The Hoops will kick off their Premiership campaign at home to St Mirren on Sunday
Celtic have announced that Paul McStay will kick off this weekend's celebrations by unfurling the league flag at Parkhead.

The Hoops begin their quest for five-in-a-row as the Premiership campaign gets underway in Sunday's curtain-raiser at home to St Mirren.

And the champions have confirmed that legendary midfielder McStay will take centre stage before kick off.

The Maestro - who now lives in Sydney, Australia - will be given a rapturous welcome by a sold-out Paradise as he returns to celebrate Celtic's 55th title.
Boss Brendan Rodgers said: 'Paul was a great player. He always gave you hope watching Celtic.
"You always felt that, in those tough times when Celtic maybe suffered a bit, he could produce that moment of magic.
"He was a brilliant player, a really humble guy and I have been fortunate enough to have met him.
'That was a real privilege and a real honour for me. He will get an incredible reception, and it will be amazing to see him again.'

One-club man McStay dedicated his entire career to Celtic and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have pulled on the green and white jersey.
McStay racked up almost 700 appearances for his beloved club - the third most in Celtic's history behind Billy McNeill and Alec McNair.
The Centenary idol stuck by the club during the barren years through the 90s and captained Tommy Burns' side to Scottish Cup glory in 1995, ending a six-year trophy drought.

Aberdeen's Alfie Dorrington feels he can be even better than last season

Alfie Dorrington reckons he will be an even better defender for Aberdeen this season than he was in his fruitful loan stint last term. The 20-year-old made 16 appearances for the Dons after joining from Tottenham in January, with the last of those a standout display in the stunning Scottish Cup final triumph over Celtic in May. Dorrington returned to Aberdeen last month on a season-long loan and he believes his experience of playing in the Premiership last season can help him kick on to new heights. 'Yes, 100 per cent,' he said. 'I felt every game I was improving with the run of games, which helped me become more confident. 'At first, I was just trying to settle in. But then, when you feel like you get the trust of the team, the fans, the staff, I think it brings out a new side to my game.' Dorrington was delighted to get the chance to return to Aberdeen. 'I just loved it so much,' he said of last season's spell at Pittodrie. 'I got a good run of games towards the end of the season and finished on a high. 'I just want to build more momentum. Obviously, I'm familiar with the boys, the staff, the city. When I found out that I had the opportunity, it was a no-brainer to come back.' The Dons kick off their league campaign on Monday away to a Hearts side now under the charge of their long-time former manager Derek McInnes. Jambos defender Frankie Kent is hoping his side, who finished seventh last term, can capitalise on the optimism generated at Tynecastle this summer amid the arrival of McInnes, a raft of new players, and the involvement of Brighton owner Tony Bloom, who is now a minority investor in the club. 'We want to try and get back to the levels that we hit the previous year (when finishing third) and I think the levels that everyone expects and the levels that we know we're capable of,' said centre-back Kent. 'It's been touched on so many times that last year wasn't good enough and it wasn't what we wanted. But it's a fresh start, it's a new season and a season to be excited about.' Motherwell vs Rangers LIVE score and goal updates from Premiership opener at Fir Park

