Tripura implementing 3 externally aided projects for forest protection: Minister Animesh Debbarma
The Tripura government is implementing three externally aided projects to ensure the protection of forests and the livelihood of forest dwellers, state Forest and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma said on Tuesday. The first project was funded by the Government of Japan via Japan International Cooperation Agency, the second by the Federal Republic of Germany through the bank KfW, and the third was a World Bank-funded Rs 1,764.94 crore project, he added. 'The projects aimed to generate employment for youths and women through promotion of forest-based entrepreneurship,' Debbarma said, inaugurating the 76th state-level Vanmahotsava at the Behalabari School playground in Khowai district. Those who stay in hilly areas take only some resources from the forest, he said, adding that it was a section of traders who destroy forests and their resources for illegal trade. Referring to the latest Forest Survey of India (FSI), Debbarma said that forest areas in the state have reduced. He also urged people to plant at least one tree in the name of their parents, sister or any close relative, as part of the nationwide plantation campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' 2.0, to increase the forest areas in the state. Debbarma further said that he has requested Chief Minister Manik Saha to deploy a minimum of 400 Tripura State Rifles personnel to ensure the protection of forest resources. On July 5 last year, Saha had conducted a mass plantation drive across the state under the mission of '5 lakh saplings in 5 minutes' to hike the forest cover. Earlier, the forest department had distributed lakhs of saplings among people, including students, clubs, state and central security forces, etc.

Chennai artisans craft twin pure-gold swings worth Rs 12 crore for Ram Lalla's Shravana ritual
LUCKNOW: In a dazzling new addition to the opulent offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, two intricately designed 24-carat gold jhoolas (swings), crafted by Chennai-based artisans, will soon be used to ceremonially seat Ram Lalla during the auspicious month of Shravana beginning July 11. Each swing weighs approximately 5.5 kg and together they are valued at an estimated Rs 12 crore. The twin jhoolas, created with exquisite precision and devotion, are among the most ritually significant artefacts added to the temple's already lavish collection. The latest addition to the glittering trove of donations enhances the temple's grandeur even further. Notably, the sanctum sanctorum is adorned with 42 gold-coated doors, a majestic throne featuring Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, his four brothers and Lord Hanuman; and several other sacred items including crowns, bows, arrows, chhatras and the kalash atop the temple's spire, all of which have captured public and media attention since the consecration. According to sources from the temple trust, the jhoolas have been designed in consonance with traditional Vaishnavite aesthetics, featuring lotus-petal-shaped borders, Shankh and Chakra motifs, and delicate floral filigree.

Vande Bharat incident: Railways to deploy safety measures along tracks
1 2 3 4 5 Patna: The recent tragic dead of a local resident after being hit by semi-high-speed Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express on Nawada-Kiul route under Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) has once again brought attention to the urgent need for safety measures along railway tracks in Bihar. The 50-year-old man died in an attempt to save his two buffaloes that had strayed onto the tracks on Monday. This unfortunate incident has intensified demands from local residents, activists and public representatives to take preventive steps, particularly in rural and vulnerable areas where railway tracks pass through open fields or densely populated villages. "Introducing modern trains like Vande Bharat is a step forward towards connectivity, but safety must move forward too. Barricading vulnerable sections near villages and grazing areas is critical, especially where people and livestock regularly cross tracks," a social activist of Danapur, Pradeep Priyadarshi, said, adding that in states like Bihar, encroachments and unauthorised crossings are common. Talking to this newspaper on Wednesday, Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary said that the Railway Board had sanctioned a proposal to erect fences along DDU-Patna-Jhajha and Patna-Gaya routes of the division. The railways would build hard concrete boundary walls through thickly inhabited areas, while regular metallic crash barrier-type fencing would be erected in other stretches, he said. However, fencing all along railway tracks is a prerequisite requirement for high-speed trains running at 160km per hour. The board has sanctioned Rs 600 crore in the current budget for this work, which includes the construction of road over bridges and road under bridges at all vulnerable places in the division, the DRM said. The railways have started taking precautionary steps along vulnerable places by sealing them to prevent stray animals from coming on tracks, as well as checking trespassing in railway areas through which semi-high-speed trains pass daily, said Sonepur DRM Vivek Bhushan Sood.
