Tributes paid to elderly sisters killed in collision while on ‘morning walk'
The women, aged 70 and 68, both died after colliding with the blue Volkswagen Tiguan on Peppard Road in Caversham, Reading, at around 7.55am on Friday, Thames Valley Police (TVP) said.
In a statement shared by the force on Tuesday, the family of the victims, named as Sandra and Sylvia, said they were 'two of the most loving, caring women you would ever meet'.
They said: 'It is such a tragedy that these two lives have been taken away and knowing they were taken whilst they were doing what they loved best – their morning walks, it just hits harder.
'Every Friday morning, the sisters would go for a walk, down to the town and back home. But unfortunately this Friday was different.
'They were both healthy and full of life, with future plans. They both had holidays, adventures and were soon welcoming new additions, great grandchildren, to the family.
'They are and will forever be missed and loved more than ever by family and friends.'
The surnames of the victims were not released by the family.
A 47-year-old woman from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident, TVP said.
Investigating officer PS Matthew Cadmore said on Friday: 'An investigation has been launched and we have already made an arrest.
'I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident and hasn't already come forward, to please get in touch.
'I am also appealing to anyone with dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell footage, or any information that may assist our investigation, to please contact us.'

‘They know the community up here is with them,' former neighbors of Chapin family react to plea deal
The story of the 4 college students killed in Moscow, Idaho, hits home in Western Washington. Ethan Chapin, one of the students killed, grew up in Skagit County before attending the University of Idaho. The Chapin family did move away from the area several years ago, but that doesn't mean people have forgotten who the family was prior to the tragedy. 'I just remember those 3 little triplets running around in their yard up there,' Lisa Anderson, a former neighbor of the Chapins, said. Anderson says she also remembers seeing the Chapin triplets getting on and off the school bus. She of course isn't the only former neighbor KIRO7 spoke with that had nothing but nice things to say about Chapin family and Ethan. 'And they are an excellent family. They were all hard working, the kids,' Bonnie Thompson, another previous neighbor, said. Thompson says what happened to Ethan nearly three years ago still weighs incredibly heavy not only for her neighborhood, but really all of Mount Vernon and Skagit County. 'It's a very sad thing that's happened to a good family,' Thompson said. Many people in the county both on and off the record shared some strong feelings about the plea deal reached with suspected murderer Bryan Kohberger. Some hope the plea deal will help give the family closure, while others feel it isn't enough. 'No, I don't agree with that at all. He killed all of those kids,' Anderson said. Although there are mixed reactions about this plea deal, those who know and remember the Chapin family tell KIRO7 they will always have their backs. 'They know the community up here is with them,' Thompson said. 'And the whole neighborhood will always remember those kids,' Anderson said. 1-year-old girl drowns in pool at Jensen Beach home
JENSEN BEACH — A 1-year-old girl drowned in a pool at a Jensen Beach home the afternoon of July 1, according to law enforcement and rescue officials. Just after 3:30 p.m., Martin County Fire Rescue received a call about a toddler found in a pool in the 200 block of Northeast Flax Terrace in Jensen Beach, according to Fire Rescue spokesperson Cory Pippin. He said Martin County Sheriff's Office deputies were first on scene. Fire rescue crews arrived shortly after and took over medical treatment and began the process of preparing the girl for transportation. The call came from the girl's grandmother initially reporting a missing child, Sheriff John Budensiek said. While on the call, dispatchers asked her if she had a pool and if she had checked it for the child. He said she went out and looked around the area of the pool and did not notice her grandchild, but moments later dispatch heard her screaming 'Oh my God' several times before the phone line cut off. The girl was transported to Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital in Stuart. She was pronounced dead, sheriff's spokesperson Christine Christofek said. "There is no way to express the grief, the despair, and the hopelessness of doing CPR on an infant child," Budensiek said. "Our deputies, these fire rescue people, these nurses have all took turns shedding tears after doing their best to save a life." The Sheriff's Office was still investigating the house the evening of July 1 and "trying to piece everything together," he said. "This is three drownings in three weeks," Budensiek said. "These are horrific incidents that we're trying to process." On June 14, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 3400 block of Southeast Hawthorne Street in Stuart regarding a 5-year-old boy who drowned in his neighbor's swimming pool, according to the incident report. On June 13, the Martin County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the 9000 block of Southeast Mars Street in Hobe Sound regarding a 2-year-old girl who drowned in her family's swimming pool, according to the incident report.
