A Blackstone executive was among the four people killed in a shooting that took place Monday night at the firm's New York City office, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday. Wesley LePatner was a senior managing director and global head of Blackstone's Core+ Real Estate and CEO of its Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust. LePatner was shot and killed Monday night at 345 Park Avenue, the office building the firm shares with the NFL. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, killed four people, including LePatner and NYPD officer Didarul Islam, before shooting and killing himself. Tamura entered the building around 6:30 p.m. ET and began shooting throughout the lobby before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor, which houses the offices of real estate firm Rudin Management, which owns 345 Park Avenue, according to statements from the NYPD made during a press conference on Monday night. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said during the press conference that a suicide note found on the body the gunman implied that he was targeting the NFL. "He alluded to having CTE from playing in the NFL—he never played in the NFL,' Adams said in a television interview Tuesday with a local Fox affiliate. 'He alluded to the CTE being the reason for his illness.' CTE, or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, is a brain disease linked with high-impact head injuries. An NFL employee was in critical condition on Tuesday, according to a letter sent to NFL staff from commissioner Roger Goodell. LePatner had worked at Blackstone for just shy of 11 years, according to her LinkedIn, and previously worked in several roles across Goldman Sachs' real estate division. "Words cannot express the devastation we feel," Blackstone said in a statement. "She was brilliant, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond. President Trump mourned the loss of four people who were gunned down Monday night by a madman who stormed a sprawling office building in Midtown and opened fire. 'I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love,' Trump said on Truth Social Tuesday morning. 'I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice.' NYC Midtown shooting timeline NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch provided a timeline of events leading up to Monday's mass shooting: Reports of the shooting at 345 Park Ave. start coming in around 6:28 p.m. The shooter, Shane Tamura, 27, is seen on surveillance footage getting out of a double-parked black BMW between 51st and 52nd streets, with an M4 rifle. He walks towards the skyscraper, enters the lobby and turns right, where he shoots police officer Didarul Islam, 36, dead. Tamura guns down a woman cowering behind a pillar in the lobby as he sprays more bullets and walks toward the elevator bank — where he shoots dead a security guard crouching at his desk. One more man reports being shot and injured in the lobby. He was in critical but stable condition. The gunman allows a woman to walk out of the elevators unharmed, before heading up to the 33rd floor, where building owner Rudin Properties' offices are located, 'and begins to walk the floor, firing as he traveled.' One man is shot and killed on that floor. 'He then proceeds down a hallway and shoots himself in the chest,' ending his rampage. It's unclear how long the mayhem lasted. Tisch posted on X at 7:52 p.m.: 'The scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.' Tamura, who came from Las Vegas, had driven across the country to carry out the massacre. Tamura died from a self-inflicted gunshot and was found with a suicide note, according to authorities.

NYPD: Slain officer ‘represented the very best of our department'
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) said the slain officer, who was killed in a Manhattan skyscraper shooting, represented 'the very best of our department.' 'Police Officer Didarul Islam represented the very best of our department. He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today,' the NYPD said in a Monday night statement. 'We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honor his legacy.' The shooter, who was pronounced dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas. He allegedly opened fire in a high-rise building Monday, killing four people, including Islam, an NYPD officer who was with the department for over three years. Another person was also injured in the shooting. The building, located in Midtown, houses the NFL headquarters, along with Blackstone and the offices of KPMG Islam was assigned to the 47th Precinct in the Bronx. He was an immigrant from Bangladesh who was married with two kids. His wife is pregnant with their third child. 'He was doing what he does best, and all members of the police department carry out. 'He made the ultimate sacrifice, shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for the promise that he made to this city,' Tisch stated. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said Islam 'represented the very best of New York.' 'An immigrant from Bangladesh, he joined the NYPD to protect his city — and gave his life doing so. He leaves behind a wife, two young sons and a third child on the way,' Hochul said in a Monday night post on social platform X. 'We hold his family in our prayers tonight.' Flags in the five New York City boroughs will be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims, according to the mayor.
