Sam Faiers faces backlash over controversial comment about sunscreen
Sam Faiers has been hit with backlash over controversial comments she made about sunscreen, admitting her children never wear sun cream as they 'have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun' Sam Faiers has come under fire for controversial comments she made about sun cream. The reality star took to social media to reveal she doesn't get her children to wear sun cream. The former TOWIE star explained that her kids have "built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun" as she made wild claims about sunscreen having "pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients" in, which has been discredited by a skin doctor. In a lengthy post shared on social media, she wrote: "So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen. Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. "Of course if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade... usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat and just avoid those peak hours." Her comments come after she and sister Billie made a huge announcement. She then went on to add: "I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients. If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. "But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up, it's good for them. That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zinc SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! Especially for us ladies because no one wants extra sun damage." The comments have now been heavily criticised by a skin doctor. Skin cancer prevention doctor Ross Perry told the Daily Mail: "It is a well-known fact that children if they get any degree of sunburn as a child it more than doubles their risk of getting skin cancer at a later date so that is completely false and misleading. "Children do not build up a tolerance to sun exposure. I would totally advocate the use of sun protective clothing as a alternative for those who do not tolerate sun cream being regularly applied, especially for children regularly in and out of the water, but they will only cover certain areas so an SPF is still required. "It is misleading to say that children need to have sunlight in order to promote their health as they will absorb more than enough sunlight through day-to-day activities rather as an over exposure or potential sunburn on holidays."

Sam Faiers is branded 'irresponsible and naive' by 'horrified' skin doctor after admitting her three children don't wear sunscreen as she wrongly claims many SPF brands are 'harmful' in controversial statement
A leading skin doctor has slammed Sam Faiers on Wednesday after she admitted she doesn't put sunscreen on her children in a controversial opinion on SPF. Currently on holiday in Mallorca, the mother-of-three took to Instagram on Tuesday as she responded to a fans question asking what suntan lotion brand she uses. The former TOWIE star revealed none of her family use sunscreen as she wrongly claimed some brands of SPF are 'harmful' and full of 'toxic ingredients'. Now skin cancer prevention doctor Ross Perry has told Daily Mail he is 'absolutely horrified' by Sam's comments and called her 'naive and irresponsible'. Dr Perry, who is the owner of skin clinics chain Cosmedics, claimed the reality star is 'misleading' fans into not using sunscreen on their children and it can 'double the risk of getting skin cancer' as they 'do not build up a tolerance to sun exposure'. He told Daily Mail: 'I am absolutely horrified at Sam Faiers' comments to followers (2.5 million of them!) are both irresponsible and naive. 'Children do not build up a tolerance to sun exposure, they are just storing up more sun damage for later on in life.' He continued: 'It is a well-known fact that children if they get any degree of sunburn as a child it more than doubles their risk of getting skin cancer at a later date so that is completely false and misleading. 'Children do NOT build up a tolerance to sun exposure. I would totally advocate the use of sun protective clothing as a alternative for those who do not tolerate suncream being regularly applied, especially for children regularly in and out of the water, but they will only cover certain areas so an SPF is still required. 'It is misleading to say that children need to have sunlight in order to promote their health as they will absorb more than enough sunlight through day-to-day activities rather as an over exposure or potential sunburn on holidays. 'The standards that still apply and are good guidance are that people apply SPF when out in particularly hot sun environments and do not take the risk of getting any sunburn and that involves wearing hats, appropriate clothing and avoiding hot times of the day for sunbathing.' 'Remember that ANY tan or sunburn is creating damage to the skin so SPF should always be worn in the sun,' he concluded. Sam revealed that she doesn't use suncream on her children by sharing a snap of her youngest son Edward, two, playing in the shade. She wrote: 'So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen. 'Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. Of course if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade... usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat and just avoid those peak hours. 'I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients.' Sam then revealed the alternative way she makes sure her children stay safe in the sun as she added: 'If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. 'But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up, it's good for them. 