Ireland considering hosting global AI summit
The Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence is expected to hear today that the Government is giving consideration to Ireland hosting a Global AI Summit next year, similar to an event which was held in Paris in February. The AI Action Summit saw world leaders, tech CEOs and academics gathering to discuss how to safely embrace AI. The conference highlighted the divisions that exist between the EU and the US when it comes to the regulation of the technology. The AI Committee will today hear from the Minister of State for Trade Promotion, AI and Digital Transformation Niamh Smyth. "We look forward to engaging with the Minister about her plans for Ireland's EU Presidency and how Ireland can lead on AI innovation globally," said Cathaoirleach of the Committee Malcolm Byrne. Ms Smyth will also discuss Ireland's National AI Strategy "AI: Here For Good," which was published in 2021 and updated in November 2024. The EU Artificial Intelligence Act, and its implementation in Ireland, is also on the agenda. "The Committee looks forward to discussing the strategy and the EU AI Act in depth and the implementation of stringent conditions on AI systems for this revolutionary technology to work effectively in areas such as biometric identification, decision-making for public and private services and benefits and machinery," Mr Byrne said.

334,000 Saudis trained in AI under national upskilling drive
More than 300,000 Saudis have been trained in AI concepts since 2024 under a national program/Representative Image A total of 334,000 Saudi citizens have now completed artificial intelligence (AI) training under a national initiative launched by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The 'One Million Saudis in AI' program, launched in September 2024, aims to equip citizens across all age groups and professional backgrounds with essential AI knowledge and skills. The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's broader digital transformation strategy to prepare its workforce for the future. Speaking during the Non-Profit Sector Forum in Education and Training 2025, held in Riyadh on July 2, SDAIA President Abdullah Alghamdi highlighted the major milestones achieved so far. He emphasised the significance of inter-agency cooperation in enhancing Saudi Arabia's global position in AI empowerment, particularly in promoting women's participation and raising community awareness. Among the key outcomes of the program is the SAMAI initiative, launched at the Global AI Summit, which provides customised AI learning paths for a diverse audience. SDAIA also introduced the 'Road to ATHKA' initiative, which trained more than 570,000 students on foundational AI concepts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo This was complemented by the 'Future Intelligence Programmers' program, which targeted educators, training over 10,000 teachers in AI instruction. Another major achievement was the National Olympiad for Programming and Artificial Intelligence (ATHKA), which saw the participation of more than 260,000 students from intermediate and secondary schools. Of those, 10,000 advanced to the final stage of the competition. To further strengthen AI integration into education, SDAIA and the Ministry of Education jointly established the Centre for Excellence in Education. The centre is focused on institutionalising AI-based learning, sustaining future-ready academic initiatives, and improving student outcomes through smart technologies. The program continues to serve as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 objectives, aiming to boost digital literacy, foster innovation, and build a tech-enabled knowledge economy.

In a boost with global standard, Saudi Arabia joins OECD Recommendation on AI
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has announced that Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), has joined its Recommendation on Artificial Intelligence, the first international standard in the field. The recommendation aims to foster innovation and build trust in AI technologies through responsible governance, including generative and general AI. OECD is an intergovernmental organization, with 38 member countries, founded in 1961, to stimulate economic progress and world trade. Saudi Arabia is among 10 non-OECD member states to adopt this recommendation, boosting its global efforts, led by SDAIA, to enhance AI governance. Saudi Arabia had previously partnered with OECD to launch the Arabic-language MENA Observatory on Responsible AI during the third edition of the Global AI Summit held in Riyadh. Also, the Kingdom ranked third globally, after the United States and the United Kingdom, in the OECD's AI Policy Observatory. It was also one of the first countries to adopt UNESCO's 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and completed the readiness assessment officially published by UNESCO in December 2024. This achievement reflects SDAIA's comprehensive approach to the development, governance, and regulation of AI through an integrated framework combining legislation, ethical standards, and national and international initiatives. SDAIA continues to support AI research, development, and innovation while advancing regulatory frameworks that ensure ethical use, responsible deployment, and strong governance in line with the best global practices in support of Saudi Vision 2030. SDAIA has issued several key regulatory guidelines to govern AI applications, including the Generative AI Guidelines for the Public, the Generative AI Guidelines for Government Entities, the AI Adoption Framework, the Deepfakes Guidelines, and the Personal Data Protection Law. The authority has also granted accreditation to more than 45 AI-specialized companies within the Kingdom to stimulate the local AI market and boost trust in its applications. Also, SDAIA has played an active role in the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence and hosted the world's largest consultation session in Riyadh for the report titled 'Governing AI for Humanity.' These efforts culminated in the establishment of the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) in Riyadh under the umbrella of UNESCO. The center is dedicated to advancing research on AI ethics, fostering international cooperation, and solidifying the Kingdom's leadership in shaping the future of responsible AI governance.

50 rural innovators showcase ideas to global investors in the US
Austin (USA): In a major boost to rural innovation, 50 student innovators from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka showcased their startup ideas to global investors and corporate leaders at the Global Junicorn Summit held recently at Texas State University in San Marcos, near Austin. Organised by the International Startup Foundation (ISF), based in Bengaluru, the summit was part of a two-day event that also featured the Global AI Summit. The initiative received an overwhelming response from tech leaders, startup founders, and investors from across the US. The 50 student innovators, termed 'Junicorns' (junior unicorns), were shortlisted from over 1,000 applicants through a six-month rigorous selection and mentoring process. Their ideas, covering diverse domains such as agriculture, health tech, sustainability, and education, were developed into pitch-ready prototypes with the support of ISF. The foundation also facilitated their travel to the United States. 'The idea behind Junicorns is to encourage young rural innovators from India by giving them global exposure so that they can eventually evolve into successful entrepreneurs and become role models for youth in rural areas,' said JA Chowdary, Founder of ISF and the key force behind the initiative. 'This summit provided me with a global platform to pitch my idea. Several investors showed serious interest in supporting my innovation.' said a rural innovator from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. The ISF announced its next step—to build a global mentor network connecting summit attendees and industry leaders to support these Junicorns in turning their ideas into scalable startups. The event concluded with the Global AI Summit, where technology leaders and CEOs discussed the transformative role of artificial intelligence across industries. The summit saw vibrant discussions on AI's applications in healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and education, underlining its relevance in shaping future innovations. Both summits highlight ISF's commitment to bridging rural innovation with global opportunities, demonstrating how talent from India's heartland can make an impact on the world stage when empowered with the right platform and mentorship.
