When Akshay Kumar Danced Garba in a Gujarati Film — A Forgotten 2000 Cameo in Chundadi Ni Laaj
Before
Akshay Kumar
became one of Bollywood's most bankable stars known for his action comedies and patriotic dramas, he made an unexpected appearance in a regional film that many fans today aren't even aware of.
Back in the year 2000,
Akshay
featured in a Gujarati film titled Chundadi Ni Laaj, making a brief but memorable cameo.
Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More
In the film, Akshay was seen participating in a lively garba and dandiya sequence — a vibrant, high-energy traditional dance synonymous with Gujarat's festive spirit. Dressed in traditional attire, the actor danced amidst a crowd of revellers and he was accompanied by
Namrata Shirodkar
in the song.. It was a rare sight to see the Khiladi of Bollywood shedding his action-hero image for a festive celebration on screen in a regional production.
Interestingly, Chundadi Ni Laaj wasn't just graced by Akshay's cameo. The film also featured brief appearances by
Johnny Lever
, making it quite the star-studded affair for a Gujarati film of that time.
While Akshay's appearance lasted only a few minutes, it remains a delightful piece of trivia for fans and film buffs alike. It also showcased his willingness, even back then, to step outside conventional boundaries and participate in regional cinema, albeit in a cameo role.
In fact this was now the first time Akshay did a regional film, back in 1993 Akshay was part of a film called Ashaant which had Kannada superstar Vishuvardhan in the lead. The film was first made in Hindi and when it was time to be remade in Kannada- Akshay played the same role in the Kannada version. The film bombed in Hindi but in the South the film was a major success.
Akshay is currently enjoying his long due success thanks to films like Sky Force, Kesari 2 and Housefull 5. He's now looking forward to Jolly LLB 3 with Arshad Warsi and Subhash Kapoor and to Priyadarshan's Bhoot Bangla. Also with all controversy settled and
Paresh Rawal
returning- he would be finally starting work on Hera Pheri 3.

Relief For Sonu Nigam As Bombay HC Stops Bihar Lawyer From Posting Under His Name On X
Last Updated: The Bombay High Court issued a restraining order against a Bihar lawyer impersonating singer Sonu Nigam on X, posting sensitive content and causing backlash against the singer. In a significant relief for singer Sonu Nigam, the Bombay High Court has issued a restraining order against a social media user accused of impersonating him on X (formerly Twitter). The user, a lawyer from Bihar, has been running an X handle under the name Sonu Nigam, which has been creating confusion among fans and in the media. Sonu Nigam, as per a Bar And Bench report, had moved the court alleging that his personality rights were being infringed upon by an X user named Sonu Nigam Singh, a criminal lawyer from Bihar. The user has been posting politically and communally sensitive content under the X handle 'Sonu Nigam'. The singer approached the court after facing backlash over posts actually made by Singh, which many wrongly attributed to him. Nigam's lawyer, Hiren Kamod, argued that Singh deliberately concealed his identity while posting on sensitive issues, misleading the public. Kamod presented 14 examples of communal posts made from the handle and pointed out that Singh had amassed over 90,000 followers, including public figures, by exploiting Nigam's name. One such post targeted BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, which stated, 'Don't dub Kannada movies in Hindi! Don't release Kannada movies pan-India! Do you have the guts to say this to Kannada film stars, Mr. @TejasviSurya, or are you just another language warrior?" Among these followers are notable public figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former minister Smriti Irani. Kamod pointed out that this misrepresentation has resulted in continuous online abuse aimed at the singer and his family. 'Because of Sonu Nigam Singh replying to the posts… Look at the hate Sonu Nigam is getting. Absolute chaos, My Lord. This is what the plaintiff is facing every day since August 2024," he told the court. It's worth noting that Sonu Nigam himself had quit X back in 2017. The National Award-winning singer is only on Instagram, where he posts about his work, daily life and opinions on life. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 1st Day 1st Show Movie Review: A cinema in a cinema, but lost in its own cut
There was a time when cinema arrived on reel wheels; today, it streams via satellites. The struggles persisted until a few months ago, when the hard disk had to be sent to Chennai to be uploaded. 1st Day 1st Show tries to tell that story — of ambition, desperation, dreams, and digital delivery — but ends up more scattered than stirring. Set against the backdrop of the Kannada film industry, this is a cinema-about-cinema tale. Director Rohith attempts to deliver a pan-Indian heartbeat wrapped in local truths. Jai, in the lead, embodies every filmmaker ever told they won't make it. Laila owns the stage, Ankita Gowda keeps the anchor grounded, and even Kunigal Srinivas Rao, as the faceless executive producer, reminds us that cinema may be a business, but it's also about soul. Director: Girish G Cast: Girish G, Jeevitha Vasishta, Aniruddha Sastry, Rohit Srinath, and B M Venkatesh

Sonu Nigam has finally found legal relief after months of online chaos caused by a case of digital impersonation. The Bombay High Court has stepped in to stop a Bihar-based lawyer from misusing the singer's identity on X (formerly Twitter), where the impersonator had been posting politically charged and communally sensitive content under Nigam's name. According to a report by Bar and Bench, Sonu Nigam approached the Bombay High Court alleging a violation of his personality rights by a Bihar-based criminal lawyer named Sonu Nigam Singh.