'That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zinc SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! Especially for us ladies because no one wants extra sun damage (I've had my fair share over the years because I am such a sun lover!).' Sam isn't the first celebrity to admit they don't use SPF on their children after Kelsey Parker, TV personality and widow of The Wanted singer Tom Parkewr, previously claimed that her children 'don't burn' and wrongly alleged SPF 'causes skin cancer'. Speaking on her podcast with fellow mum Georgia Jones she said: 'My kids do not wear sun cream.' Instead, she uses 'organic' sun cream to protect her children and claimed they 'do not burn'. 'Sun cream is so bad', she said, adding that growing up she 'never used to wear sun cream, sun cream causes skin cancer'. 'The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them and they do not burn.' Lauryn Goodman also spoke out about sun cream last year after she took to Instagram to tell her followers: 'you're brought up to wear sun cream [to] protect yourself', but 'everything you think you know isn't correct'. She insisted: 'training your skin is key' as she added: 'It's about building up your melanin to handle the sun as well slowly. 'I did it with K [her eldest son] and will do it with little girlie.' Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun'. Dr Bav Shergill a consultant dermatologist at the Queen Victoria Hospital, London and spokesman for the British Association of Dermatologists hit back at her claims. He previously told the Daily Mail: 'Sunscreens are a safe and effective way to protect your skin from burning and other forms of sun damage. 'Millions of people have used sunscreen over many decades so we can be confident about their safety profile. 'For people with lighter skin tones, there is a common misconception that you can build up a base tan which will protect you. 'A tan is a reaction to sun damage, so to develop a base tan, you have to damage your skin. Responding to a comment from a follower who advised that UV rash vests offer 'more protection' than cream, she also said 'skin is so much better in the sun' 'Evidence also suggests that a "base tan" offers the equivalent of SPF 4 – not enough to provide meaningful protection.' He added: 'If you don't want to use sunscreen, you need to be really on top of other forms of sun protection. 'Make good use of shade, minimise the time you spend out in the sun when the UV index is three or above, and wear clothing that covers your skin. 'These tend to be very effective ways of protecting your skin – though ideally you would use sunscreen in addition to these options as a final line of defence.' Meanwhile Dr Richard Parsons, a senior lecturer in biochemical toxicology at Kings College London, warned that any sunburn still raises the cancer and long term damage risk. He told the Daily Mail last year: 'Building a base tan is fine. But you have still got to have that level of protection. 'If you burn you are still going to increase your chances of getting those DNA mutations which can increase your risk of cancer. 'As you get older, you can get lost elasticity in the skin you can get skin damage like wrinkles. So that's actually lasting damage.' He added: 'We're not talking "I've got a real bad sunburn, but it's ok it'll be gone in a few weeks". That will have lasting implications.'

Sam Faiers slammed after admitting she doesn't put suncream on her three kids
Former TOWIE star Sam Faiers has been slammed online after revealing she doesn't use sunscreen on her three young children due to it being 'harmful and full of toxic ingredients' Sam Faiers has been slammed online after admitting she doesn't put suncream on her three children as she shared her controversial opinion on SPF with her fans. The former TOWIE star stated that her children had "built up a tolerance" to sunburn, sparking outrage amongst her fanbase. The mum-of-three is often seen jetting off to various sunny locations across the globe with her partner Paul and their three young children - Paul, eight, Rosie, five and three-year-old Edward. Currently on holiday in Mallorca, the reality star took to Instagram stories to do a Q&A with fans. One follower asked what brand of sun cream she uses, to which she revealed that none of her family use it, claiming that some brands are "harmful" and full of "toxic ingredients". Sam admitted: "So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen. "Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. "Of course, if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade.. usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat, and just avoid those peak hours." "I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients," she shared. Revealing what she does instead to make sure her children are safe in the sun, she added: "If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up. It's so good for them. "That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zine SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! especially for us ladies, because no one wants extra sun damage - I've had my fair share over the years because I'm such a sun lover!". Unable to respond directly to the Instagram Story, followers took to the comments section of her latest post. One fan wrote: "You need to delete your story about not wearing sunscreen. I don't think you understand the damage you can do to your followers by promoting this." Another simply stated: "I actually can't wrap my head around her saying that. I'm shocked." Someone else replied to this fan, saying: "I'm not surprised at this point, this is coming from the person who said herbs cured her crohns..." A fourth fan said: "A responsibility comes with having 2.5m followers, and this could literally cause so much damage. Kids don't build a tolerance. Their skin is fragile. Just because you can't see the damage doesn't mean it isn't there. So so disappointing."

