly Live Tour launch she was relieved they were no longer together.' However, another source later told The Mirror that Liz was 'rallying around' Wynne, leaving him 'appreciative of all the love and support he is getting.' He apologised soon after being dumped from the Strictly Live tour, describing himself as 'deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate action caused.' During an appearance on ITV's This Morning, he described himself at his 'lowest ebb' over the scandal – which also included accusations of 'inappropriately touching' professional dance partner Katya Jones. Wynne and Katya addressed the furore as a 'silly joke' gone wrong, but Wynne was beset with more controversy, first after the 'spit roast' incident, and then again after mucking around with a sex toy in a video with EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick. 'I wanted to end my life. I would have if I hadn't been surrounded by people,' he said to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. 'I remember saying to my girlfriend, 'I have to kill myself. I have to because this is what they want.' 'You're full of these thoughts the entire time and it takes over your life.' In June, Wynne proposed to Liz while on holiday in Morocco. Announcing the news, he shared: 'This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I've checked.) 'She's clever, she's kind, she's got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug.' The post also included a photo of their hands holding glasses of champagne, with Liz wielding her engagement ring. A source told The Sun: 'It has been a tumultuous six months for Wynne, but Liz has been his absolute rock throughout. More Trending 'Finally, some wonderful news for Wynne and his inner circle to celibate and everyone is chuffed for them both. 'He secretly bought an engagement ring and squirrelled it away for their holiday and then popped the question over champagne.' They added: 'Liz has been incredible over the past few months, supporting him through thick and thin, and had his back throughout, but obviously Wynne is telling everyone she's a lucky girl!' has reached out to Wynne Evans' representative for comment. Love Island star reveals 'crazy' link to Liam Gallagher after being dumped from villa

A dumped Love Island favourite has revealed their impressive links to Liam Gallagher and his niece Anais Gallagher after being axed from the villa Former Love Island contestant Tommy Bradley has revealed he once carried out gardening work at the home of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. ‌ Tommy, 22, was dumped from the ITV2 dating series alongside Lucy Quinn nearly three weeks ago. Speaking on GK Barry's Saving Grace podcast, the Hertfordshire landscape gardener explained that before joining the show, his work often took him to celebrity properties. ‌ 'When I tell people I do gardening, it doesn't sound as good,' he said. 'But we'd go to footballers' houses and celebrities.' It comes after dumped Love Island star Megan Forte Clarke took a brutal swipe at Harry and Shakira after being axed from the island for a second time. ‌ Asked who the most famous client was, Tommy replied: 'Liam Gallagher. I'm a massive Oasis fan and there was a point when a company I joined used to do his maintenance like cut his grass, cut back hedges, general tidy‑up.' Tommy said his stint with the company coincided with Gallagher temporarily leaving the property. 'I joined that company when he moved out for building work. His house was being renovated and he moved to the Cotswolds,' he explained. 'I was only there for three months, just for the summer, and when I left, he moved back in. I was actually gutted." ‌ Although he did not meet Gallagher during that time, Tommy said he has since had an indirect connection to the famous family. He revealed Noel Gallagher's daughter, Anais, had commented on one of his TikTok posts. 'I was buzzing,' he said. 'I then went on Instagram and saw she follows me, so I followed her back. She sent a video of Noel and Liam on stage and I messaged her like, 'Counting down the days.'' ‌ Tommy said the exchange ended there, but he has plans to see Liam Gallagher perform later this year. 'I'm going in September at Wembley,' he said. 'She asked me what show I'm going to and I told her. She liked the message but that's all it's been left at.' The gardener appeared on the summer 2025 series of Love Island and has became known for his romance with fellow contestant Lucy Quinn before the pair were eliminated. ‌ Since leaving the villa, he has been discussing his life before reality TV and the unusual celebrity encounters he experienced through his gardening work. It comes after Tommy's love interest Lucy finally addressed her viral voicenote following her exit from the Love Island villa. The makeup artist, 21, faced backlash when a message she had sent to a friend before entering the ITV2 reality show as a Bombshell was leaked. ‌ In the 37-second recording, fans heard her plan to couple up with Tommy - who at that point had just finished dating Megan Forte Clarke - as a supposedly guaranteed way to make it to the final, and was grilled by host Maya Jama on the incident during an appearance on Sunday's Aftersun. She explained: "So obviously, like, we probably have all done it, like, sent voice notes to friends and obviously, I really did trust that friend. ‌ "So, with the Tommy situation, I was just saying that he's a very nice boy and, like, that's why I wanted to get to know him." Insisting that she did not intend for the message to come across as a game plan to win, she said: "I did say 'Til the end', but it weren't like, the final, obviously, I was meaning, like, I wanted to be with him in the future. Someone with really good morals and stuff like that. ‌ The Liverpudlian also used her airtime to insist that Tommy is a boy her father approved of, and profusely apologised to Megan, whom she had labelled a "f***king little slapper" but insisted she is not normally the type of person who would say that. She added: "And, also, before going on the show, my dad did say to me, like, 'He's the kind of boy I'd like you to bring home because he's just very respectful. And then, obviously, talking about Meghan as well, I should never have commented on someone who I've never met before. So I do really apologise about that, I'm actually not that type of girl. " Lucy claimed that the whole scandal has "been blown out of proportion" and that she didn't expect everyone to hear the voice note in the first place. In response, Maya told her: "That's definitely not a good friend, I hope you blocked her after that" and Lucy confirmed that she is no longer in contact with the person who leaked the voice note.