A new season, new hope - and for Rangers a new era. There have been plenty of false dawns at Ibrox in recent years but will it be different this time? Russell Martin leads the Light Blues into the 2025/26 season with Rangers now under the ownership of 49ers Enterprises following a summer takeover. Martin, who has already negotiated his way through the first Champions League qualifier, will get his first taste of domestic action as a manager with a short trip to Motherwell. And he will come up against his old Norwich City team-mate Jens Berthel Askou as the Steelmen also kick off the campaign under a nee boss following Michael Wimmer's departure. It's three years since Rangers won an opening Premiership game and Martin will be desperate to avoid another false start that kills the early season enthusiasm. There is also the small matter of trying to get a confidence booster ahead of their next Champions League qualifying challenge against Viktoria Plzen. 14:19Gavin Berry A big Ask for Well Jens Berthel Askou hopes to upset Rangers' favourites tag, and get his reign as Motherwell boss off to a flying start. Askou goes toe-to-toe with former Norwich City team-mate Russell Martin at Fir Park for the tea-time kick-off, and says going up against one of Scottish football's giants is a great way to kick off their Premiership campaign. But having watched them overcome Greek side Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifiers, Askou knows that won't be easy. It's always good to start against a top side and really get on your toes from the beginning and get that big test that you're always looking for. You want to compete at the highest level and against the best teams possible, and that's what we get the chance to do. It's about getting a good start. A good start is a good performance where we see there is potential in what we're doing. If we can top that off with a great result, even a win, that will make us even happier, and that is what we will try to do. We're adding quality in what we do every week, and for every game, and we know it's going to be a very big test on Saturday, against a top side that has just performed very well against a really good opponent over two legs. We know we're not the favourites, but it doesn't mean we can't make a result and a good performance, which is what I'm looking to do. I wouldn't say it's an easy job to come up against Glasgow Rangers, no matter what. I know Russell more than I know some of the other coaches, but I haven't played against him before. I expect us to try and do what we want to do, and not let the level of Rangers, or difficulty in playing against a top side, stress us and take away our courage, instead of trying to do it very basically, with fear, and stepping away from our principles. I expect us to do that in a very good way, through many phases of the game, and also for it to be very difficult to do what we want to do on and off the ball, at times. 'That's when we have to be really good, when we feel the game is getting tough and we're making more mistakes, while Rangers are showing their abilities. That's when we have to help each other, and I hope and expect that everyone around us and behind us will help us through these periods. But we've shown to ourselves and whoever has been here to watch us, follow us and support us, that we're in a better place than when we started. 12:44Ross Pilcher Third time lucky? Russell Martin might be a football purist. But while he's in charge at Rangers, he knows he'll be judged on one thing only - winning. And as he prepares for his first crack at the Scottish Premiership as a gaffer, he's convinced he can mould the Ibrox outfit into title contenders. He's only 57 days into the job as manager. At his press conference ahead of today's league opener at Motherwell, he joked that he should still be enjoying pre-season instead of fretting over three points. Unfortunately, that goes with the territory of being Rangers gaffer. In midweek, whilst not anywhere near their best, his team dug out a draw in Athens against Panathinaikos to progress in Champions League qualifying. Martin's pride in that result didn't necessarily come from the performance. After a summer of seismic change, it was their ability to find a way to win. The manager is still in the early stages of implementing a new style of play at Ibrox. They're miles away from where he wants them to be and he's adamant there will be more new signings before the transfer window closes. But while all of this is going on, he has to win football matches. And - then failed to recover sufficiently to challenge for the title - his team will have to do the same in Lanarkshire. 12:42Ross Pilcher Rangers the team to beat says Rothwell Joe Rothwell says everyone wants to beat Russell Martin's new-look Rangers - but insists they're ready to get off to a Premiership flyer against Motherwell. The Ibrox midfielder has already helped the club navigate a difficult Champions League qualifying tie against Panathinaikos. And now he's gearing up for their league opener at Fir Park on Saturday night. Rothwell expects it to be frantic in Lanarkshire with The Steelmen out to spoil Gers' Premiership start. But the 30-year-old - who arrived from Bournemouth this summer - is adamant that Martin's men can compete with Celtic for the title.

Celtic hero Odsonne Edouard ‘finally finds new club as striker ends transfer speculation with stunning move'

ODSONNE EDOUARD is finally closing in on a move away from Crystal Palace and will leave England altogether in a stunning swoop, it's being claimed. The Celtic hero is set to end his Selhurst Park nightmare after four years down south, joining the club from the Hoops back in 2021. 2 Odsonne Edouard has endured a difficult spell at Selhurst Park Credit: Reuters 2 The striker is on his way out Credit: Getty Out-of-favour Edouard, 27, hasn't played for Palace since last August as he was shipped out on loan to Leicester City last season. But things didn't improve for the Frenchman at the King Power stadium as he remained a backup option for the Foxes and wasn't favoured by Rudd van Nistelrooy when he took charge in November. He hasn't kicked a ball since coming off the bench as a substitute in the 88th minute against Manchester United that same month. But Edouard will be hoping to get his career back on track in his first move away from the UK since leaving PSG to join Celtic initially on loan in 2017 - then permanently the following year. The striker is believed to be on his way to Spain for the first time of his career. According to FootMercato, Edouard is set to be announced as Girona's newest recruit in a surprise swap deal. It's stated that the forward will move to the La Liga club for around €6million (£5.2m), while Arnau Martinez will head in the other direction in a deal worth around €10million (£8.7m). It's a move that will see the Frenchman link up with former Aberdeen hitman Bojan Miovski. The two players have something in common - other than both being strikers. Aside from that, they are two players who Celtic fans have been urging Brendan Rodgers to sign in recent months. Celtic transfer special as Rodgers lands SEVENTH signing, Hoops eye winger & left-back latest Miovski was a target for the Hoops when he left Pittodrie for Girona last year, while Celtic fans have been crying out for Edouard's return this summer. Rodgers has been hunting for a striker since January and could still sign another before the end of the window, despite already landing Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand. Rodgers was the manager who brought Edouard to Glasgow eight years ago and he's been linked with a return swoop for the hitman all summer. He did, however, confirm last month that he WASN'T looking at a deal for the former fan favourite. Rodgers said: 'Odsonne hasn't been on my radar, to be fair. 'I obviously know him but it's about a player who will fit into the structure of the team.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
