Contractors fined Rs 5l each for no diesel in LDA bldgs' generator

Time of India8 hours ago
Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on the maintenance contractor over power disruptions and generator backup in two apartments, Sargam and Janeshwar Enclave.
The penalty followed a major inconvenience faced by residents of the apartments on Kursi Road after diesel was not filled in the backup DG sets during a power outage on June 30.
The action was taken by Lucknow Development Authority vice chairman Prathamesh Kumar.
It was informed by the vice chairman that both apartment complexes were constructed by the LDA, and their maintenance was managed by the LDA through contractors.
On June 30, a fault at the power substation caused an interruption in electricity supply. During the outage, the operation of diesel generator sets was expected to be ensured by the contractor. However, due to diesel not being refilled, backup power could not be provided.
As a result, the residents were left without essential services such as lift operations and water supply, for which the executing agency was held fully responsible. In light of this gross negligence, a fine of Rs 5 lakh each was levied on the contractor for both apartment complexes. The chief engineer, Navneet Sharma, was directed to personally inspect the premises and ensure the resolution of all existing issues so that such problems are not faced by residents in the future.
"We are committed to giving the best of services for the allottees. Any negligence will not be tolerated. If any such incidents are reported in future, strict action will be taken," the LDA VC said.

T Nagar flyover delayed again; deadline now Sept

Chennai: Despite earlier promises, the 1.2-km-long T Nagar flyover project missed yet another deadline, pushing completion to Sept. The latest holdup is that Greater Chennai Corporation says it is unable to procure "interblocks" pre-cast concrete units used to link sections of bridges and ensure uniform surface continuity to connect the old Usman Road bridge with the newly built CIT Nagar structure. Originally slated for completion in Dec 2024, the 131-crore project was later promised for May 2025 by municipal administration minister K N Nehru in the state budget. Deputy mayor Mahesh Kumar now, however, says it will be ready by Aug, while the contractor claims a more realistic timeline is the end of September. On Wednesday, the corporation released drone images of the flyover, claiming that only blacktopping, streetlight installation, and median work remain. But a ground visit by TOI showed otherwise. Key structural work particularly connecting the old and new flyovers near Ranganathan Street was not yet carried out. Downramps at that end are also missing. A contractor at the site cited a shortage of interblocks as the reason for the delay. With no exit via Usman Road, ambulances and residents are forced to use the Duraisamy subway. "The subway is congested even during normal hours. With additional diverted traffic, it's become worse," a resident of Rameshwaram Street said. "We're pushing the contractor to speed up," said Sudhakar, superintending engineer of GCC's bridges department. "We aim to complete it by Aug, subject to material availability." A local, S Manikandan, said, "With all the technical advancements, it's baffling how GCC has taken nearly 10 months to raise just nine pillars." The flyover, which spans major junctions South Usman Road-Burkit Road and Madley Road, South Usman Road-South West Boag Road and New Boag Road, and the CIT Nagar North Road T-junction is designed as a two-lane structure with a width of 8.4m. It includes a 140-metre up-ramp at CIT Nagar Main Road, a 120-metre up-ramp at Usman Road, and a 100-metre down-ramp. Once completed, it aims to allow motorists from Anna Salai to bypass Panagal Park junction within minutes. PMC explores possibility of utilising Jambhulwadi lake water for drinking purposes

Pune: The civic administration is considering tapping Jambhulwadi lake in Katraj as a drinking water source, for which PMC's water supply department is working on a detailed project report (DPR) to supply water from the lake to around 30,000 residents in the nearby areas. The lake, with a capacity of 60 lakh cubic metres, is fed by Katraj and nearby hills. Preliminary estimates suggest Rs 40-50 crore will be needed for infrastructure, including a water purification plant, storage tanks and pipelines. The project aims to supply water to areas like Ambegaon, Jambhulwadi and Kolewadi. PMC is also working on a sewage treatment plant proposal to prevent untreated water from entering the lake. Residents, however, said the administration was not serious about utilising the lake water for drinking purposes. "Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should conduct a detailed study to check if water can be used for drinking. If not, it can at least be utilised for other purposes. PMC recently cleared the lake of hyacinth. But with the release of untreated water, the hyacinth has started resurfacing in the lake," Amol Vatkar, a local resident, said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Don't Pay Full Price for 2025's Top Games! Water availability in the merged areas has continued to be inadequate despite PMC deploying water tankers. Many areas are spending huge sums of money on private tankers to meet their daily requirements. Sources from PMC said options were being explored to fetch water from small ponds in the Katraj hill areas, apart from Jambhulwadi lake. Parvati MLA Madhuri Misal had tables a proposal for utilising the water in the ponds a few months back. Misal then told the administration to explore possibilities on whether water can be lifted from the ponds in the Katraj hills. One such pond is located in the Bhilarewadi area.
