Jelly Roll & Shaboozey to Headline Australia's Strummingbird Festival
The newly-announced Australian festival Strummingbird has snared a pair of international headliners for its debut, with Jelly Roll and Shaboozey both confirmed to appear. First teased earlier in the month, the nascent Strummingbird festival revealed that it would be making its debut in Australia across late October and early November, with three outings planned across Sunshine Coast, Newcastle and Perth. Both acts have received noted fame in the country in recent times. While Shaboozey's ubiquitous 2024 single 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' topped the Australian ARIA Singles charts last year, Jelly Roll debuted at No. 19 on the Albums charts in 2024 with his latest album, Beautifully Broken. Their inclusion on the bill comes just months after the arrival of the collaborative single 'Amen,' though no confirmation has been given as to whether the pair may perform the track together when in the country. No further Australian dates from the two acts have been announced currently. The lineup continues as a blend of largely American and Australian names, with the likes of Texas' Treaty Oak Revival, Illinois' Drew Baldridge, Tennessee's Julia Cole and Virginian quartet The Jack Wharff Band all crossing the ocean to appear on the bill. Meanwhile, local representation is offered by the likes of James Johnston, Wade Forster, Kaylee Bell, Matt Hansen, The Dreggs, and others. A slight vibe shift will also take place across the evening thanks to perennial festival favorite Hot Dub Time Machine, who will reportedly add a 'country and rock-and-roll twist' to his DJ sets; and Y.O.G.A., which is the solo project of Reuben Styles of ARIA Award-winning duo Peking Duk. Presented by Kicks Entertainment and Live Nation, Strummingbird is organized by the same team behind the Spilt Milk festival, which will tour the country in December with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Doechii and more on the lineup. Two more free concerts are coming to downtown S.F. — here's who's performing
Outside Lands promoter Another Planet Entertainment has announced the final two installments of its free 2025 concert series, part of a continuing initiative to bring life and foot traffic back to downtown San Francisco. The centerpiece is Empire 15, set for Sept. 13 at Civic Center Plaza, headlined by genre-blurring country-rap artist Shaboozey, Nigerian Afrobeats star Fireboy DML and rising local act Red Leather. The event, produced in partnership with the San Francisco independent label Empire, highlights some of the fastest-rising names in global pop. Shaboozey's breakout single 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' recently made chart history as a crossover country and hip-hop hit. Fireboy DML, best known for his global smash 'Peru,' has surpassed a billion streams and collaborated with artists such as Ed Sheeran and Madonna. The concert series begins a week earlier on Sept. 7 with the debut of Poolside 's Daytime Disco in Union Square. The event marks the first live iteration of the widely streamed playlist brand created by Jeffrey Paradise, a former San Francisco resident who co-founded Poolside in Los Angeles in 2011. 'These shows aren't just about great performances—they're about making San Francisco's center a destination,' said Phil Ginsburg, general manager of SF Recreation and Parks, in a statement. The upcoming concerts follow a string of free shows held earlier this season, including Dirtybird at Embarcadero Plaza and Portugal. The Man at Civic Center. City officials and organizers see the program as part of a broader strategy to use cultural programming to spark economic and social revitalization in a struggling downtown core. 'When we bring energy back downtown, people from across the region come shop at our businesses, eat at our restaurants and drive our economic recovery,' Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement.

US country hip-hop stars to headline new Perth festival
Jelly Roll and Shaboozey are set to perform in Australia for the first time at Strummingbird — an inaugural country music festival. Festival organisers dropped the star-studded lineup on Thursday after announcing the new event last week, which will hit the Sunshine Coast on October 25 and Newcastle on November 1 before stopping in Perth at Claremont Showgrounds on November 2. Headliner Jelly Roll will head Down Under for Strummingbird, from the team behind Spilt Milk, marking his first-ever visit here. Global sensation Shaboozey will also make his Aussie debut, alongside the likes of Treaty Oak Revival, James Johnston, Kaylee Bell, Matt Hansen and Hot Dub Time Machine with a rock and country-centric set. It's exciting news for fans after four-time Grammy-nominated Jelly Roll's latest album, Beautifully Broken, debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 charts last year. Beyond music, the Nashville-born star has built a stalwart community of fans across the globe through the release of his record-breaking ABC News documentary Save Me. Meanwhile, Shaboozey is sure to get the crowd hyped up with his viral track A Bar Song (Tipsy), which held the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks. Unfortunately, Texan country rock outfit Treaty Oak Revival will deliver a blend of Southern rock and punk to the East Coast only, but Aussie James Johnston will bring his modern country style to all cities. Rachael Fahim is another standout addition to the lineup, consistently ranking as one of the most-streamed Aussie female country artists over the past three years, second only to Kasey Chambers. Credit: Supplied Wrapping up the celebrity sets but keeping the party vibes going is Hot Dub Time Machine who will host a Late Night Riot across all dates. The homegrown party favourite is set to take festivalgoers on a musical journey through time with a country and rock and roll twist. Not only are world-class music acts on offer, but punters can also saddle up for a mechanical bull ride or get rowdy in the Howdy Howdy Saloon for line dancing with Maddison Glover.

