Two more free concerts are coming to downtown S.F. — here's who's performing
The centerpiece is Empire 15, set for Sept. 13 at Civic Center Plaza, headlined by genre-blurring country-rap artist Shaboozey, Nigerian Afrobeats star Fireboy DML and rising local act Red Leather.
The event, produced in partnership with the San Francisco independent label Empire, highlights some of the fastest-rising names in global pop.
Shaboozey's breakout single 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' recently made chart history as a crossover country and hip-hop hit. Fireboy DML, best known for his global smash 'Peru,' has surpassed a billion streams and collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran and Madonna.
The concert series begins a week earlier on Sept. 7 with the debut of Poolside 's Daytime Disco in Union Square. The event marks the first live iteration of the widely streamed playlist brand created by Jeffrey Paradise, a former San Francisco resident who co-founded Poolside in Los Angeles in 2011.
'These shows aren't just about great performances—they're about making San Francisco's center a destination,' said Phil Ginsburg, general manager of SF Recreation and Parks, in a statement.
The upcoming concerts follow a string of free shows held earlier this season, including Dirtybird at Embarcadero Plaza and Portugal. The Man at Civic Center.
City officials and organizers see the program as part of a broader strategy to use cultural programming to spark economic and social revitalization in a struggling downtown core.
'When we bring energy back downtown, people from across the region come shop at our businesses, eat at our restaurants and drive our economic recovery,' Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement.

Community Comes Together for Halton Black Voices' 4th Annual Cookout Campout Weekend
Families from across the Halton region gathered at Kelso Conservation Area on Saturday, July 26, for a full day of fun, food, and connection at the 4th annual Cookout Campout Weekend, hosted by Halton Black Voices (HBV). The event, which drew more than 200 attendees, was a joyful celebration of culture and community and a much-anticipated send-off to the summer season. This all-ages event provided free entry to the conservation area for Black youth and families and was carefully designed to offer something for everyone. From the moment families arrived, kids were welcomed with hands-on arts and crafts activities, where they could create their works of art as they pleased or with the help of an art instructor. The arts station quickly became a central hub for children to express themselves creatively and make new friends. In addition to the crafts, the day's schedule was packed with opportunities for families to connect. Guests could take part in a peaceful outdoor yoga session or sit back and relax. Music played a central role in creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere, with DJ Icon providing the soundtrack for the day. His mix of 90s tunes, Afrobeats, and classic summer tunes kept the energy high and helped set the tone for a vibrant, culturally rich experience. One major standout of this annual HBV event was the food, and this year's Cookout Campout did not disappoint. Attendees lined up for plates from Wanda's and Sheedah's Catering, who served a delicious menu of traditional Afro-Caribbean dishes that included jerk chicken, oxtail curry, jollof rice, callaloo, and ackee and saltfish. Halton Black Voices ensured the event remained family-focused from start to finish. Volunteers were on hand throughout the day to facilitate activities and ensure that everyone felt welcome and safe. There were nature walks, beach access, games, and open space for relaxation and play, creating a true sense of retreat from the everyday. 'It's incredible to see so many multi-generational communities connecting and families enjoying being outside together,' said one participant. 'The vibes were incredible and made me feel comfortable immediately.' As the sun dipped, the evening closed with a cozy campfire gathering. Families and campers were invited to circle the fire for storytelling, shared laughter, and of course, s'mores, a sweet tradition that many kids looked forward to at the end of the night of the Cookout Campout Weekend. 'This event is about more than just food and music,' said one of the organizers. 'It's about creating safe, joyful spaces for Black families to connect with one another and celebrate culture in a meaningful way.' The success of the event highlights the ongoing importance of accessible, inclusive programming in outdoor public spaces, particularly for underrepresented communities. It also reflects the mission of Halton Black Voices, which continues to lead community-building efforts in the region. Halton Black Voices is a grassroots, Black-led organization dedicated to uplifting Black communities in Halton through advocacy, arts and culture, youth engagement, and public education. ‘The city is ready': S.F. prepares for massive crowds during string of Golden Gate Park concerts
San Francisco police and other city agencies will be out in full force in and around Golden Gate Park for an unprecedented string of concerts over the next three weekends, officials said Thursday. The large-scale events — Dead & Company's shows on Aug 1 -3, the Outside Lands festival on Aug. 8 -10 and the Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon concert on Aug. 15 — are expected to draw more than 450,000 attendees combined in what marks the first time Golden Gate Park hosts concerts three weekends in a row, officials said. 'The San Francisco Police Department will have a full deployment of officers' in and around Golden Gate Park before, during and after the concerts, Interim Police Chief Paul Yep said. 'The San Francisco Police Department and our city partners have been planning for these events for months, and we've been training for any scenario that may occur,' Yep said. 'The city is ready.' He added that Golden Gate Park 'is going to be the safest place in San Francisco.' Sheriff's deputies, park rangers, parking control officers and other city personnel will also be out in full force, along with security guards. 'Our teams are equipped and trained to handle a variety of situations, and we are fully prepared for any emergencies that may arise during these weekends,' Mayor Daniel Lurie said. With crowds expected to fan out into other parts of the city after the shows, Yep said additional officers and city ambassadors will flood neighborhoods near the park, including Haight Street and downtown corridors. While the shows were expected to inconvenience some residents in the area with issues such as heavy traffic and loud noise, the city is prepared to handle complaints, including through a hotline that runs every year for Outside Lands, said Phil Ginsburg, general manager of the Recreation and Park Department. The hotline is 415-965-8001. Ginsberg and Allen Scott, president of concerts and festivals at Another Planet Entertainment, the organizer of the shows for all three weekends, underscored the economic impacts of the shows. The three weekends are expected to pour $150 million into the city's economy, plus $7 million for the Recreation and Park Department, Scott said. Another Planet also donates $25,000 to the Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods, 'as a little bit of a thank you for putting up with a little bit of inconvenience,' Ginsberg said. Lurie said attendees, including out-of-town visitors, stay at hotels, eat at restaurants and visit other small businesses. 'That economic impact stretches across the city,' he said, 'and all San Franciscans feel the benefit.' 'When visitors feel safe and they enjoy their trip, they go home and they tell everybody what we all know: That San Francisco is not only a world-class city, but we are a city on the rise,' Lurie said.