Sam Faiers slammed for pushing ‘dangerous' suncream conspiracy theory
Sam Faiers has been slammed for an 'irresponsible and dangerous' admission. The former The Only Way is Essex star, 34, shares three young children with her partner Paul Knightley. Her family recently enjoyed a summer break in Mallorca, Spain, however Sam found herself under fire after engaging in a Q&A session with fans. One of the questions the reality star and influencer was asked was: 'What suntan lotion do you use as you have a good natural colour?' However, Sam then admitted she and her partner – as well as their kids Paul, nine, Rosie, seven, and Edward, three – don't use sunscreen. 'So this is always a bit of a controversial one, but honestly, me and my whole family don't actually wear sunscreen,' she wrote. 'Over the years, the kids have built up a really good tolerance to being in the sun. Of course, if it's really hot and the sun feels too harsh I'll make sure we head into the shade. 'Usually around lunchtime we'll go in, have something to eat, and just avoid those peak hours.' She continued: 'I'm really careful about sunscreen in general, because a lot of them are actually pretty harmful and full of toxic ingredients. 'If you do want to protect your kids, I think SPF swimwear is such a good and safer option. But also, don't be afraid of the sun! Early in the morning or later in the afternoon when it's not as strong, I love letting the kids run around and soak it up it's so good for them. 'That said, I do always bring a Tallow Zine SPF with me when I go away, just in case. And hats or caps are a must! Especially for us ladies, because no one wants extra sun damage (I've had my fair share over the years because I'm such a sun lover!).' Since her admission, Sam has been called out for her comments about her approach, with many pointing out her lack of medical expertise on her latest Instagram post – a dump of photos from the family holiday. 'You need to delete your story about not wearing sunscreen I don't think you understand the damage you can do to your followers by promoting this,' Nicole urged. 'I must have missed it, when did you go to years of school and become a dr, making you qualified to give out medical advice to millions of people? Silly me, I thought you left school to work on the door at faces. All the time you were a student, and now you're a Dr!' Nina commented. As explained by the NHS, sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Sunburn does not just happen on holiday. You can burn in the UK, even when it's cloudy. There's no safe or healthy way to get a tan. A tan does not protect your skin from the sun's harmful effects. Spend time in the shade when the sun is strongest. In the UK, this is between 11am and 3pm from March to October. Make sure you: spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm never burn cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses take extra care with children use at least factor 30 sunscreen Do not rely on sunscreen alone to protect yourself from the sun. Wear suitable clothing and spend time in the shade when the sun's at its hottest. When buying sunscreen, the label should have: at least 4-star UVA protection a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 to protect against UVB Take extra care to protect babies and children. Their skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, and damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin cancer developing in later life. Children aged under 6 months should be kept out of direct strong sunlight. 'Sunscreen is not toxic and full of harmful ingredients. There are cosmetic regulations that do not allow toxic products or harmful ingredients. And everything is a chemical…even tallow. This is irresponsible and dangerous, disappointing from someone with a large audience,' Helen added. Kelsey Parker was also recently called out after claiming her children 'don't burn' and incorrectly claimed SPF 'causes skin cancer'. The 34-year-old actress shares two children with late Wanted singer Tom Parker, Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four. But last month she admitted on her Mum's The Word! podcast with Georgia Jones that her kids 'do not wear sun cream'. More Trending 'Sun cream is so bad,' she said, adding that she 'never' wore it growing up. 'The only thing that I may put on them is an organic sun cream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put sun cream on them, and they do not burn,' she added. Meanwhile last year Lauryn Goodman claimed skin was 'so much better in the sun'. Sam Faiers' mother-in-law Gaynor Knightley shares family holiday snaps without her - amid claims Paul is 'dragging his feet' over proposing
Sam Faiers' mother-in-law Gaynor Knightley has shared some 'family' snaps from their holiday to Mallorca but failed to include any photos of Sam. The doting grandmother gushed over her son and three grandchildren in an Instagram post which she captioned: 'My beautiful family'. However despite Sam being on the trip with them, she did not feature in either photo posted by Gaynor this week. Sam's absence in the social media post comes amid reports that her long-term partner is 'dragging his feet' over proposing. In the photos, Sam's partner Paul posed proudly beside his mother, who looked glam in a black blouse and camel trousers. A second photograph showed them with their arms around Sam and Paul's three children, Paul, nine, Rosie, seven, and Edward, three. One fan wrote in the comment section: 'Such a shame Sam isn't in the photo'. Sam has shared her own sweet updates from the trip, including a snap of herself and Gaynor enjoying a cocktail together over lunch. Sam and her real estate developer beau have been together since 2014. In the years since meeting her partner, Sam has become somewhat of a business magnate and it is thought she is worth around £9million thanks to her businesses Revive Collagen and her kids' range with Tesco, called The Sam Faiers Edit. But the range used to be called Knightley's Adventures, after her beau's surname, and sources have told The Sun that Paul was 'disappointed' to have his name axed. In fact the name change is reportedly among reasons causing Paul to 'drag his feet' on proposing, with him 'struggling with the dynamic' of her soaring business success. One source said: 'Without meaning to, the dynamic in the house has changed and people suspect that Paul is starting to feel like he has been left behind. Another added: 'It's no secret Sam has always been the main breadwinner, but over the last couple of years, she has become a business magnate to rival Kim Kardashian.' In the years since meeting her partner, Sam has become somewhat of a business magnate and it is thought she is worth around £9million thanks to her businesses Revive Collagen (Pictured) Sam has previously been very honest about her thoughts on marriage, and admitted she does think it will happen eventually. Speaking on her podcast The Sam and Billie Show with sister Billie, she said: 'I get this question of when will we get married all the time. I just think, number 1 I don't know what the rush is. 'We've had a lot of pressure from people who watch our show and people ask 'why aren't you married yet, when is it going to happen?' 'I know we will get married – but I'm so grateful that we have it all to look forward to and in our relationship, we've done the hardest bit (having kids). It is a big challenge and change for a couple. 'I know it's not the right or correct way round but it doesn't matter. But we have done the hardest bit and then hopefully the marriage will be a success and last forever! 'I've never been in a major rush. Some people want to get married before having children but that was never on our agendas. 'But I am looking forward to having all three of my children at the wedding so I'm grateful that it has happened this way round. The more pressure put on us it pushes Paul away. And did you know that 42 per cent of marriages end in divorce!'