Strummingbird festival to feature Shaboozey, Jelly Roll and other country stars
It's been a rough couple of years for music festivals. But Australia's love of country music is helping buck the trend (no pun intended) with the announcement of brand new country music festival Strummingbird, featuring an impressive roster of exciting international and local talent. It's been long rumoured, but prolific genre-bending country star Jelly Roll has finally locked in his first Australian tour, headlining the first instalment of Strummingbird, which hits the Sunshine Coast, Newcastle and Perth in October and November. Even if you don't know songs such as 'Liar', 'Need A Favour' and 'Son Of A Sinner' by name, they have been so enormous and omnipresent that you'll certainly know his voice when you hear it. His enormous raspy croon imbues every song with a hard-worn sense of soul that is clearly a result of a hell of a life lived so far. The Tennessee singer is in the final stages of playing enormous venues in the US as part of Post Malone's Big Ass Stadium tour, so you can bet he'll be in excellent touch when he makes it to Australia for the very first time in October. Most of us first heard Shaboozey when he popped up on Beyoncé's 2024 album Cowboy Carter. It wasn't long before he made a massive splash on his own though, with his irresistible hip-hop-tinged take on country exploding worldwide via the irresistible 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)'. In terms of sales, that song was the biggest of 2024 in the US, and second biggest in Australia, and while he hasn't exactly set the charts alight with any other tracks since, his third album Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going proved that this man is no flash in the pan. The record is a beautiful display of where country is going, pulling in sounds from various other styles of music to culminate in a truly We don't want to jump to any conclusions, but given the two headliners have worked together in the past, we can't help but wonder if we'll get to see them team up at these shows … There's plenty of gold beyond those headliners too. Texan country rockers Treaty Oak Revival make their Australian debut as part of the festival and their gritty take on country will go down a treat. In keeping with the musical diversity of the headliners, their most recent show was part of the punk-filled Vans Warped Tour line up in California, which should give you a sense that they are another act rewriting the rules on what country can be. Fans will also catch world-class talent like James Johnston, Kaylee Bell, Wade Forster, Julia Cole, The Dreggs and more — scroll down for the full line-up. As well as a striking list of international and local country stars, the festival promises all the trimmings country fans will want, including linedancing, barbecue, a mechanical bull and more. Australian music fans are in for a fruitful end of the year, with an endless parade of acclaimed musicians all set to hit our shores in coming months. Before the year is through, we'll see AC/DC, Metallica, Oasis, Kendrick Lamar, Mariah Carey, Tyler, The Creator, Pixies, Crowded House and many more on our shores. Not to mention the other music festivals yet to release their line-ups for late 2025 and early 2026. A busy touring calendar can be a double-edged sword for music fans. While we've rarely had this many opportunities to see so much esteemed talent in such a short space of time, it can weight heavily on the wallets of gig-goers who are financially bound to pick and choose the events and artists they will support. Strummingbird remains an unknown proposition, but given its focus on areas outside of major cities and a specific form of music, as well as their decision to include massively popular artists who have never played in Australia before, there is reason to have hope that this type of curated event will find its audience. Time will tell. There has long been healthy support for country music in Australia, but the love for the genre has exploded in recent years. Strummingbird is just the latest in a long line of country music events that have taken over the Australian festival calendar in recent years. Alongside well-loved properties like CMC Rocks, Gympie Muster, Tamworth Country Music Festival and the likes, newer events like Ridin' Hearts, Savannah in the Round, Groundwater and Dashville have all come into the market to satisfy a certain This event does position itself a little differently to the others, with an unashamed focus on younger country music audiences who aren't afraid of artists who stray well away from the traditions of the form. While country music is definitely in vogue right now, there's no reason to expect that this is a fad that will fade away. This style of music has endured for longer than most, and with acts like those on the Strummingbird line-up reshaping what the genre can sound like, there's no end to the possibilities of its growth. Here's the full line-up for the Strummingbird festival: Shaboozey, Jelly Roll, Treaty Oak Revival (not playing Perth), James Johnston, Kaylee Bell, Matt Hansen, Drew Baldridge, Julia Cole, The Jack Wharff Band (not playing Sunshine Coast), The Dreggs, Wade Forster, Zac & George, Rachael Fahim, Denvah, Late Night Riot With Hot Dub Time Machine (Sunshine Coast), Y.O.G.A (Newcastle) Here's where it's happening: Saturday 25 October — Kawana Sports Precinct, Kabi Kabi Land, Sunshine Coast Saturday 1 November — Newcastle Foreshore, Awabakal Land, Newcastle Sunday 2 November — Claremont Showground, Whadjuk Noongar Land, Perth Tickets are on sale from Friday 8 August.
