Paul Gascoigne leaves hospital and 'doing well' at home as health issue becomes clear
Paul Gascoigne has returned home from hospital but is still 'very poorly', according to a close friend. Gascoigne was admitted to hospital on Friday after collapsing at home in Poole, Dorset.
The 58-year-old ex-footballer was discovered semi-conscious in his bedroom and was rushed to A&E. He was kept in hospital over the weekend and was understood to have been in a stable condition. Having initially been put in intensive care, he was recovering in an acute ward.
Thankfully Gazza is now doing better, with his management telling ITV that he went to hospital "after struggling with a throat condition he has had for a while" and is "back home and doing well".
'Paul voluntarily went into A&E on Friday after struggling with a throat condition he has had for a while,' Carly Saward at the MNT talent agency told the Associated Press too. 'He is already back home and doing well.'
Meanwhile, his friend and personal assistant Steve Foster – who found him on Friday – has been visiting Gazza every day and told The Sun: 'Paul is stable now but is still very poorly.
'But it shows how popular and loved he still is by fans everywhere. I can't walk down the street with him without him being stopped – it's crazy.'
Gazza has battled with alcoholism and addiction throughout his life, but has been in better shape recently. "He has told friends that he is fine and was going to give an update later today," a source close to the star told The Mirror earlier on Monday.
"He has been doing well recently so this was an unexpected setback.
'He had a full three months without alcohol over the summer while he was doing various speaking engagements and looked really well."
Gazza won 57 caps for England and played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton during a distinguished career. But his struggles off the pitch have sadly taken over his life in recent years.
Speaking on the High Performance podcast in March 2024, he said: 'I used to be a happy drunk, I ain't any more … I'm a sad drunk. I don't go out and drink, I drink indoors. If I want to make it a bad day, [all I need to do is] go down the pub. If I want it to be a good day, I get my flying rod out and go fishing.
'It's not the drinking, it's the afterwards. Looking at my phone after and seeing 30 messages or missed calls, I know I'm in trouble. But I've been all right. Last year wasn't brilliant, was off and on for a couple of months.'
Gascoigne added: 'I try not to get down because the world 's already down enough and when I'm really down, that's when I pick up a drink to cheer myself up. I don't think I let any managers down, or the players or the fans, you know. If there was anyone I let down, it was myself. But more the drinking side of it, when I finished playing.'

ITV will SACK 1 in 10 cast members from Corrie and Emmerdale in savage cost-cutting bloodbath
ITV chiefs are plotting a bloodbath on their two flagship soaps by axing one in ten cast members in the latest round of savage cost-cutting. Proposed plans also include slashing the number of scenes per episode for Coronation Street and Emmerdale — after the broadcaster announced it is cutting a further £15million from its total budget. 2 ITV's profits have slumped by 44 per cent to £99million for the first six months of this year. Now insiders have revealed executives are putting pressure on their top soaps to slash their spiralling budgets, cutting the soaps' cast lists by ten per cent. Coronation Street has 84 permanent cast members and Emmerdale has 70. Staffing on both soaps has risen rapidly in recent years, with many actors guaranteed a minimum number of episodes and episode fees per year. It is also suggested scenes per episode could be cut. Both soaps have about 20 scenes per show. And the number of cast used each episode could also be trimmed. A soap source said: 'It's brutal. We've known it was on the cards for a while, but they're really cranking it up now and it's across the soaps. They're looking to save millions and Corrie and Emmerdale are the obvious places. They're very expensive shows. 'Many who have been there for a long time are reliant on their income staying as it is. 'The amount of cast has spiralled out of control and focusing on dialogue, not action, could also save money.' Coronation Street and Emmerdale announce huge 'crossover' special episode in UK soap first Some older cast members have full-time contracts with a salary, but the majority are paid by the episode. It comes amid cuts across the ITV daytime schedule, with hundreds of staff axed from Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women. ITV said of the proposals: 'This is complete speculation.' 2

