Boston police warn delivery drivers of increase in food drop-off robberies
The incidents have been reported in the city's Mattapan and Hyde Park neighborhoods, police said in a press release. In most cases, robbers threatened the delivery drivers — sometimes with weapons — as they tried to drop off the food order. The robbers then stole the food.
Boston police are concerned for the safety of drivers working for app-based and independent food delivery services. It recommends that they follow these safety tips:
Always be aware of your surroundings, especially when delivering food to an unfamiliar or low-visibility area.
If something seems suspicious about the delivery location, consider contacting the customer through the app or calling the delivery company for verification.
Let a friend or family member know your route or use apps that allow real-time location sharing.
Avoid carrying cash while working and report any customers who insist on paying in cash outside the app's payment system.
If a situation doesn't feel right, don't approach. Call the customer from a safe distance or notify the delivery service and leave the area.
The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the robberies. Anyone with information about them is strongly urged to contact detectives at (617) 343-5607.

Woman escapes Mass. home after man tries to kidnap her using dog-walking app, police say
A woman entered the Southbridge Police Department's headquarters last Friday to report an attempted kidnapping — which she escaped moments earlier, police said Thursday. She entered the station at around 8:10 p.m., the department said in a statement. Earlier, she was working for a dog-walking app and was contacted by a woman who asked if she could watch her dogs for a few hours. Mark Miller, 62, of Southbridge, was charged with kidnapping, police said. He was held on cash bail during his arraignment at Dudley District Court on Monday. The dog-sitter arrived at the home but met with a man, Miller, outside before entering the residence, police said. The interior of the home was dark and she did not see any dogs inside. Miller stood in front of the door and asked her to go upstairs, police said. The woman was able to run out of the home and drove to the police headquarters. Fight over lottery ticket ends in felony charges for 2 Springfield men
A fight over a lottery ticket ended in an arrest and felony charges for two Springfield men on Monday. At about 1:40 p.m. on July 14, Ludlow Police responded to Gamache Drive for reports of two men, both in their 40s, that appeared to be fighting over a lottery ticket. One of the men was armed with a knife, police said. One of the men had a cut on his arm and was treated at the scene by Ludlow Fire Department Paramedics. There were no other injuries. During a preliminary search of the two men, officers found crack cocaine. The two men were arrested without incident. They were charged with disorderly conduct, assault with a dangerous weapon, which is a felony, and possession of a class B substance. One of the men was also charged with carrying of a dangerous weapon, which is also a felony. One of the men was arraigned in Palmer District Court and pleaded not guilty. He was released on $250 cash bail on Tuesday. The other failed to appear for the arraignment scheduled for Wednesday.
