50 rural innovators showcase ideas to global investors in the US
Organised by the International Startup Foundation (ISF), based in Bengaluru, the summit was part of a two-day event that also featured the Global AI Summit. The initiative received an overwhelming response from tech leaders, startup founders, and investors from across the US.
The 50 student innovators, termed 'Junicorns' (junior unicorns), were shortlisted from over 1,000 applicants through a six-month rigorous selection and mentoring process. Their ideas, covering diverse domains such as agriculture, health tech, sustainability, and education, were developed into pitch-ready prototypes with the support of ISF. The foundation also facilitated their travel to the United States.
'The idea behind Junicorns is to encourage young rural innovators from India by giving them global exposure so that they can eventually evolve into successful entrepreneurs and become role models for youth in rural areas,' said JA Chowdary, Founder of ISF and the key force behind the initiative.
'This summit provided me with a global platform to pitch my idea. Several investors showed serious interest in supporting my innovation.' said a rural innovator from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.
The ISF announced its next step—to build a global mentor network connecting summit attendees and industry leaders to support these Junicorns in turning their ideas into scalable startups.
The event concluded with the Global AI Summit, where technology leaders and CEOs discussed the transformative role of artificial intelligence across industries. The summit saw vibrant discussions on AI's applications in healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and education, underlining its relevance in shaping future innovations.
Both summits highlight ISF's commitment to bridging rural innovation with global opportunities, demonstrating how talent from India's heartland can make an impact on the world stage when empowered with the right platform and mentorship.

Google DeepMind hires Windsurf CEO as OpenAI's $3 billion acquisition collapses
Google parent Alphabet has struck a deal to acquire top talent and licensing rights from AI coding startup Windsurf, according to a Bloomberg report. The tech giant will not take a stake in Windsurf but its top executives including CEO Varun Mohan and co-founder Douglas Chen have been hired to work at Google's DeepMind unit. Notably, Windsurf had previously agreed to be acquired by OpenAI for $3 billion. The deal, however, fell apart reportedly due to ChatGPT maker's tensions wit Microsoft - it's biggest investor. OpenAI didn't want Microsoft to use Windsurf's intellectual property and it turned out to be one of the sticking points in the two companies' talks as OpenAI restructures to a commercial entity. As per the existing agreement Microsoft has wit OpenAI, it is entitled to access the AI startup's technology. The Bloomberg report quoted an OpenAI spokesperson as confirming that the exclusivity period on the acquisition offer had lapsed which left Windsurf free to consider other bids. Chris Pappas, a Google spokesperson while confirming the development to The Verge, said, 'Gemini is one of the best models available and we've been investing in its advanced capabilities for developers,' 'We're excited to welcome some top AI coding talent from Windsurf's team to Google DeepMind to advance our work in agentic coding.' He added. 'We are proud of what Windsurf has built over the last four years and are excited to see it move forward with their world class team and kick-start the next phase.' Mohan and Chen said in a statement quoted by The Verge. Windsurf is a among a number of new age companies that have build AI based coding assistants to allow users to write code based on natural language prompts. The startup was founded in 2021 and since then it has raised over $200 million from investors like Greenoaks Captial Partners and AIX Ventures.

Using Gemini 2.5 Pro to validate information across PDFs
In many business processes, especially in finance or legal operations, validating information across multiple PDFs is a recurring nightmare. It often means switching between documents like contracts, compliance checklists, and payment receipts—each stored in different formats, layouts, or systems. Whether it's checking if figures match, confirming dates, or verifying signatories, these manual cross-checks are tedious, prone to human error, and almost impossible to do at scale. For example, in large enterprises, shared service organizations often process hundreds of invoices every month, each requiring validation across multiple PDF documents. Processing invoices isn't just about checking numbers. Each invoice needs to match with a purchase order and a goods receipt note—three separate PDF files per transaction. Doing this manually is slow, error-prone, and frustrating. Manual checks delay payments, create approval bottlenecks, and lead to frequent errors in compliance and vendor reconciliation. How can Gemini 2.5 Pro help here? How to access: Example Imagine you've uploaded three documents related to a vendor transaction: an invoice, a purchase order, and a goods receipt note. Prompt: You are an accounts-payable automation expert. Help me do the invoice processing using the following framework. Invoice processing framework: 1. Document classification and data extraction 2.