Tensions erupted last night as Shakira, 22, fumed at her fellow Islanders during a heated conversation. She said: 'You guys single people out and you make them feel bad about themselves. "And then when I called you out about it on the fire pit, you looked at me like I was crazy. Look at the way you made her feel.' Harry replied, 'We listened to you and heard you out,' but Toni pushed back: 'You do the same exact thing on a larger scale.' Dejon tried to calm things down, saying: 'We don't need to shout and scream and be troubled. Let's just have a conversation.' Conor also weighed in, adding: 'The better thing to do would be to say that to me if we're such good friends.' Harry later admitted fault, saying: 'Looking back, we should have done that, yeah, 100%.' Dejon agreed, adding: 'Of course we should have said that to you, man.' Shakira then addressed speculation about her feelings for Harry, making it clear that she had no intention of rekindling their relationship. 'Never at one point here in this whole experience has anyone come back me up after I've ended things with Harry,' she said. 'Have I ever said I want to get back with Harry?' Love Island fans praise Megan as she calls out Harry for his actions in brutal speech When Harry confirmed she hadn't, Shakira replied: 'Yeah, exactly. So everyone can shut the f*** up about it.' This year's edition of the ITV2 dating show has seen a long-running divide between the girls in the villa. For the most part it has mostly consisted of close pals Toni, Shakira and Yasmin against Meg, Helena, and Megan. Whilst the feud has been clear to see and has been hinted at many times in the villa, it was only during The Grafties that all six girls were forced to confront the issues head on. It came as Toni and Shakira collected the award for Best Double Act but fans were quick to slam this decision ahead of the series finale in just over a week's time. In the scenes, the group saw a video of Toni and Shakira expressing their disdain for Meg after a number of clashes with the star. They also took issue with Helena and for her close bond with Meg. As Meg pleaded that she was the same to the pair in front of their face, Toni insisted she was not as the divide was soon addressed. Yasmin quickly jumped in to insist there had been a "divide" from the start as many of the Islanders appeared to nod in agreement. Toni stated that the divide came from Meg, Helena and Dejon not being "warm and welcoming" and for going off on their own and leaving others out of their conversations - namely her, Shakira and Yasmin. It's not the first time fans have grumbled at show bosses by claiming the editing is "rigged" to portray Shakira and Toni negatively despite them being the ones who appear to have been isolated by Meg and Helena. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. Danny Jones' emotional chat with wife Georgia as he opens up on 'hurt and trauma'
McFly star and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2024 winner Danny Jones married his wife Georgia in 2014, and together they have son Cooper McFly star Danny Jones returns to screens tonight in a re-run of Michael McIntyre 's The Wheel, just days after his wife Georgia posted their first photo together in four months. This snap was shared after he had an alleged kiss with his former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! co-star Maura Higgins at The Brit Awards earlier this year. In the picture, Danny and Georgia are seen beaming, as they posed alongside 15 of her relatives for a family photo. The picture appears to quash any doubts about their 11-year marriage, as they continue to remain together. Just weeks prior to the controversy, the 39-year-old musician gave his most candid interview to date, on the High Performance podcast. In the lengthy discussion, he opened up about his battles with anxiety and his decision to seek professional help, after his father Alan left during his teenage years. The King of the Jungle met his first therapist at the age of 18, around the time McFly were first making waves in the music industry. Having realised the positive impact therapy had on his mental health, he has pursued his path to healing ever since. Quizzed about his wife's reaction to his personal struggles, he admitted she had her reservations at first, but these changed once he explained his need for it. "It's just little steps over the years that you do and I think it's the same with healing and the same with dealing. I was obviously hurt by something and traumatised and needed rebalancing, or reprogramming should I say," he shared. "You know, it's great talking to friends, it's great talking to your loved ones, because my wife didn't understand why I had to go at first. "She's like, 'Why don't you talk to me? Why can't I help you?' But I needed that one professional, actually many professionals over my time, just to reprogram me and podcasts helped me massively." Danny said he found particular solace in listening to Mel Robbins, famed for her TEDx talk How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over, and business owners who shared his sentiments. "I just related to these people over the years of listening to podcasts and I found it so helpful," he revealed. "That's when I went to my wife and I was like, 'I think I need to go back to therapy', because I had that Ashley guy (one of his therapists) when I was 18, but then I feel like I needed it again. "And I felt like how many times can my wife hear me talk about this? And I didn't want it to get too much for her." While he is now in an improved mental and emotional state thanks to therapy, Danny said he still occasionally grapples with understanding his feelings. Reflecting on his stint in last year's I'm A Me Out Of Here!, he added: "There's definitely things that I've learned in the jungle, that I need to just talk about, [such as] understanding myself, and understanding my emotions. I still don't do that, because I think understanding my emotions will help me to communicate better. I just need to work on that." Michael McIntyre's The Wheel airs tonight at 7.05pm on BBC One.
